If I may; re-test your results in 1.11. As mentioned in the release notes things have been tweaked that will affect them.

I've had some luck with moving games between versions - give it a go on 1.11.

After testing this for a while now it really feels like CM1 did to me. I know the arguments and maybe it's my preconceptions but it just feels more solid. Infantry moves, tanks fire, arty falls - all rock solid framerate and LOD. Being able to go forward and backwards in the first turn makes it feel like it's under your control again. You're not a passenger as it plays out any more. This coupled with all the incremental changes makes the game really come alive. Some of the changes to the AI seem minor but really are revolutionary. Having soldiers bug out brings back one of the moments in CM1 that would make you grin, as your enemy buckled and you poured on the hurt. It's like when you hear a song that you didn't know was in your head and part of you relaxes. It's addictive.

There's more to this than meets the eye. Or not.

No because the patch - believe it or not - is tested before it's released so stage two shouldn't (not won't, or will never) happen. TBH arguing this isn't my job - I'm an insignificant volunteer who's just trying to add something to the community. I'm just trying to explain what I understand of BFCs thinking. I tried to do it lighthearted. Maybe I shouldn't have tried at all.

Paper Tiger - while I'm sure you can see that I'm not implying that you would go through all those stages or disparaging your input I'm also sure you can see that is exactly what would happen. The game lives or dies by the scenarios and scenario creators - that's for sure.
