Grey_Fox got a reaction from A Canadian Cat in Tanks are blind in CM
It's an example of behaviour in CM happening in real life. Ergo, CM's spotting is realistic.

Sometimes bad opinions need to be shown for what they are.

That's the point. People have been bitching and moaning for years that spotting in CM is broken because tanks don't spot something which is right beside them and shooting at them.
I'm showing an example of this from real life, showing that the CM experience is what happens in reality.

Man, I'm just making fun of the people who complain that tanks can't see each other when 50 meters away by showing a real life video where one tank cannot see another tank that is shooting at it from 50 meters away.

I see you're relatively new here. Do a search on the forums for "spotting" and "spotting broken" and see how many hundreds of posts have been made about how spotting in game is broken.

It is completely broken. Just look at this they get within 50 meters of each other in broad daylight and be doesn't even see it. It's laughable that anybody would consider this to be realistic behaviour.
Completely unplayable, I want a refund.

It's the RealLife mod, made by @god_almighty111

Grey_Fox got a reaction from SgtHatred in ALERT Windows 7 Users!
The same limitations apply to third party antivirus. They aren't built into the OS, they can only interfere with it, and the more they try to do the more vulnerabilities they cause.
Again, this isn't a controversial position. Domestic users don't need third party antivirus. They just need to keep their operating systems and software up to date, follow good internet hygiene, and have backups.
Just about the only additional software you may want is an adblocker for your browser. uBlock Origin is what I use.
After that, you have all the protection you need built into the OS. A good practice is to crank up UAC to the max, using a separate administrator account to perform any installations.

This isn't a controversial point. 20-25 years ago, third party antivirus added value for domestic users, but the OS developers like Microsoft and Apple rapidly overtook them. Third party antivirus hasn't been recommended for domestic users since about 2008ish. This is a decent article from 2017 which lays out a good case with examples where third party antivirus caused more problems than they solved by interfering with the OS and increasing the threat surface area:
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/01/antivirus-is-bad/
The day of "viruses" is gone. It's all about zero-day exploits. There is no defense against these since by definition they aren't known about.
IT security firms do offer value to enterprise clients who have the resources to spend on custom solutions to meet their unique security environments. But that isn't the case for the domestic user.

Third party antivirus tends to increase the threat surface area of whatever system it's installed on, ironically making them even more vulnerable. Plus the third party antivirus will also have their own vulnerabilities.
There are also no protections against zero-day exploits. The system needs to be actively supported in order to close them, which windows 7 will not be since it's been abandoned by Microsoft.

Grey_Fox reacted to holoween in How Hot is Ukraine Gonna Get?
Giving current NATO doctrine an honest reality check is absolutely essential. But taking it as a starting point seems entirely reasonable.

Why are you still using a 14 year-old OS?

Grey_Fox reacted to Thewood1 in ALERT Windows 7 Users!
There are security issues that Win7 just isn't prepared for. Especially CPU level. And consumers are the absolute biggest problem in cybersecurity. Most big malware and ransomware attacks are done from consumer PCs that the owner doesn't even know are compromised. Win7 absolutely cannot begin to know how to protect itself from those chip-level attacks. That has to be done at the chip level in conjunction with the OS. No third-party AV software or self-help site will fix that. Cyber-criminals drool over unprotected thermostats and Win7 PCs still connected to the internet.
Thats not even talking about GPU driver support completely going away and the lack of Win7 support for DX11 and DX12.

The artwork depicted is a rejigging of the original CM advertising:

To the Battlefront Gods to be... can we get a better order page, like titles would be nice.
Got a new PC, was able to get Cold War found and installed... but all the others, and their upgrades, patches, and DLC is insane to locate, copy the key download and install... after all these years there has got to be a better system.

It's just artwork - most advertising has it.
