  1. I save my glorious victories, not my embarrassing defeats
  2. All had the commander gazing at the horizon
  3. Interesting area! Some time back my wife, who is Canadian, was filling her car and a local started talking to her. After a while he asked where she was from and, when she told him, said "You sound just like those folk from up North, in Columbus"
  4. Well, I will chalk it up to mix of bad luck and having to learn subtler tactics. My only previous experience was CMBO and the difference between it and this version is like going from chequers to chess. The learning curve is much steeper and longer, but the result is far more rewarding (when I get it right). If I had to learn one really different approach, I would say it is caution. In CMBO you could often get away with tactics that were fun but not very realistic, now I find myself playing a lot slower and most of thee game is spent getting units where I want them. As I understand it, the game calculates all possible LOS for every position at start-up. If that is correct, would it be possible to toggle on/off an overlay for a unit to show what they can see at any point? BTW: love the game
  5. Unfortunately there were no trees or buildings in the scenario: being on the reverse slope seemed like the only option. My units were only spotted as the enemy came over the hill: I had assumed that I would generally get first shot since I was essentially in an ambush mode
  6. Well, they certainly turned out to be equally fragile.
  7. I set up an all armor ME. I had 8 PzIV, 1 StgIII (and strangely three FOs with no offboard artillery). I took a chance and ran them to just below the crest of a hill associated with the victory location, and waited for the enemy to appear. After a few minutes three of my tanks are dead, with no sign of any enemy armor. Replaying simply shows shells coming from straight ahead, but no sign of any enemy tanks! In the next two minutes several Shermans come over the top of the hill and take out all of my remaining machines. Although they were traveling at speed they scored first time, every time; while my guys who were stationary and had arcs of fire that provided at least two potential shots at each Sherman never scored a single hit. In fact half never even fired before being destroyed. My FOs apparently were picnicking at the time and played no role in the process.
  8. Snapz ProX allows you to make movies with sound that can be edited in Quicktime
  9. Does anyone have some figures on the spread of both individual and successive salvos? If a BB lets loose with 6/9 barrels, typically how close do they land to each other? Given the distance and wave action, how close is the next salvo to the first?
  10. Yeah......hardly an on-the-fly tactical weapon. "Sarge, there's an enemy HMG in that house on the corner". "Never mind soldier, in a couple of days we can take out the entire block with one shot!"
  11. The AI often gets weird stuff as well: My last QB I was US Infantry. By the end I found the Germans had started with 8 Guns (3 88s) 2 Pzfaust and just one infantry. I took out all the guns (in two clusters of 4) with mortars and took the objective with no KIA
  12. If they make a Band of Brothers scenario there could be an option to include Cpt. Sobel with a -4 ranking
  13. When I click on a unit, and then hit Tab, the camera seems to pick a random part of the battlefield rather than locking onto the unit. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
  14. That is certainly bizarre. I have found the computer generated mix is often unpredictable (and challenging). My last was as Germans (supposed to mixed) defending against a US infantry assault. I got two each of Panther, 88mm ATG, mortars + ammunition carrier, AT team. No infantry at all.
  15. I always thought in was called Valley of Terror: Freudian slip I guess given my appalling lack of success. Thinking about it: wasn't Valley of Terror a Sherlock Holmes story? Hmm: never mind Hamstertruppen and space lobsters, I want Holmes in a scenario.
  16. In the 50s my brother had a folding 'commando' bike from that era. He also had a folding kayak and would carry one on the other until a suitable time to switch appeared. While both were heavy and not very efficient, it did allow him a very flexible travel schedule.
  17. As far as I know Britain's declaration of war on Finland is the only time a democracy has declared war on another democracy
  18. It would be nice if the button visually changed between “Hide” and “Unhide”
  19. Having actually trained with one of these in the late 50s, I remember (as much as I can nowadays) that the joints were notorious for pinching fingers and the set-up time made it less than useful. Our RSM did mention that in WWII an abnormally high percentage reported as 'lost during action.'
  20. For all the unsuspecting Americans: today's special is Steak tartare. Sounds yummy, doesn't it?
  21. Yeah, I miss them. The random generator sometime turned up some really surreal maps that were fun to play. I am not sure why this ability was left out of CMBN
  22. I have yet another take: I have little interest in playing against others, but I also have no interest in replaying a piece to optimize the process. To me, playing a QB once is the best. No second chances: only your first response to the situation counts; as in real life.
  23. IF there is a a demand.........IF!!!!!!!!! there is a demand? Of course there will be a demand: it is only the key to all of WWII in Europe. I can happily pass up the skirmish in NA and the distractions in W. Europe as long as the REAL campaign of WWII is covered
