    This thread starts off with the contrarian argument that the reason Soviet tanks blow up so catastrophically is not the ammo carousel under the turret, but ends with the underwhelming conclusion that the real culprit is the ammo stored unsafely outside the carousel, the detonation of which causes the detonation of the carousel. I highly recommend the thread for the detailed look into ammo stowage on Soviet tanks, and will post three graphics from the thread below:

    Just a map folks so no you can't do a QB on it or play it unless you actually click the editor button and add forces and plans etc.  Will this be a scenario one day ... hopefully.
    I was prompted to make it because it looked like a BTG or two were going to roll south towards Barvinkove having rolled into Velyka Komyshuvakha towards the end of April and I though it would be worth seeing how it looked in Combat Mission and whether a scenario or two could be built around it - there's definitely meat there for sure so hopefully I can put something together.  If I do so it will be the subject of a separate thread.

    I am not satisfied about the english scout car: the white stripes of the door are saturated and generate a shiny effect.
    So a link to a version without the painted stripes to avoid this effect (still there a little bit🙁)

    The "snow" mods for BF work on FI but only the 3 American tanks that share their 3D design with the French tanks must have their bmp tagged only with "mainland" and "snow" no need "us". For example with the American M10 the hull must be named: "m10-hull [mainland snow]" (the turret is already ok).
    Only the Sherman US M4a3 76w mid and the Sherman US M4 mid don't have snow textures. I'm working on it. For the "Morts aux cons/dead to idiots" scenario, all vehicles, German and French, have their own snow textures.

    Yes I worked on the French vehicles because I am playing the scenario "Mort aux cons!" by pbem 🙂It's not as good as what Umlaut and Aris do but it's better than nothing ...

    Right, so I had a look at what I have in my data folders and as I suspected there was an issue with the various White Scout Car/M3A1 textures.
    At some point there was an overhaul of some sort of these textures which included name changes/corrections, whether this was completely on purpose or through some human error is anybodies guess. Result was some file duplication/redundancy and subsequent confusion.
    As you noticed there are two seemingly identical bmps in the M3A1 set (used for USA and French forces). Incidentally the same has happened to the textures of the White Scout Car used by the British and CW forces. To pour extra fuel onto this fire of confusion the textures for the M3A1 are also named using the same prefix as the British version ie white-scout-car- rather than the more sensible m3a1-scout-car- or something like that, possibly 'cos there's already textures named m3a1-... for something else? So we have a lot of textures named with the prefix white-scout-car- half of which are actually now redundant. Not good for modders as you discovered.
    Back to your M3A1 textures: the bmps you are working on include the unnecessary legacy textures which the game engine no longer uses so far as I can tell. If you look closely at the bmps they do not have the exact same names:
    the US versions are:
    white-scout-car_us-hull.bmp
    white-scout-car-us-hull.bmp
    the French versions are:
    white-scout-car_us-hull [french].bmp
    white-scout-car-us-hull [french].bmp
    ... notice the difference in both sets car_us vs car-us
    It's very subtle but very important as well. The game engine only uses the set with all hyphens in their names NOT the set with underscore, so your textures should all be named following the convention:
    white-scout-car-us-hull.bmp
    white-scout-car-us-hull [french].bmp
    white-scout-car-us-hull [french snow].bmp
    white-scout-car-us-hull [french muddy].bmp
    white-scout-car-us-wheels.bmp
    white-scout-car-us-wheels [snow].bmp
    etc, no need for specifically French wheels, and watch out, poor old Aris came up against the same confusion so may have include the redundant files and mixed some British with US wheels.
    Also I don't think you need to worry about the mainland tag - that isn't used in the installed set so far as I can tell.
    Finally, if you decide to make snowy versions for the British/CW forces then similarly there are redundant textures. You would only need to make textures with naming based on the following:
    white-scout-car-hull.bmp
    white-scout-car-hull [olive].bmp
    white-scout-car-hull [snow].bmp
    white-scout-car-hull [olive snow].bmp
    white-scout-car-hull [muddy].bmp
    etc, and
    white-scout-car-wheels.bmp
    white-scout-car-wheels [olive].bmp
    white-scout-car-wheels [snow].bmp
    white-scout-car-wheels [olive snow].bmp
    etc, you get the idea.
    The only distinction between the base textures for the US/French M3A1 and British/CW White Scout Car is the inclusion of us.
    I think there may be other vehicle textures that have some element of this type of confusion, but can't remember which - all this stuff is stored on scraps of paper scattered all over the place or in my poor old noodle, which is probably not the best repository ...

    Are you talking about the lawn textures? They don't appear unless the scenario includes the [lawn] mod tag. In case you are referring to the lawn textures, that's just what they look like so it isn't a bug.

    In the post above Steven says that the Combat Mission games are hyper realistic simulators. With those words Steven is most likely talking about a simulator in terms of how bombs, howitzer and cannon shells, AT-gun shells and AT-rockets and small arms bullets and more behave and penetrate different surfaces.
    It would be great if the games weren't only great battle simulators when it comes to weapons and surface penetration but also a great simulator in other ways.
    The simulation could for example be better in how soldiers behave in battle, with that I mean not only the soft factors, when they follow orders although they're almost dirtying the insides of their trousers.
    Although a CM-game fanatic with high hopes of success may behave more recklessly when he fights it seems that the more experienced and more motivated troops often cower and wheep a bit too much and for too long. It would be great if the troops that aren't conscripts could allow their sense of duty to override their whish to run to their mothers boobs a bit more often.
    I would also prefer to have trenches which aren't so shallow that the troops have to crouch down to be protected and where troops become exposed when they are walking or running in them. A "hyper realistic" battle simulator should preferably have somewhat hyper realistic trenches.
    It would also be great if the game editor could allow the scenario map makers to make better and greater environment simulators for the troops and vehicles to move around and fight in. I understand that some people who use the editor are more interested in making scenario maps than making a full scenario with AI-movements and adding troops.
    If the scenario maps could be looking a bit more beautiful and be more of a simulator of how forests, villages, towns and so on really look it would probably be more fun for some people to make scenario maps while other people could have fun while they focus on the troops and battle-AI.
