QB maps are my own pet peeve. I think many of the CMBS ones are frikkin awful. It's not just the issues posters have identified above, but the fact that most of the QB maps I have played so far
    a) bear no resemblance to any town or village landscape I have ever seen
    b) lack tactical benefits of terrain so games become grinding matches
To give an example: the CMBS QB I am playing at the moment -  destroyed factory stronghold - is far from the worst, but is virtually completely flat, has only pitched roof buildings and only 1,2,3 storey buildings, so you cannot seek an elevation for snipers and arty observers.  It also has four arrow-straight main roads (eh?!). There are no ways to sneak infantry up advantageously, and as Kaunitz says just becomes a short range bloodbath.
This is unlike any terrain I have seen, and quite frankly, most factories/warehouses/industrial complexes have many different buildings, from very large flat-roofed ones, to office towers, to small sheds and utility buildings.  Where are the shops, filling stations,  car parks, workers' cafes, and the odd playing field or billiard hall where the workers take breaks?  I've seen more realistic alien planets in games.
I was actually today going to propose that some of us here modify the QB maps and make them better, call them Mk2 versions, that would be quicker than starting from scratch and if a few of us did one each it would not become too  tiresome. I am grateful to @Kaunitz for raising this topic because it was on my mind too.
(note - I like QBs because you can pick your forces, and experiment with different force mixes, vehicles and troops)

I know you are just beta testers.  But it is you guys that come back in and seem to try to turn the conversation about everyone picking on Steve and BFC.  And you come across as semi-official.  So what you say carries some weight.
Instead of just saying, yeah, we know it sucks that our boss doesn't communicate, you feel the need to aggregate every slight BFC has ever faced in their 19 year history.  There are a couple beta testers that generalize individual statements into all out customer-led attacks on all that is BFC.  It would probably be better as a beta tester to not say anything.  Let it go.  By you guys coming in and trying to ride herd, you are letting Steve and BFC off the hook on their poor business practices.
People will come in and complain.  So what?  Its not like BFC is going to suddenly change or salvage its reputation in single forum thread.  You guys do more harm then good when you circle the wagons on issues that are legitimate or excuse away BFC's actions/inactions.  You guys, as beta testers seem very frustrated by these conversations.  So why do you involve yourselves?   Let BFC address it, or not.
I came to the place in my life that I recognize that BFC makes great games, but, outside a cadre of old players and beta testers, they really don't like their customers much.  I still play now and then, and I poke my head in now and then, but I tend not to take stuff personally much.  As long as the games are good, I'll put up with the abuse.

What IanL said above. However... trenches can be modded to some extent and with bits of terrain alteration (ditch locking) these at least can be somewhat improved to look more like the real thing. The sandbags (on the trench edges) can be masked away and if put in -1m ditches it then looks something like that:

FOW issue remains, but personally I either don´t care (the AI does neither) or one can add a number of fake positions so at least a human player will have to guess whether that ditch is just a ditch or additionally holds a trench + anybody inside.

    This is Karl...

And that thing he's cuddling there is Karl's Panzerschreck which he affectionately calls "Bertha". He claims the camouflague on Bertha reduces the chances of enemy tanks spotting him by 75%!
Karl's ammo bearer has cause to dispute this claim as he's lying in a bush picking shrapnel from a tank shell out of his internal organs...

The rest of his platoon, save for a few stragglers and himself, have withdrawn to the woods to the rear.
But Karl didn't go with them despite being shot at by infantry, tanks and surviving two mortar strikes.
He's been hiding in these bushes and watching this one roll up the hill, but he has only 1 round left.

Karl's a good shot, I'm not sure if he's told you that already, he usually tells anyone who'll listen.

His second tank of this December morning.
Now on something of a roll and with no more rounds for Bertha, he pulls his pistol and spies a halftrack. He's not concerned that a squad of enemy infantry were seen running along that tree-line only a minute ago or that his pistol is somewhat inferior to his beloved Bertha in the anti-armour role.

Sure enough, his efforts to ruin the paint job on the halftrack draw the attention of the americans and Karl ist Kaputt..

    The End.

I'd quite like to see if it I can get it working in CMSF, but I'd have to buy it first. I might try it for the CMSF2 demo when it drops. Shouldn't be too hard now I know how.

It was just an experiment to see if the berets on vehicle crews could work on airborne. It doesn't affect the crews - I've tested this and it seems fine. Ironed out a few problems last night - a glitchy switching back and forth between helmet and beret models when clicking on a unit - but I believe this is fixed now (I had missed a whole set of lod files).
I've only tested it in CMFI:GL so far, it will probably affect Polish airborne in CMBN. I haven't tried a mod tag with it but I want to test this too. Unsure if mod tags work with models as they do with textures, but if they do, perhaps you could enable it with a [beret] mod tag. I'm also considering the color. I will take some time to make certain its all good before I upload it to CMMods but in the meantime if you're interested i've uploaded it here: British Para Berets
Despite all the things I've just mentioned, it seems to work fine now, but let me know if you have any problems.

Is it just me or do other people get this effect with fog conditions? Seems common to all CM titles I have and the effect is stronger as I increase the fog from light to dense. Doesn't appear with mist or haze though as far as I can tell. I get seemingly random dark tiles that lack fog. These appear and disappear depending on viewing range. I did a quick test map and found its not related to elevation or lighting. The only thing that seems to cause it is the number of different tiles bordering each other. If more than 3 different tile textures border each it other it occurs. In the screen below you can see it doesn't occur at the tile junction closest to the camera as the two grass textures (which are actually different tiles - clover and tall grass) use the same ground texture but different doodads. Anyway, would be nice to see a fix at some point.
