e-license

Fair enough.. maybe. Thanks for the quick reply! I would however rather see a patch for the version you already bought.

Maybe I wont let this stand in my way and get both ToW and CM:SF.

I will have to sleep on this.. Cheers!

Just so you guys know, all Beta copies of CM:SF have been under eLicense protection for many months now. As expected, it's worked beautifully. Register once and forget about it. Remember we update our EXEs every week or even every couple of days, and we've never had to mess with our licenses. It just works smile.gif And as said above, only the EXE is protected. You have full access to all the graphics and sound files.

FYI, the retail version is protected by a different type of protection than the Battlefront.com direct release. That system is called Securom and I'm personally not familiar with it.

I pity whoever buys the retail version. </font>

Any idea if it'll be available through GamersGate? Will that have eLicense on it?

(Hoping I won't be buying the retail version, though tbh I've been lucky (touch wood) and never had a problem with any SecuRom titles.

I will be getting the retail version then smile.gif never had any problems with either Starforce or Securom. Good call by BF not to confuse the unitiated customers with online licensing issues.

your lucky

Starforce destroyed my combo drive

secrom while not the malware that is starforce has not been the best liked protection system

and not from a hackers point of view but that of a guy that just wants to play the games he bought

with no hassels

I have actually not had a bad experience with Starforce although I do not doubt that it causes problems somehow.

I've experienced Securom's temper first hand. Picked up Neverwinter Nights 2 back when it was released, to this day Securom is still a real prick about realising it's a legitimate disk in the drive.

And you're absolutely right, beast. It is not much of an obstacle to pirates/crack makers, but it causes unnecessary grief for legit users. I don't think having to use a no cd crack to be able to play a legit copy of a game can be considered a good thing.

Straight BFC download seems the best way to go. From their server straight to your desktop. The beta guys have had to do it repeatedly (just has to do the licensing procedure once though) so it does actually work.

My advice is until BFC posts CMSF's own licensing instructions you might want to visit Drop Team or Theatre of War's sites at some point. Read and reread their licensing instructions (yeh, it sounds kinda dull). But when the big event comes a little advance knowledge will help make the whole process hassle free. Man, I can just imagine the bedlam and panicked newbie questions once this game is released! :D

Direct download was a cinch, although a download manager was necessary for me. No big surprise, plus when I emailed about my stalled download attempts Battlefront emailed me back in something like 10 minutes with a solution.

FYI according to wikipedia Securom has issues with process explorer.

Kineas, our servers have (nearly) unlimited bandwidth since it's scaled dynamically to meet demand. We even recently added a server in Europe to improve download speeds for Europeans recently, and in preperation of the CMSF release. However, we have no control over what happens downstream, and we've seen high packet loss for some users using certain ISPs in certain countries, and there is nothing we can do about it unfortunately :(
