Darkseed
Greetings, as the thread title implies i'm probably as green as they come to CMBB, and CM in general. I only just recently discovered this gem, and after playing the demo constantly for a week I bought the game from this very site. Now don't worry, I'm not going to bother you with any "I suck, what am I doing wrong?" type of questions. Granted, I do suck, but i'm learning. Anyhow, apart from just saying hello to the community, I also wanted to know everyones opinion on what the must have mods for this game are, if any. The game is splendid as it is, but nothing wrong with a little aesthetic improvement, is there? Cheers from a Swedish armchair general.
ng cavscout
Mikey D's mods are a great choice, and I highly recommend Captain Wacky's gridded terrain. I have some of Gautrek's mods also. Welcome to the game. Playing against the AI is alright, but it really comes into it's own against a human opponent.
stoat
For all the mods you could ever want: CMMODS

Fußball
Welcome to the game! For all your infantry skins you will definitely want andrewtf's infantry mods. And anything by mikeyD is great when it comes to armor. Heinzbaby and vossiewulf are also great for armor. And DEY does great winter mods. Just to name a few. Tschüß! Darkseed
Thank you for all your tips so far, i'll be sure to check them all out. Well, I said I wouldn't ask any newbie questions but I just can't figure this one out! Why oh why does the hq coverage for tanks sometimes just disappear even though they are positioned right next to the hq tank? I figured it might be because they buttoned up, but opening them all up did nothing. This pretty much lost me a battle once as two of the three T-34's were taking up to a minute to respond to my commands. Not only that but they had a curious habit of slamming the reverse and driving the hell out of there the instant they saw something even resembling an enemy tank. Bloody cowards, i'd have them shot if I could.
37mm
For CMBB, go to CMMODS... get all the Hi-res terrain mods, the Hi-res sky mods & the MikeyD T-34 mods. Anything else is just extra (and will take years of dedicated downloaded to get).

K.A. Miles
Hey Darkseed, welcome aboard! About your question concerning Russian AFV command, you will find that many Russian early-war vehicles lack an essential part of mechanized warfare: A radio. All commands were issued by flag and hand signal, and when they buttoned up, there goes the command. So, frustrating as it is, you just have to plan for HUGE delays when using early war Russian AFVs. Hope that helps.
Darkseed
Thanks Miles, I just read the faq (again) and noticed that it was in there as well, must have missed it the first time, kinda embarassing. About those hi-res terrain mods that you mentioned Sir 37mm, who designed them? There were alot of terrain mods and i'm confused as to which ones I should get.
John Kettler
K.A. Miles, Actually, this is a flaw in the game design. Russian tanks of the period had special flag ports (small hatches) specifically so that flag commands could be given while buttoned. BTW, flag signals continued in use right through the Cold War. They couldn't be intercepted, you see, unlike radio signals. Regards, John Kettler
Darkseed
Some help here please? In your opinion which are the best hi-res terrain mods? There's just way too many mods out there, makes an old guy confused. And another question if I may: If I download a snow mod for a tank or vehicle, will that skin be used even on non snowy maps?

Larry Thorne
snow bmp files are different from summerones so they´ll appear only if parameters are set to fight on snowy terrain. Edit to add:Welcome aboard when you have learned the basics against ai. you should try pbem or tcp games. Only then you learn how to really use the certain troop assets etc.
Darkseed
Thanks for the answers, i'll download some snow mods then. I think i've learned the basics by now, I usually win against the AI, however I don't think i'm quite ready to play another human yet, i'd most likely get my ass kicked to kingdom come. ;D I have to finish reading the manual too, all 261 pages of it, wish more games came with such extensive manuals. Ordering the cd & manual version instead of just the download version was worth every penny.

Jack Carr
You won't be sorry you purchased this game. I can't recall how many years I've had these games and I still play them almost every day. It's amazing! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Corvidae
Darkseed Hi welcome to the zoo, feel free to seek a PBEM with any person, Especialy me,, i get bored on evenings, and need to have a bit of carnage, BTW,, do you realy suck?? or are you just unsure of your abilitys???,
Darkseed
Well, a little bit of both perhaps? The thing I have the most problems with at the moment is trying to flank those big cats without getting shot to hell. I think i'd prefer TCP/IP over PBEM, i'd hate to have to wait for hours/days/weeks just to play the next turn.
