Entertainment Value.

Recommended Posts

I have kind of a system I use to determine if something is an "Entertainment value" to me.Kind of a little formula I use to see if things are worth my hard earned dollar. This game has got to be one of the top rated E Value items I have come across in years. My system is as follows. The average two hour movie, the most widely used entertainment source, therefor, the best to use for my system cost about 20 dollars US per person.

Ten to twelve for tickets, then the Popcorn and Soda and 20 dollars is a Conservative figure.probably more like 25,but I use 20 as it is a good round number. So,my EV is 10 dollars per hour.

This game cost me 70 dollars for the Steel box pre order. That includes the shipping of course. So,when purchasing any PC game,I need to get a minimum of Seven hours play out of it.Using the above formula,I have to say that this game is well worth the price.Generally speaking, most PC games are one of the best bargains in entertainment.

There have been a few I have bought and been so bored in the first ten minutes that I lost money on my EV but This game is probably the best I have ever come across.

The game has tons of content at launch, and I know I can count on this community to furnish many more hours of fun in the future, not to mention the quick battles and map editing tools.

All in all I wanted to say "Thank you BFC for giving me wayyyyyyy more then my moneys worth".I give this game three thumbs up.Yes,I said three thumbs up,not two,but three.I could have three thumbs,it is possible.None of you will ever know how many thumbs I have.:D

Damn glad your enjoying the game Finalcut...so am I...just left a battlefield littered with dead, dying and surendered....boy it was fun....it was one of those games whre everything went my way...yeah it was the first mission in the second tutorial campaign but I had loads of fun..my CMSF experience came into play and I only lost 11 men and 1 M8....Germans threw in the towel with 20mins to go...had a squad and one Sherman that deserve medals...getting 42 soldiers and 1 pak between them...my assaults with target fire order on bocage emplacements went like a dream...though enough supresive fire had already been pumped in...nothing like seeing a Sherman unbottoned firing that .50 and gun into bocage...wher enemy had been sighted....

Great fun...all i can say finalcut is your gift won't be wasted on my end either...

How else can you be sure you're having fun? :) But seriously the numbers don't matter. What IMO the OP has a point about is that some things can be cheaper but overall provide less value, and even if CMx2 was $200 bucks but you ended up playing and enjoying it for 5 years (hell there are CMx1 players who are STILL playing, just look at the boards for CMx2 :)), then you've more than gotten your money's worth.

you can get that much entertainment from the Demo...

You also need to factor in:

- you'll spend a lot of time playing it so it will save you money on other entertainment.

- if you spend enough time playing it will cost you much more than the $70 when you end up homeless and begging people for someplace to plug in your laptop and get a bit of power and wifi to play online.

so the calculation is potentially more complicated...

You need to add a few more things to your formula

a) Disposable income - % of and sacrifice to get it. = the feeling of guilt and what could have been after getting a game.

B) Like a movie can you enjoy it socially? Will my friends be getting it thus allowing some fun conversations and comparison = game worth more $

c) Moddability and community - this is very important to the "fun" factor for me.

d) Learning - does the game teach anything new? This adds significantly to fun factor for me. Detail and realism that can be realised over years of gameplay. A good game offers this...

e) Support - a buggy game is no fun at all

I would compare games less to movies and more to books, bicycles, soccer balls, remote control aircraft and other such hobby costs. 7hrs is not what I expect from a game. I expect much much more. I expect my game to last for years and choose accordingly.

Some books give me joy for decades for $20. The author spends years researching them and they only sell slowly off the shelf being specialised reference in my case a lot of the time.

I am actually really really hoping that Battlefront make $$$$ out of this game. Its a real Gem and meets almost all of my categories except for "enjoying it socially". A lot of my friends would have purchased simply for me to carry them along and teach them in coop games.

Are gamers the only people that study the $ per EV formula?

I have used this for years with PC and XBOX games. The wife knows where I am and what I am doing (whether she approves or not) and I am getting endless hours of entertainment per dollar.

That Exercise Bike makes a good clothesline now, but when I think about the cash we spent on it and the actual use it got, it was not a good investment.

Televisions, computers, phones, food, beer - these are things we use regularly. I don't mind spending money on them.

Combat Mission was a good investment and will only improve over the coming months with user mods and BFC patches.

Thanks guys! Obviously we agree that what we offer has an excellent return on investment (so to speak). The great thing, for everybody, is that we're able to take your money and plow it back into the game engine. Which means not only are you getting a great game for a reasonable price, but you're ensuring that you will have more great games to choose from as time goes on. Better still, each game we release has all the improvements of the ones that came before it (when applicable, of course), so your return on investment is both immediate and compounding over time.

Try to get that sort of return in the stock market :D

For many (most?) players, the ROI in entertainment value will be astounding on this thing--pennies to the hour (or a even a fraction of that as time goes on).

I'm a small business owner myself and nothing pleases me more than supporting another small company that produces such a great product with such incredible value.

Thanks, guys!
