  5. There are 3 basic types of launched grenades for m1 garand. regular frag(airburst\non impact), HEAT(AT), impact fuse(frag explodes on hard surfaces).

  8. And there goes my purchases Not a smart, and ultimately an untrue call.
  9. Classic trolling, makes something up out of thin air and continues to defend it. I'm starting to believe this is one guy with 10 or more handles..
  10. Way to make something up unrelated to a reply (didn't ask for the meaning of conscript) and answer it, do you have complete conversations with yourself this way?
  11. whine and mope, instead of offering something decent of which the original poster was questioning about...
  12. What would be an example of real life conscript US soldiers in WW2? I would say directly after the beach landings. At that point isn't it when the draftees really started to flood into action?
  13. Getting back on track, I will try testing more small things today, to see if elite uses cover better, secondary weapons more etc compared to conscript.
  14. I tested out elite units in armor, 1 sherman tank and 1 stuart they fire at targets on the move more and spot them better. elite infatry spotted troops and engaged at greater distance. Tested conscript sherman tank horrid spotting and bailed on 20mm hits to hull. If anyone wants to do more testing and report back please do.
  15. I will have to test conscript and elite out in quick battles I don't think I ever played those. Not versus of course!!!!
  16. I took this from the manual Conscript: draftees with little training and no combat experience whatsoever. Green: draftees with little training and some combat experience or reservists with some training and no combat experience. Green can also represent professional soldiers whose training is substandard in comparison to another force. Regular: professional soldiers who went through extensive, quality training programs, but lack combat experience. Or, Regular can represent troops that received mediocre training that have a fair amount of combat experience. Veteran: professional soldiers with standard military training and first hand combat experience. Alternatively, it can be professional soldiers who have trained to a slightly higher standard than Regulars, yet lack combat experience. Crack: exceptional soldiers with more than the average training and plenty of combat experience. Elite: the best of the best. Superb training, frequent combat experience, and generally all around tough guys. MOTIVATION – determines the soldiers’ will to fight. Options range from Fanatic (soldier will never give up and fight even when facing certain death) all the way to Poor (soldier has little desire to fight and will take the first chance to rout). FITNESS – determines the inherent degree of physical readiness of the unit’s soldiers. This influences on how quickly soldiers tire and recover from physical tasks, such as running or being bombarded by enemy fire. Options include: Fit, Weakened, and Unfit. LEADERSHIP – the capability and experience of the unit leader does not always correspond with the quality of the unit. This rating allows a unit to range from great soldiers and terrible leaders, or terrible soldiers and great leaders. The values are from -2 to +2, indicating the leader’s influence on the unit cohesion and various other capabilities.
  17. Then the fences would come in, is a stone fence better than a wooden from direct fire? I imagine a stone building would be better than a wooden barn.
  18. Found this over at WH Despite the reputation of German leviathans such as the Tiger, Panther, and Elefant armored vehicles, the predominant tank in German service throughout the war remained the venerable, dependable Mark IV. In fact, Col. Gen. Heinz Guderian, a legendary German armored commander, even recommended a “quantity over quality” approach, concentrating on mass-producing upgraded Mark IVs rather than expending valuable time, resources and manufacturing capabilities developing new tanks. The PTR series of weapons with the BS-41 tungsten-cored armor-piercing round was able to penetrate 35 to 40mm of armor at 300 meters; the side armor of the German Mark III and Mark IV tanks was only 30mm at its thickest on the flanks. The addition of another 8mm of steel armor Schurzen, physically separate from the hull armor, in addition to providing extra thickness, caused the 14.5mm round to expend much of its energy and begin to tumble from a nose-first attitude while penetrating this first layer. It also helped to protect the more vulnerable wheels and suspension system. Some Western historians have nicknamed these skirts “bazooka pants” and attribute their addition to the appearance of shaped-charge weapons such as the American bazooka and British PIAT. The use of Schurzen was undoubtedly quite effective against shaped-charge HEAT (high explosive antitank) rounds as well, but its adoption was due to Soviet antitank rifles. German accounts from both the field and manufacturers lay the adoption of Schurzen squarely at the feet of the endless supply of Soviet antitank rifles. Guerdian stated, “The ‘aprons’ were sheets of armor plating which were hung loose about the flanks and rear end of the Panzer III and Panzer IV and the assault guns; they were intended to deflect or nullify the effect of the Russian infantry’s antitank weapons, which could otherwise penetrate the relatively thin, vertical body armor of those types of vehicle.”
  19. Getting back at op, I think of it as a fun challenge to try and control the green horns. Although I see how it can be pretty frustrating.
  20. The Germans designed them originally on the Eastern front to protect against HE. Some smaller Soviet rounds would detonate on them first before hitting the tank. The soviets used HE rounds instead of AP in their tanks constantly. The bazooka has a shaped charge not hollow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaced_armour
  21. I saw in the manual it says heavily shaken soldier enter panicked mode, where they act irrationally running into lines of fire. If an HE round fired from a tank landed near a human I think he would be very disoriented and the concussion from the blast would make your vision, inner ear balance, sense of direction and possibly brain and many other things act out of the norm. It would be like spinning around in circles 50 times then trying to run straight, you know you have to get away from the enemy but your brain doesn't know which way to run off to.
  22. Yeap uhuh, and that's why they didn't weld the culin cutter until after hardship in the bocage, or sink into the bottom of the water from heavy gear. Things like this they sure knew all about in training huh.
