  1. Totally off topic... Still umpiring Hugh?? Gave me a laugh.
  2. Again you guys are missing the point by taking an elitist attitude as it pertains only to your own very well informed opinion on the topic of CM. If you don't understand the idea of baiting many and varied hooks to catch more fish, no point wasting anymore time on the point. As to the thinly veiled insults JRMC1879 go **** yourself. -F
  3. I started with BF when they were BTS playing Actung Spitfire and Over the Reich. I still have and very occasionally play them. Put much more time into CM titles though, been installed on every system I've owned since release. I have in fact managed to keep the exact same install/setup for each game from PC to PC over the years (touch wood that continues) so I still have some ancient screens of things like the 232 clown car (or was it 223?? I can't remember).
  4. The review score on a game's home page on Steam comes straight from Metacritic. So whether you like it or not it is a tool used by a lot of people to judge a product. The sites popularity is indicative of the influence what's written there has. Whether that's the way it should be or whether people should put stock in the comments posted there etc is moot. It's the way it currently is and if you care about CM it would be good to get on there and post it's praises. IIRC BF has already said they wouldn't do Steam anyway. -F
  5. And this is basically how I use it too. See the proportion of good to poor reviews and what people's complaints are and whether they are consistent across various sites. It is fairly simple to spot genuine vs axe grinding reviews. -F
  6. When I come across a game I know nothing about Metacritic is one of the first places I check. Burying your head in the sand thinking it's irrelevant I think is doing CM and BF a disservice. No matter how niche a game CM is BF is a business and needs to sell units. Plus expanding the player base is not a bad thing IMO. -F
  7. Someone will be along with more details but in essence there's a great deal of things that go into working out how good one tank performs compared to another. The equipment, crew quality, condition of the crew etc. When all is said and done though it's the consensus of most players that the other guy's tanks seem to out perform your own with annoying regularity -F
  8. Not done it for a while but I try and wait right up until the infantry start their attack before bringing out HTs to support them or even just after. As seems apparent using them on their own draws lots of return fire which is often fatal. Maybe gunners and TC's get taken out too easily, hard to really say to be honest with only anecdotal evidence. -F
  9. Paraphrasing... Steve said parachuting dogs in next patch. 'Bout time I say. -F
  10. The boys have to kill one at least one of Bil's hulking beasts. Come on lads make Lieutenant Colonel Blacker (ahem, and Major Jefferis) proud! -F
  11. Great stuff, I have Die Deutschen Luftwaffe series as well on VHS so nice to grab these too. Thanks
  12. If you do mean jagged edged shadows I got rid them in my setup by enabling V-Sync.... Admittedly that's in CM2.01, not MG with the new shaders etc, but maybe worth a try? Good luck -F
  13. 7 episodes of the Die Deutschen Panzer series are available at this guy's channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRewB1fmpr8&list=PL3483332C348F7FB0 A great deal of excellent footage with a ~50 minute episode devoted to each of the major marks of panzer, one on stugs, another on SPG's, one on armoured cars and half tracks. The only one not there is the episode on light tanks. I have these on VHS but haven't gotten around to getting them converted to something digital. Highly recommended. -F
  14. Heresy!! But more seriously, I too would like the pop up info a la in CM1. -F
  15. Get 7zip. It's small, efficient and handles just about all file compression formats. http://www.7-zip.org/ -F
  16. Typo on page 34 in the PzIII description? It says "Available only in small numbers, the the Panzer III was an excellent tank for its, easily able to best Polish and most French tanks." -F
  17. Very nice indeed. Are you using a tree, ground cover and bocage mod? If so which one? Thanks
  18. VASSAL is indeed free as are the hundreds of games (check the modules page) that have been made for it. You just need the rules to play them. www.vassalengine.org -F
  19. I can't remember... Does CM2 have the warning about hull MG LOS being blocked like was in CM1? Why not have a similar thing for the main gun? Seeing as it's probably far more important to the survival of the crew. Or does this exist already? I can't remember. Edit - so target command checks LOS from the bow MG, the main gun and the TC and lets you know if any of them can't see. -F
