  1. Mrs Means makes her own granola. Lovely stuff. Sets me right up for my bacon butties.
  2. I dunno. There's definitely some aspect of the combined arms game that would win CM1 being replaced by uber infantry in CM2. Even Red infantry are deadly when you compare to CM1. I also think - try and stay awake Elmar - that not being able to shift-C your units size so you can see them from across the map and so gain a tactical gestalt about everything that is happening is the main thing missing. It's too hard to gain an overall understanding. You have to work very hard to get the information about whether you're playing the game well and modern weapons are too deadly to allow for any wriggle room so you end up feeling out of control - not really committed to the game as you would in CM1. But then, I've ridden this hobby horse so long I've got saddle sores.
  3. You can increase to "Best", shift ] on my keys, and it will render out further. Not totally though.
  4. Priceless comment from that forum "Compared to the Ant 12 and 24s we see in Africa that was an F18... mostly they rely on the curvature of the earth to gain altitude."
  5. I looked to be in a mountainous region so it's possible it was at altitude and the thin air affected it. If they were landing closer to sea level then I'd imagine they'd be OK. Especially as the landing end of the runway they'd be going slower and they do have some off-runway ability. My Mrs is a trolley dolly and she was in an aircraft that had a bird strike a couple of weeks ago. They were two seconds from takeoff when 3 partridges tried to nest in the left engine. They had to slam to a stop and nearly left the end of the runway with >160 people on board. Scary.
  6. I remember having gridded terrain for SF but I've lost it somewhere. Anyone know where I can get it? Obviously I've checked the repository.
  7. You seem to know a lot about this Michael. ...maybe too much.
  8. They look like outliers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdgbeobB3Vk Looks nice but you defo need that head mounted viewing system.
  9. Welcome MonwarH. Always nice to hear another perpective
  10. There's other things there not just the VDM. I've used it in the past with no issues. You'd think so wouldn't you? I think in the power options set the "turn off hard-disks" for 2 mins or sumfink it'll stop it. Bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut though.
  11. In Window 7 you press Windows P and select "extend". For XP use Virtual Desktop Manager. The hard-drive is usually being de-fragged as it does that when idle.
  12. I'm on Windows 7 64bit and it's brilliant. Fast, slick, zero driver problems, good performance boost from 32bit etc. CM:SF runs brilliantly, CM:AK still runs - it's been well worth it so far.
  13. I like to play games. And Windows 7 rocks.
  14. Ah yes, who could forget Baudelaire's "The flower of Bush."? Dirty bugger.
  15. From what I understand it’s not so much the lighting but the effect this has on units and FOW. For example, if a unit is walking past a burning tank they get lit up. How does this affect them being spotted by opposing units – can they now be seen from across the map? If so, should the AI plan to move around the illumination like a human player would? It’s the law of unintended consequences again.
