HerrTom reacted to BornGinger in CMSF2 Demos Released!
Do we know anything specific about the new patch and the change(s) or improvement(s) it will have?

The demo is fantastic.
That Alamo scenario is tough!
I mostly play quick battle in the newer games, since battalion-level scenarios on huge maps are somewhat rare.
I remember SF having some really good scenarios and campaign missions though.

Funny no matter how much I play this game sand zoom in looking at my pixeltruppen, I always love seeing other folks pics and perspective. Those are some great cinematic shots above.

Carnage and death, the twin reapers of the battlefield, have feasted well this day.
As comrades rush to fill the gaps left by the dead and dying...
another finds he has had his fill and flees the banquet of misery and destruction.

Syrian Infantry dismount under accurate German rifle fire. Apparently MILAN-3 has quite the minimum range that I had forgotten about!
(Side note - CM:SF2 foliage is opaque! Looks a lot better, I think)

Update greatly appreciated.
I'm firmly in the "I have so much CM to keep me busy, release dates don't matter" but I will gladly hoover up all the new stuff as you finish it. 😉

I love to use my Bundeswehr units. A luxury and joy no one else is offering in such detail.
Be German, be always the bad guy, always the nazi.
But at least there is brake. A glimps of hope.
Juts for that, adding the Bundeswehr. Lots of love for CM.

HerrTom reacted to Michael Emrys in Combat Mission future
Oh, there is a chance, just as there is a chance that it will start to rain $50 gold pieces tomorrow. But speaking for myself, I am not ready yet to run outside with a bushel basket to gather them up.
No, I think they do about as well as a private company without access to lots of classified data can do. What I am saying is that modeling anything as complex as combat is inherently shot through with imponderables and difficulties. Even trying to model wars that have long histories of examination and analysis is a tricky proposition. I've seen many models of WW II battles or campaigns, whose first draft seemed quite reasonable, produce wildly inaccurate outcomes when playtested. Fortunately in this case there was a historical record it could be compared to and necessary adjustments made. In a case of a future, even a near future battle with weapons and tactics not even tested in battle, there is no reality to compare the model to, so no way to check whether it holds water or not. That by definition means that it is not a reliable predictor of future outcomes. Not being reliable, it is of no interest to me.

I still have the modpack for CMSF1.
All that is really needed for the modpack to work in SF2 would be retextured infantry models. Everything else would port I believe. Of course it might be better to upgrade the ground textures with those from BS, and I'm sure there are other improvements that could be made. Still though, you could actually get yourself a decent looking formation of Soviets, or an even better fit with the DDR. Convert the T-72M1 to have the textures of a T-72G. Could be a fun project.

Obligatory +1 from me for Fulda Gap.
That said, if you set the Syrians to have good training/motivation, and you give them their best equipment, they are a pretty decent proxy for the Soviets in the 80's. It's not quite 1:1 but it's certainly doable.

Nah, just Hollywood production economics. Likely an abundance of available Wehrmacht uniforms still hanging on wardrobe storage racks.

HerrTom got a reaction from Artkin in They meant september of next year!
Steve himself said why he rarely has time to provide updates. I forget where exactly but it was essentially that the forums are a gateway drug, and he finds it very hard to "just post an update" and avoid getting his whole day (or more) taken up by answering questions and getting into discussions. He's human like you and me, so while I too would appreciate less radio silence I can perfectly understand why he is quiet sometimes! And if Steve doesn't do it, there really isn't anyone else...
I'm excited, but I have plenty of other stuff to do so I don't mind the wait.

I've been holding off posting an official update because there's been an annoying detail and a few other things that needed to get nailed down first. It's pretty much where I need it to be, so expect a post in a few days. -Steve
