I don't see anything half-assed about the patch. The graphics improvements alone were kick-ass

It definitely shows. As others have mentioned the flickering shadows are gone. Don't know if I'm imagining it but the anti-aliasing seems a lot better now, and the overall look is greatly improved, scrolling across the battlefield goes smoother. I didn't have to look closely to see the improvements, it's just obvious. This is on a mac powerbook by the way. Applause for the job you've done Phil, well done and thank you.

It`s the time for throwing some bones?
Collingwood replied to togi's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
While I've purchased MG - in fact every CMx2 game and module - what I've most been looking forward to is the new SF or modern warfare game and the EF. Given how long ago the roadmap was posted it's no surprise if it turns out we don't get anything else this year. But yeah, I would love a couple screenshots. But if those can't be provided, then we're a very long way from getting any new games I guess. -
Me too! Which, BTW folks, will run with the same license on Win, Mac and Linux. (you get 2 activations and can de-activate if you move computers/platforms)

All emotions aside, a toggle for snow would be handy. Sure, "it's snowing so you see snow". But at the same time the landscape has trees. You can toggle them 3 ways: full, partial, or none. Light casts shadows, you can toggle those too... toggling a visual environmental effect or feature is not without precedent.

I'm not complaining, I just stick to one platform. That said, when I go on a work trip I have to take my work PC, but also my personal mac laptop to play CM. It would be nice to not have to take the extra mac. It's not the end of the world though. I use a lot of audio software and everything I own runs on mac and pc under the same license without extra payment. Same goes for several of my games. This isn't to say your approach is wrong, personally I don't care but I can see why others might. Most of all and to be clear: I'm grateful that CM is actually available for mac which in itself, given so many wargames not being available for mac, is huge kudos to BF.

Haha, but you don't have to buy a new vehicle just because you moved house do you

off topic: I recall reading that the Hobbit and maybe LOTR books were written by Tolkien originally to be read to his children. I read the Hobbit to my son many years ago, each night for weeks. I did different voices and it was great fun, and one of our favourite memories. It worked really well as a bedtime story. On topic: agree about the metacritic reviews, and the thanks for a great game. Is it perfect - no. Is CMx2 the best wargame(s) I've ever played - yes.

Hmmm. That's odd, the main battlefront page is loading verrrrry slowwwwwly at the moment. I wonder why ?

In the end, none of us should hold our breath for a 'short time'.

Annoying, unbelievable tank spotting
Collingwood replied to ridethe415's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
This is why I like to save every turn before executing it. If something comes up that I think is strange then I can re-run it multiple times - thus satisfying the "will it always happen" vs "was I unlucky" question. I really would like to see this turn re-run several times and see what the outcome is. -
Confused on CMBN-M.G Preorders?
Collingwood replied to Zane's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Well, it would be better if you order the MG Bundle BF haven't released a CM2 bungle yet, imho. -
F E A R T H E P A N T H E R

So would the crew need to swing the turret wildly about to see better ? I wonder how keen they would be to rotate the turret away from the tank straight in front, until they know it's knocked out? -
Why No Pre-Order Yet?
Collingwood replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I'm reading this in a different hemisphere, so I guess I should be happy if it comes out before March 2014 -
Operation Market Garden announced!
Collingwood replied to PanzerMike's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Leaving the vehicles aside for a moment, I'm excited by the master maps. Really adds value to this module. -
There was a discussion about that footage in January right here: tanker tanker pants on fire

Will Histwar 2 have the same UI as the current Histwar ? I tried the demo, but the UI completely put me off which is a shame. Scourge of War on the other hand makes a lot more sense. There is a Napoleonic Mod for it. Hopefully the dev of that might make a Napoleonic game.

+1 plus one is NOT too short a message

Nitpick with the demo
Collingwood replied to Imperial Sardaukar's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I felt a bit the same the first time I tried the CMBN demo. But then I watched the tutorial linked to here: http://battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=98844 - and all (or most) was made clear. It really helped me hit the ground running. -
Initially I had the same thought when considering buying the Mac version of CMSF: will I be disappointed with CMSF after CMBN and CMFI? But I was pleasantly surprised, and haven't found anything that ruined the experience for me. Quite the opposite, it makes for a very refreshing change after the WW2 games. As Buzz says there is a LOT of content available. Not sure I will ever get through it all. I think the Mac Bundle of CMSF is the best value for money wargame purchase I've had in a long time.

Me too, although I can already hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth from players complaining that their KV2s break down within minutes of battle commencing

FPS as a squad combat simulator e.g. Battlefield 3

Thanks very much guys for the responses, I've got a few things to look into now. cheers -
I had a reminder tonight about reducing load on my MacBook Pro. I resumed debugging a project after a couple months, and wondered why there was a new glitch - it's an audio program, and there was a new 'splat' sound at random intervals, not frequent but enough to be annoying. I increased the audio buffer, changed sample rates, still happening. I quit all programs, still happening. Checked the process table. And I see the agents for dropbox, sugarsync and crashplan are all running. I quit those, and the glitch disappeared. There was probably some kind of resource contention happening. So there's another thing to try - many of us now run these agents that sit there in the top menu bar, and we can forget they are there waiting to grab some resources periodically. It won't make a massive improvement but every bit helps.

Well, I thought I knew something about it, but I was misinformed. Thanks for setting me straight in the nicest way. Cheers
