Bocage + pathfinding = rage
Elmar Bijlsma replied to LemoN's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
See what I mean? Another poster also made sweeping statements labelling others as fanbois. And they are the ones that are arguing for a gentle conversational tone? Please... -
Bocage + pathfinding = rage
Elmar Bijlsma replied to LemoN's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The funny thing is indeed that the people most annoyed by Steve's blunt approach are those that themselves are very blunt. "Do as I say, don't do as I do", huh? Nope, I like Steves style, in general. He can get a bit carried away at times, but that is more then made up for by not being some oily PR bull**** spouting twat. Try dealing with the community manager of The Creative Assembly or the PR lady at 2K games with their slick PR ways and not get an urge to invent an internet punching device. As for the actual topic. I just do not recognise the problem nor has a good case been made. I see nothing that backs up the sweeping conclusions reached by poster. -

Modest Interface Requests: "Done" Button
Elmar Bijlsma replied to Holman's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Along those same lines, I'd be grateful if the button that ends playback and the one that ends the orders phase were not one and the same. Accidental double clicks, absent minded errors etc have made me miss many a turn. Just relocate one of them elsewhere so there is no confusion. I'd prefer that above confirmation. Constant Yes/No clicking would end up getting on my tits too. -
Quick Battle - Purchasing ??
Elmar Bijlsma replied to Johnny Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Frankly the purchase screen is godawful unwieldy. And I would have complained about it earlier had its use not eventually resulted in some fantastically fun battles. -
Haha, the clearest example I have ever seen of a statement only meant to be "believed" by a willing mind. Such as jurors and judges who have to deal with the douchebag's case later. I have no problem with any of it. Kids, do not go sticking knifes in people or Marines! *edit* Awww, suspecting it to be too good to be true, found out that indeed it was. http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/stabbedmarine.asp

Yes you can. They are a sub group under Army, as they should be. *edit* Or that.

Infantry mounting tanks
Elmar Bijlsma replied to goodwood's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
There was a decent thread about this only today but the short of it is that it happened so rarely in the combat environment that CM models that it was not worth prioritizing it as a feature. Come the East Front, this will change. -
Realtime or WEGO or both?
Elmar Bijlsma replied to Holman's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I've been largely playing CMSF in RT, but with the CMBN demo I find myself preferring TB once again. So much going on that even with frequent pauses it easy to forget or overlook units. And when that happens even if they don't get promptly mortared while staying in place too long, in the closeness of bocage situations can quickly turn bad. So I'm back to the slightly more thoughtful and considered Turn Based mode. -
Nah, the current implementation of wounded and buddy aid is about as detailed as BFC want to make it. Good call imho. Few people are buying wargames for the battlefield triage aspect. The reaction time is dependant on what else is going on. If there is a massive firefight going in the vicinity the wounded are out of luck till things calm down. I do agree that the radius seems a little tight. Especially if a guy gets wounded at the corner of 4 action spot, it takes a while to get the team coming to his aid to the right spot to trigger buddy aid. It probably is that way to prevent helpful troops wandering away from where you left them and in to lanes of fire.

Trees+wind= massive FPS drop
Elmar Bijlsma replied to ParaBellum's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Doubt it is worth it for BFC. That package only solves the display of the trees, I think? They would still need to implement all the cover, concealment and other interaction issues that trees need to function properly. -
Trees+wind= massive FPS drop
Elmar Bijlsma replied to ParaBellum's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yes, FRAPs footprint is small, but some games do show a puzzling slowdown even when it FRAPS is just idling in the background for FPS measurement. -
Trees+wind= massive FPS drop
Elmar Bijlsma replied to ParaBellum's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
A great example of ignorance being bliss. You were happy with the graphics until you got FRAPs. It is why I never bother with it. Either I am satisfied with the graphics or the framerate is driving me bananas but either way a measured framerate is irrelevant to my enjoyment. This came up during the beta testing of CMSF too. The beta builds measure fps too and there was a suggestion that it would be cool to include that for the released version too. Cynical me immediately warned that people who were quite happy playing with 20 fps would have a freak out learning they were getting 20 fps. btw FRAPs has been known to slow down some games a fair bit. -
BFC have indicated in the past that they would like to have it in, but that the technical difficulties mean it is either some compromise solution or will take significant resources to do well. Hard to say what/when. BFC has been known to surprise us all. But I would not hold my breath.

Alt-T & Alt-S doesn't work
Elmar Bijlsma replied to Ted's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Well, that is odd. You'd think they would all work, or not. Have you tried both left and right ALT? Sorry, that is about the best I could think off. -
Oops, mean to say "ragging". Corrected. Really? You thought my post was raging? Sorry, but with the best will in the world I can't make that of it. Seems to me the people so big on being free to offer criticism and mature conversation are less keen having that same standard applied to them.

Great. Take the easy way out and boil it down to a fanboi issue. I came out and said you guys had a point, for goodness sake! I just mocked the overblown drama. The overblown ragging on PBEM, especially on account of it is not being TCP, is easily mockable. So I mocked it.
-
Mwahahahaha. Hyperbole much? Look, it would be great if TCP turn based makes it back in, but don't hysterical on us. Sure, PBEM may be less then ideal for some of you. But it is not the work of the devil. Chill out, just a little?

Can the music be stopped?
Elmar Bijlsma replied to ichadwick's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
It should be possible to mod that loading music to something else, including a blank sound file. If you thought this music was irritating, try the CMSF loading theme, duly replaced with Generation Kill radio traffic. -
Oh I agree, it is a bit unwieldy. Though to be fair, once you have it set as you want you aren't likely to ever touch it again. In theory. In practise I found out today that my CMSF hotkeys.txt has mysteriously disappeared. I was looking to use it a a basis for my CMBN hotkeys.txt but it is gone and I sure didn't move it. Don't relish fiddling around with it again.

1,2,4 are indeed much requested feature. The first two are on BFC's to-Do list. But it is a long list. 4 is more doubtful if we ever see it again. AFAIK apparently a lot of work for a bit of UI BFC thinks we don't really need. 3) They disappear over time if I recall, but mostly it will be because that unit was seen elsewhere.
