  1. Arrived too late for the timeframe, did it not?
  2. Yeah, I had noticed it was Swedish. Though to understand its meaning it required Google translate, which is not my favourite method of following a thread.
  3. Spreek jij ook Nederlands? Nee? Doe dan even Engels lullen!
  4. Only after a mission. In campaigns, kill stats are given for that battle as well as a campaign total.
  5. Yeah, I figured Rock Paper Shotgun would have one out by now, unless I missed it.
  6. I'd be highly surprised if he actually fired an explosive round. Undoubtedly rigged the mannequin with his favourite explosive: Tannerite
  7. I'm siding with LemoN on this. Going over the penetration numbers of one tank and checking it against the armour protection of the intended target made me more of a participant then merely ordering the tank and hoping for the best. That whole thing made me engage more with what I am doing. You could have some clever system calculating yes/no/maybe and I still wouldn't like it as much as going over the CMx1 data. Even if it wasn't wholly accurate, I'd get a ballpark sense of what to expect. If I shoot at 90mm target with a 92mm penetrating gun I at least knew that I have to wait for a perfect shot. The new method tells me next to nothing. CMx1 gave me an adequate ballpark to work with. With CMx2 I cannot tell what sport is being played! And it was a great way to learn stuff, seeing the numbers right there gave you a better sense of whom could do what. I wouldn't have liked CMBB at all if it didn't give me such an education of how the armour of both sides stacked up throughout the war. Now, the magic shooting-through-armour-faeries do their work in secret, and I will never learn all the cool things I used to.

  9. There is of course the area fire as performed by the TacAI after a sighted unit drops out of view. It will fire a few shots into the last known position for good measure.
  10. I do agree. For the role they fill the MG42 HMG is rather conservatively fired. And an even worse offender is the water cooled M1917.
  11. Didn't Ambrose in BoB take a potshot at SLA Marshall for inventing his version of the Brecourt Manor engagement without having heard Winters or anyone else's account? Cheeky given his own practises.
  12. Just to clarify, what you mentioned is simulated with great precision, but it is no longer shown to us in great detail. No longer do we get exact numbers to crunch to match gun to armour. And a cause of much wailing and gnashing of teeth it is.
  13. Actually, that looks rather epic. Free form, objective based group Judo. It makes all other sports look like silly ritualistic stuff. *goes off to look for local Bo Taoshi club*
  14. Well, all previous games indicate a trend towards this being the case. Say, is this the mission from the training campaign? I can't recall, did the 81s fire all their own rounds or were they getting some from ammo bearers? Because if something made the barrage shift after 15 rounds it might be because of a switch in ammo suppliers that might be foking things up. I would expect a strike in progress to continue at the target location until corrected. Something changed after 15 rounds. Or possibly because a bug with on map mortars not fully coping with the pre-planned barrage thing. It is still firing because that was what it was told but can't quite figure the pre-planned aspect of it, and only after the duration it took o fire 15 rounds does the strike come through the regular process as if it was called in through through an FO and thus gets on target? Dunno, just blurting out possibilities.
  15. Actually, the white flag only appears when their surrender is "accepted" by nearby units and the surrendered soldiers disappear off the map. Before that they can spend a few minutes standing in a field with their hands up waiting for this to happen. 99% sure this is what you saw. I'm still not entirely sure what exactly causes the surrender to be accepted. Generally having units overrun the surrendered troops will cause it to happen nearly immediately, but they'll do it after a while if they are overlooked by units from a modest distance. Cool thing is that you'll hear troops shout out a relevant order to troops whose white flag is about to appear.
  16. This is not a thread praising the TCs cupola, then?
  17. Oh god, not this debate AGAIN. Stop pretending that bringing up issues is treated as a crime here, punishable by written abuse. It is not. I recall c3k brought up quite a few issues in the past. He states clearly and calmly what he is seeing, what is wrong with what he is seeing, and where possible how it can be improved. And I would like to think this community hasn't abused him (much) for his troubles. But people who make unhelpful posts... well, they get subjected to unhelpful posts in reply. That seems not too unjust. This community is wonderfully self correcting that way. Don't like it? I fear that is just too damn tough, because it is a key factor in this forum remaining worth reading up upon. Try just about every other games related forum and you will discover they are generally populated by a bunch of hooting baboons that makes us look good, I assure you.
  18. Yeah, they seem a bit shy using them against armour. You'd think it would be the first thing lobbed when armour blunders that close.
  19. Was recently a thread here that mentioned the Wehrmacht being very keen not to be mistaken for SS so they stuck with their traditional garb. That and the logistical headache of re-kitting everyone, no doubt.
  20. Yeah, I had trouble getting LOS to the relevant parts of the hill from that position. Some places did, some did not. That area doesn't give as good a view as it first seemed. Just position your MG and HQ until you find a spot that works for you. Use the MkI Eyeball to get some sense of the best places. It does not have to be exactly at or even remotely near the place the scenario suggests. For mortars it is less of an issue unless you want to DF with it.
  21. Roads are usually broad enough to let two vehicles drive side by side. So I send the first vehicle down one side, the next one goes starts to the other side a little later and so on. If they run in to some kind of trouble trouble they won't get in the way of the next vehicle driving up Even in that zig zag example above you could probably get away with that staggered approach, though the tolerance for error would undoubtedly be less. But all in all it is generally unwise to send larger formations down the same road. Ten vehicles down such a winding road in one go is pretty much asking for trouble. Avoid it if you can.
  22. I'm not too informed on the exact Ins and Outs of calling in arty, but I think I can claim with certainty that nothing is ever guaranteed. Even if your spotters view is not interrupted by smoke, dust or death the arty strike might still go wild. Take the 100m as a rule of thumb for safety. Get inside that and friendly fire is quite likely to happen. Generally yeah, if a first round goes way, waaay off target, it is time to re-adjust or cancel manually. Dunno if it might still correct, but my experience has been that it will not. Spotting rounds continue until they fall on target or the spotter is (erroneously) happy with where they fall. This can take an unspecified number of shots I think, but generally doesn't exceed three shots.
