Michael Dorosh
Just a few weeks after a LAV III rolled in Wainwright and killed its driver from the Royal 22e Regiment, a LAV turned over today in Afghanistan and killed a corporal from the 2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment. It would appear that the LAV may be susceptible to these - especially in adverse conditions. Scott Taylor - famed media pundit and ex-corporal - is throwing out a red herring about "crew training" possibly being the cause. Have there been similar "problems" with the Stryker?
M1A1TC
All armored vehicles, esspecialy top heavy ones, have a risk of roll-over. Thats why we practice crew roll-over drills. Its standard practice I bet the SUVs have much higher rate of roll-overs than military vehicles. Why dont you worry about that?

Michael Dorosh
Here's a link to an article on Strykers. It would appear the same (unwarranted?) concerns are also ongoing with them. Michael Dorosh
I think a better explanation would be the ****ty roads found in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Stryker article linked to above mentions that; ISTR the roads in Wainwright and Afghanistan that the last two incidents occurred on were also crumbly towards the edges. Sadly, the media in Canada (and, apparently, the US) are very quick to condemn equipment and training and overlook the fact that accidents do happen.
Nidan1
I know what you mean...if there is anyway that they can potray a negative image of our military people, they will try it. If the mujahadeen are not dangerous enough, then the driving conditions for our troops will be deemed unsafe.

SgtMuhammed
If it drives I've seen it roll. The military is dangerous even when people aren't shooting at you. Call me when they start flipping over in the motor pool.
Battlefront.com
The US military recently conducted a large study to explain the large numbers of non-combat fatal accidents in Iraq involving vehicles. The bulk of them were with Humvees, which are supposed to have a low center of gravity and fairly decent weight distribution. The reality is, as the report concluded, that the Humvees in Iraq are overloaded due to armor packages (factory or field made), driven way too fast, by drivers who lack the experience to safely conduct such maneuvers. Especially in tight terrain. Speed kills, in other words. Soldiers also refuse to wear their seatbelts even when correct ones are available (original ones don't work over body armor). Lack of sleep and prolonged stress/fear were also considered compounding factors. Poor road conditions were also noted in some cases, but certainly not all. A Stryker rolled over into a canal just after the first SBCT was deployed to Iraq. IIRC one soldier died. The cause was the shoulder of the road catastrophically failed and the vehicle had no option but to tumble. The anti-Stryker folks had a field day with this incident, though of course they had to "forget" that at least one Abrams and two Bradleys went into Canals and resulted in fatalities, not to mention Humvees. As an ex-Colonel friend of mine said, "it's strange to think of having so many of our soldiers drown in the desert". Steve
flamingknives
The British Army lost a man after a Scimitar fell into a canal too.
