  1. The trouble to do grazing fire in this game. When you plot a LOF you plot on a tile. The machine-gunner aims to shoot waist high and get the effect of a beaten zone along the long axis of an attack. The only way we can do this is by eyeballing the area and hope the TacAI is doing the right thing.
  2. It was supposed to replace the T34/85 they just kept the turret. See it as the prototype for the postwar T54.
  3. Spoiler in 'Getting Ugly' the German defender withdraws from Chernevka apart from the outposts without firing a shot. The defending Panthers are in full view of my scouts facing the wrong way. I don't even know, or I will finish the scenario. Still have over an hour playing time left. The withdrawing infantry tells me the river is fordable. The Panthers maybe this scenario was designed for H&H.
  4. QB on H&H on Hotseat you need to convert someone for CM. PBEM not for me 2 - 3 turns a day on small to medium maps. Then people who quit halfway during a game. Lots are wizards and lots don't have a clue. QB maps were meant for H&H I am afraid; the author doesn't know which forces you will pick. Testing is fine H&H against yourself on the easiest setting just to see what works and what doesn't.
  5. I used to own these games but playing now the newer ones. People still complain about the graphics but CM is for me good enough.
  6. Getting Ugly entering last stage of the Battle we have 1 hour and 7 minutes left. German Armor, well they make no sense at this stage right place but pointing in the wrong direction. The river is an obstacle for my armor but not the infantry. Establish firing positions from my side of the river. Company HQ responsible for the execution. We don't have a topographic map but use the cover-arc tool instead. Areas not covered are areas of interest. Few areas at the wheatfield which conceals my position. Distance is just about perfect for plunging fire on the objective. The rooftop of the building will provide some decent cover. Company HQ Team will advance to this position. His security platoon will secure the area first. The other 2 platoons will infiltrate across the river. We have an eye on his Panthers see what their plan is.
  7. I had that yesterday the AI response to withdraw from a perfectly defendable position. Must have been a trigger, Russian reinforcements arrive the AI withdraw its troops. My routine was area fire on top floors of buildings followed by the ground floor. Once infantry arrived no German troops.
  8. They got the shadows wrong. Good 3D software renders it correctly. I won't lose any sleep over it.
  9. His legacy lives on in the remake 'The Road to Wiltz'. He designed the original. I remember the original a TD homed in on my Panther and took it out. Which SOB programmed that one I always wondered? Imagine what it must be like to have played him H&H?
  10. if you do battle with the AI. I think if a unit has become a 'spotting contact' it won't fire at you. We can still do area fire if the full contact becomes a spotting contact. It is time to put some HE on the area then. The AI in a house will go to a lower floor or exit the building. My experience to engage with direct fire on a spotting contact is a good way to waste ammo. 15 seconds is a good limit.
  11. Really? For example, FM 23-65 Chptr 6 Combat Techniques of Fire (globalsecurity.org) (1) Plunging fire. Fire in which the angle of fall of the rounds (with reference to the slope of the ground) is such that the danger space is confined to the beaten zone, and the length of the beaten zone is materially shortened. Plunging fire is obtained when firing from high ground to low ground, when firing from low ground to high ground, and when firing at long ranges. (2) Grazing fire. Grazing fire is fire in which the center of the cone of fire does not rise more than one meter above the ground. When firing over level or uniformly sloping terrain, the maximum extent of grazing fire obtainable is about 700 meters.
  12. Wow, who am I to make suggestions? We forget at times we are dealing with computers and codes which try to mimic real life.
  13. There is another way, check the area you want to plot and allow for your ranging shots. In other words, you consider that the ranging shots may vary. Plot a linear line of fire not necessary at your target once you achieve it adjust your fire. I have 3 types of targets: Reference which is for the FO, Priority and Opportunity. Opportunity are typically 60 mm and 81 mm mortars which complement the HMGs. Once they are in the vicinity of their objective Light on Long where I suspect and adjust when full contacts pop up. Just my tactics which I found work. PS you saw only one spotting round? It is possible the others went off. Check the expenditure of rounds fired.
  14. Does he have LOS where the spotting rounds fall? I got caught like that too some time ago. Example I saw the spotting rounds hitting in the woods unfortunately the FO didn't. Spotting rounds keep expending till the spotting rounds fall inside LOS of the FO. My experience on that one I changed my tactics in that regard.
  15. I posted last Friday about the MG42 I used the Scenario Gog and Magog. From a Tripod the MG 42 firing from 1 km should have the effect of plunging fire on its target of 80⁰. I don't think CM is doing this and I consulted the trajectory tables for this weapon. In RL the weapon had an indirect firing system like the Vickers and the Browning. A long-beaten zone is effected by grazing fire he aims from the tripod waist high recommended distance 500-1000 meters. In HMG mode comes directly under the command of the company. For shorter distances better to use it in the LMG mode. We don't have the commands to use these tactics unfortunately as half the time you get a No-LOS pop up.
  16. Camera Position 1 is the POV of a standing trooper. Lower than position 1 is Hiding (voluntary) and cowering (involuntarily), but it is a similar position. Your HQ unit which is doing the spotting. Let him call the artillery after putting him in hide (He should have at least concealment (example a wheatfield). Get him out of hiding when you see the spotting rounds. They do some spotting whilst hiding read the small green script bottom left corner of your UI.
  17. HE gets rid of your troops and rifle and mg fire gives them some cover but eventually the roll of the dice goes against you. That is my experience.
  18. How did you purchase? If the game is on your account, it may be possible to download the latest version. Unfortunately, I bought mine at the time in a computershop on Windows XP. If your installation number is on your account uninstall, download and reinstall may solve the problem.
  19. Russian WW2 Snipers are doing OK they spot well and suppresses. Here is Comrade Dymov. He just spotted a Panzerschreck flash from a farmhouse. He just has fired 6seconds later. Would have been a good shot but he suppressed the Panzerschreck. Who gets the credit Comrade Dymov or the T34? The T34 crew owe him a bottle of Vodka. 4 seconds later.
  20. Exactly the camera mode I experimented with RTS mode in the settings and went back to standard. Camera1 should be POV like you see in shooter games. Squad POV of the leader, an AFV driver, gunner, and commander. Camera 2-3-4 only accessible when you select a unit. I didn't buy the game to play for Zeus. 5-9 well they are maps accessible for HQ with C2 updates. I am not holding my breath and using it on Hotseat and playing the AI. AFV is simulated by Camera1 and the mouse wheel is 1segment for gunner and 2 for unbuttoned.
  21. Nothing wrong with that idea or construct the bridge over anything else but water.
  22. If you work with pixels, it eats data if you work with vectors, it doesn't. But than it looks like a cartoon. Do we need cinematic quality in our animations?
  23. It didn't move but you did. I had once a scout car like that. Found a sweet spot with the .50 just exposed. Nothing could hit it but the .50 could hit anybody. Don't worry about it
