Allan Wotherspoon
Just tried to add CMFI as an install with H2HH 1.6.0. It was a no-go because CMFI installs the game data and PBEM directories in a different directory (under the My Documents directory) rather than in the main installation directory. Hope H2HH can be fixed to accommodate this!
Battlefront.com
Yup, CM is now compliant with Windows security procedures. We wouldn't be able to run on Windows 8 reliably without the changes. Believe me... we would have LOVED to keep it where it was. The amount of work and hassle to change things was a irksome distraction. Mord
So, where are the scenario Pbem and campaign folders? I only have four folders. Data, Mod Tools, Misc and plugins. Mord.

Mord
LOL. I guess that will be in the manual. Strange. So, I am guessing the folder MUST stay in Your documents? For the game to find the files? I am using XP btw. Mord.

MikeyD
Apparently the coming Windows 8 is the veritable 'monster in the closet' waiting to jump out and frighten bad little boys who haven't picked up their rooms and put their toys away properly. The annoyance of the new filing convention now is meant to forestall monsterous Windows-related headaches in the future.
Mord
So, I can put it back in the CMFI folder or no? Stupid Microsoft...they are like government, they break things that work. They should've stuck with XP! For every three OSes they make, only one is worth a crap. Mord.
Battlefront.com
Yup, that's one way of putting it. Both Windows and MacOS are getting pretty strict on where things can be installed and run from. I hate to say it, but I'm guessing it's going to get more restrictive with each release. Hackers and viruses are just too much of a threat to ignore. Even Apple can't rest on it's superior security laurels. Damned hackers and virus makers are taking it as a challenge. Steve
sfhand
I'm wondering if upgrading CMBN to version 2.0 will change the existing CMBN game directories (I am assuming it will but we all know what happens when one assumes).
Battlefront.com
Yes, it will. We have to do this to be compliant with new Windows and MacOS security measures. Steve
Offshoot
As has been asked, is it still possible to designate an alternative drive/folder to place these files in? I prefer to put data files on a separate partition to make backing up easier and to save space on my system disk.
GreenAsJade
I can, of course, fix H2HH to deal with this (at least, I presume I can, unless something changed in a dramatic way) I need to know what the deal is though What exactly is going to be the exact path for CMFI game files? Thanks, GaJ
Baneman
As has been asked, is it still possible to designate an alternative drive/folder to place these files in? I prefer to put data files on a separate partition to make backing up easier and to save space on my system disk. Not only this, but when patches come out, one often keeps an older version in order to complete PBEM's in progress ( this sort of thing happened with 1.01 / 1.10 ). Will this now be impossible ?
GreenAsJade
What exactly is going to be the exact path for CMFI game files? Thanks, GaJ Anyone? GaJ
Lt. Smash
Anyone? GaJ The CMFI program files are installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlefront\Combat Mission Fortress Italy by default. Game files (i.e., Incoming/Outgoing folders) are installed in C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Fortress Italy\Game Files. Someone on the Few Good Men said that H2HH will work as-is by pointing the H2HH to the CMFI Game Files folder. I haven't tried it yet. GreenAsJade
Thanks. Based on what you have said, it ought to work if you point it at the Fortress Italy folder that contains the Game Files folder. IE tell H2HH that the CMFI Installation is at C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Fortress Italy GaJ
GreenAsJade
How about for the Mac? Have things changed there since CMBN?
GreenAsJade
Oh Damn. This is going to mean that H2HH is going to need to know two folder now instead of one, in order for the right click start game menu item to work The upside is that if it's really true that the Game File folder can't be anywhere other than this path, then at least I don't have to ask you where it is GaJ
Reaper28
Green as Jade is correct I made a mistake on my previous post you point it at the combat mission's C:\Users\[Your Name]\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Fortress Italy directory and it works.
BadgerDog
How about for the Mac? Have things changed there since CMBN? I have run it on the Mac using 1.6.1 and it appears to be working fine .. I stand to be corrected if anyone else has a different experience... Regards, Doug
