Best and most reliable way seems to be to downgrade your GPU drivers to older ones. (You find the details in this thread)

Steam is the reason why PC gaming has lived as long as it has. It is THE digital distribution platform for PC for which all others strive to be.

It has done so well that Valve doesn't need to produce games anymore. Valve's bread and butter, Half-Life, has been all but tossed to the wayside because they don't need it to survive anymore. In the age of the $60USD AAA console game title Steam is the reigns king by providing it's users with a plethora of indy and AAA title games.
I will support small developers that release solid games like our beloved Battlefront, but there is a reason why Steam is one of the first programs installed on my PC on a new build or re-install.

Huge fan of steam. Gone are the days of having to search for patches... oh wait... 🤔 😋

I understand the argument made by the developers against Steam but from a customer standpoint, I see nothing but value.

I told the same thing to the CEO of Walmart the other day. He's just a parasite between me and my cheap Chinese goods. My new furnace was just installed by a parasite between me and the manufacturer. Services have no value after all.

Seriously though, that's one hell of a knee-jerk reaction to a question you clearly misunderstood.

1.) Yes, you can pre-order the download only version of the game.
2.) You'll activate the product when you first attempt to run it.

Hello, I never buy in this page (only in Steam, Kinguin, HumbleBundlee). Now I want buy Combat Mission Shock Force 2, for the first buy in this page, Can I preorder download only?. This comes to mind, because in some pages I have seen that I have to buy at least one DVD or Manual on this page to download the games.
Another question is if at the start of the game, it ask for an access code, or if this is only for the multiplayer. Because if so, I could pass the game to other friends, even if they couldn't play multiplayer.

If you are a beginner the WW2 CM titles have a much easier learning curve.  In CMBS, you could have your force destroyed b4 you understand what is happening.

Yes, it is that time of the year and the big annual exercises begin.
I would try to cover them, as it seems to me that they are not covered otherwise here and that they may be of interest to the public here.
While they may not be as exciting as Zapad-2017 or Kavkaz-2016 to certain observers in Europe (as we can remember said observers claimed that those exercises are a cover up for an attack on Baltic and Ukraine)  they do seem to be the biggest exercises since Zapad-1981 with 3 MDs (East, Central, North) and various centrally commanded assets (VDV and others) participating. Overall it appears that the overall event can be split into 3 main parts:
    - surprise alert drills
    - logisics/rear area exercises
    - actual final exercises
Between the three above it appears that around 1/4 (some 262k servicemen) participated (and/or will participate, as final exercises would be in September) in the event,
The scenario appears to be combating a mass attack by a peer adversary, with a lot of emphasis placed on:
    - mobilisation
    - rear services such as repairs and logistics
    - inter theatre and local relocation of forces (especially aircraft), dispersal (ie to back up airfields or road strips)
    - counter sabboteur exercises (by some VDV air assault units and by Navy)
    - cruise missile strikes (by Tu95MSs, Iskander-Ms, Bastions)

Overall it is unclear who is the adversary, as large scale invasion, which would warrant the scale of the exercise, by Western Forces seems implausible in the East and China is participating with some 3200 troops as an ally rather than as an enemy.

I've updated the general Combat Mission page to include a section on SF2 (scroll to the bottom).
Feel free to correct if necessary. I'm editing on mobile so typos are wont to creep in.
I'll create a separate SF2 main article page next. That will have the released screenshots etc.

Was Murphy a grunt? Or was he actually an engineer?
    - Number 43 has some rather wild implications about a lot of new designs.
    - Number 35, especially, seems inspired by the F-35 program (PAK FA, etc.).
    - Number 37 is pretty much a real life axiom.
    - Number 10 can be applied to polarized capacitors, as they are tiny grenades.
    - Number 26 is a good way to treat overcurrent fuses.
    - Number 20 seems to hold up, historically wise. Fully consistent with 43 and 35.

    This, basically.
Once while playing a scenario, I came up against a Sherman Jumbo. I quickly realised my Panther couldn't kill it from the front, but I thought ok, if I keep firing, soon I can knock out its gun at least. Shouldn't be a problem, right? Happens all the time.
I spent the whole full ammo load of the Panther, but of course the damn Sherman stayed fully operational.
Meanwhile, my own Tiger II... Murphy always gets the last laugh.

Number 7 is so true. Made remember a game of Clash of Arms “La Bataille de Albuera”. A (admitted) huge battalion of Murcia infantry held up the French advance. In game terms, they were mere militia, aka freaks, but then they stood like a rock.
