  1. My first thought was...."AAAAAH...son ofaa...." Because I left my fast download connection mere minutes before the game was released... sooo...your welcome.
  2. I'm not getting my hopes up. That gets old. I'm betting on later this week or early next week. And if it is sooner, I will be pleasantly surprised!
  3. That's something BFC decided not to implement. Because it was really not used during battle. And with that in mind why use coding resources towards it? If you do a search there is a discussion about it around here somewhere. I'm on my iPhone at the moment or I'd search it myself.
  4. Well...****. I think I am going to enjoy some humble pie tonight. I got my compass directions confused. I installed MB's mods which changed the compass. I started "Closing the Gap" where I thought I noticed the problem. But it turns out I was reading the compass 180 degrees backwards this whole time. It didn't even occur to me. Looks I need a compass with a little airplane in it.
  5. Sorry...almost forgot... Fix or do somefink! Blackcat, I always thought it was a coding thing and not specific to the scenario.
  6. A show stopper, yes I know. But the wind direction in the conditions button upsets my sensibilities as a professional helicopter pilot. In CMSF (and now CMBN) if I wanted to lay smoke down I would always look at dust clouds or a smoking AFV to get an idea of the wind direction. But there have been several occasions in the past when there were neither and I had to rely on the conditions briefing to plan on where to place my smoke. And it has bitten me in the butt when I did. The smoke would blow in the wrong direction because I was anticipating the smoke to blow from NW to SE based on the conditions saying the wind was medium NW. Well it turns out that NW means the wind is blowing FROM the SE to the NW. As a pilot, when I check the weather before I fly, one of the most important aspects of the weather I need to check is the wind speed and direction. The wind direction is always given in terms the direction the wind is COMING FROM. That way I know which way direction to take off into, land into, which way to point while hovering for a stable hover or in the case of an emergency, which way to point my nose to make an emergency landing. It is very important to have the wind at your face. I would imagine it would be just as important for a FOO who is calling in air support to know this which would allow him to speak the same language as the pilot in the air. Was it SOP to indicate wind direction back in the day as indicated in the game?
  7. Oh yes! It works! Unpack them in your "data" folder. Although, your suppose to create a "z" file in the "data" file to put them in. But I forgot to do that. I think it works either way.
  8. And it begins. Frankly I'm happier than a pig in sh*t that I have the demo.
  9. CMBN feels so much more polished over CMSF. I am enjoying it very much. It's the little things. And there are ALOT of little things. One thing that I am appreciating very much are the tree settings. Having the tree tops in the foreground of your view disappear while the background trees stay put is brilliant! Good work guys!
  10. Excellent AAR so far. Thanks! That is the luckiest M10 ever! Your plan pretty much followed mine. Except I did not go up the middle until later. I held my guys back until the right side was pretty much secure (with the help of a Panther and two PSW's) Hug those tree lines with your armor! It seemed to help me tremendously as I moved my armor up on the ridge line I would have them hug the tree line and get as deep as possible in the woods. Panthers, Marders and PSWs alike. Played Elite. Totaly Victory with a couple of minutes to spare. Although I lost all of my PSWs and one Panther. Got a little zealous towards the end.
  11. That's just it. The radio operator's body and the assistant's body were still there. LT gave no buddy aid. The bodies will disappear after buddy aid is given. The point is artillery that is on the (scenario) map vs artillery and air support that is off map. US Platoon HQs apparently have access to the 60mm mortars as well as other mortars that are on the battlefield in the scenario. All other support assets that are not deployed on the map (105, 8inch, Naval artillery, air support) requires a Forward Observer to call in. And even in the FO's case they can be fragile. And it seems the case is the same for German Platoon HQs. Anything that is not on map is denied to them. I think even 105's in the form of Priests can be on map arty too.
  12. Yea, after I started this thread I realized I am still thinking in terms of CMSF. Not EVERYONE with a radio can call in art and air support.
  13. Loving CMBN so far....LOVING IT. Anywho. I was playing the tutorial. My first platoon HQ gets hit hard by mortars. The Lt is the only survivor. He still has the radio. No buddy aid. Nothing. I recall in the preview "A Norman Conquest: A Combat Mission AAR" Tim Stone mentioned that one of his FO team was partially taken out of action and could not call in any arty support. My Plt HQ with only the LT and minus the radio operator and assistant could call in on map mortars. Is this only limited to on map mortars? Would he have been unable to call in air support and off map mortars and howitzers/naval support as well?
  14. What is there to dig? It seems you might have a basic understanding of C2 (C2 = Command and Control) in CMSF. In CMSF everyone on the NATO side has radios, even down to the squad. Many have GPS and Blue Force tracker. The dissemination of information (where is the enemy? Good guys?) was very fast and accurate compared to WW2. In CMBN pretty much only the HQ units have radios...big bulky ones...which are not the most reliable. If any HQ unit dies, the C2 is severely degraded (as can be morale). The C2 in WW2 is a lot of yelling and hand signals. Visual contact must be maintained to Platoon HQ's for squads to maintain cohesiveness.
  15. Yes. Out of LOS. you cannot see what your selected unit cannot see.
  16. "Medics" are a good way to retrieve ammo and certain weapons such as a hand held AT weapon or MGs. Also at the end of each scenario any "wounded" soldier (a soldier with a base that is a red cross and not a brown skull and cross bones {dead}) has a 25% chance of being dead. So it gives you an ethical dilemma of sorts too. "Do I save this guy or not and move on with the attack?"
  17. I would like to point out that the demo was released IMMEDIATELY after I went to bed...soooo...YOUR WELCOME!
