Hi Gents,

Congrats on the scores and completing the games.

Can I remind those in with a shout for the wine that I need your AAR's before the end of this next week.

I am sure that I will be corrected but to get the wine we need a half decent AARs from the winners. I am hoping for brilliant but I know how long they take to do.

smile.gif

I hope that the other players who are not in with a chance might consider AARs as well, escpecially from those in the top seeded groups.

I know the pain that might cause but for the sake of the community it would be good to read how you faired at the hands of some top quality opponents.

I have a short list of 5 Top quality AAR's from the first round and will create a ZIP pack with them in for any of you who want to vote on the AAR prize.

This will be posted on a web site for collection as soon as I have seen the final AAR's and seen if any of them are good enough for the AAR prize.

I will be saying this again and again... The quality of all the AAR's has been fantastic and I think I can say we have gathered far more in this tourney than previously. Some great reads and I am sure WWB will be posting them as soon as he can.

Cheers

Holien - Two of my first round AARs are not listed on the B&T website. Have you received them? They are for 'Firefight '40' and 'Things that Go Bump in the Night'.

I completely agree. One important thing however . . . the composer, jwxspoon, made a last minute aesthetic change from "mid-day" to "dawn", which due to the fog settings, changed the LOS from infinite to 200 meters. This was not his intention and I think he was really bummed out when he realized (too late). We all know Jeff is one of the very best designers so I'm over it! :D

I still think it would be an attack friendly scenario, but with unrestricted LOS you could at least build mutually supporting cells for your defense.

Hi,

Yes and I am not sure that WWB has had a chance to load all AAR's onto the web page?

Perhaps if he sees this message he can check?

If he does not have them I can certainly let him have them again.

Cheers

I really enjoyed setting up Honour as the Axis. I didn't totally enjoy getting whupped, but no-one said that the scenarios were going to be even (in fact the rules reserve the right for them not to be).

Did anyone simply run away, and save the lives of the defending troops?

For me I was already decimated before I realised I had set up a lost cause.

Also, WN has shown that Honour can be won. It just took a rather unexpected (for dummies like me) approach. And isn't that how the great commanders always win: chosing the correct unexpected approach?

I'm curious as to how we're supposed to rate AARs when, for example, three of the five I submitted

(before my aborted attempt to complete the Finals) have yet to be posted at B&T? Also, is there some compelling reason the AARs couldn't have been put up in HTML? Would've saved time and made reading them a lot easier.

Regards,

John Kettler

Within limits I agree, but if it's as one sided as the averages portray for this particular scenario then it's just no fun. I certainly don't need to win to have fun but for me this one turned into a 50 turn grind. Just my opinion of course and thanks to the designer anyway for his work - it's far better than I could do smile.gif

When I submitted Honor to Kingfish the fog setting was at midday, which allowed for 800+ meter visibility. Made the hidden axis AT stuff very potent, as well as the arty from hidden observers.

Kingfish noticed in my briefing I had mentioned an attack at Dawn. When he asked me which one to change, briefing or scenario time setting, I had a total brain lapse and told him to change the scenario time setting to dawn.

The resulting LOS reduction totally changed the scenario balance and once I realized it it was too late.

I realize that in the scheme of things for ROW IV it didn't affect the balance of the tourney, but I know for a fact that it did affect the 'fun factor' greatly.

My sincere apologies.

I'd like to see how the best axis player in that scenario set up... My original opponent didn't do very well, my attack literally decimated him everywhere except one bunker managed to kill 2 tanks and a shreck one more on the same spot.

I think it would have been quite different in daylight. I set up for attack in good visibility before I realized what the visibility was. This costed me some time, but I still took all the flags except the ones in the stone buildings.

I sure as hell want to read them. He got 89 points as Axis in Honor--a scenario where the designer admits he blew the balance by changing the visibility. (Kind of kills my excuse for scoring just a 23). And he makes my score as Allies in Wolf look equally pitiful. I want to know how so many allied commanders managed to win that one. My tanks just couldn't kill the Germans, even when they had 3x1 odds, with flank shots.

OK, lets get some scores posted, shall we?

The first scenario on our list is Methode Champenois. As with the regular tourney I will post three numbers beside each players name, with the axis player first.

The first is your scenario score (in bold). The second is the difference between your score and the median score. The third is the difference from the median divided by the standard deviation. This will give you a rough idea of who the leaders are in each section. Keep in mind that the last figure is pre-AAR bonus. Once we get those added in we will run the scores thru the Nabla system, and we announce our winners. Also keep in mind that only the top 6 matchups are the ones vying for the wine.

Methode Champenois

Average axis score: 57.89

Average allied score: 42.11

Standard Deviation (same for both sides): 22.02
