  1. Also Civilization Revolution is an interesting turn-based strategy game
  2. Well, it is widely known that the RAF pilots ate lots of carrots (to help see better at night during the Blitz) and this clearly gave them astounding acuity that has survived to '44.
  3. Its summer of '44: not too much to be happy about, except "thank God I'm not on the Eastern front"
  4. My order has been shipped. So happy.
  5. Ironically, the link for voters to learn about CM:BN is broken
  6. I have had exactly the same bug playing a QB solo against the computer, so I don’t think it is specific to cross-platform games.
  7. To quote a famous cartoon "If you know a better hole, go to it!"
  8. How about Time on Target artillery? From all accounts I have read the effect was devastating on morale, regardless of physical destruction.
  9. Oh, come on.......a few dragons would add a whole new aspect to the game. Maybe Combat Mission Skyrim.
  10. In five years the game will be a time machine that transports you back to 1941 as a tank commander. Losing a battle will hurt....real bad.
  11. Even more annoying, visible artillery fire (even friendly) seems to make Hunt troops end their move.
  12. Well, I was trying to stay in the same level of difficulty
  13. “when is a door not a door?“ Ooh, ooh........I know this one: When its ajar! My turn “Why is a raven like a writing desk?”
  14. (< wake pedant compos mentis sleep pedant>)
  15. If you create a random QB, you don’t find out what type of battle you will be fighting until after you have made your choice of which forces you will use. I can see this might be realistic if you are the defender, you have to make do with what is available, but surely an attacker would try to plan for the best mix. This would be different if you plan an assault against a town vs a probe in heavy woods.
  16. Probably as stated above. However........ Syria did use many WW2 German tanks well into the 60s but mainly PzKw IVs. To push the limits of speculation: there are reports of Panther turrets being fitted onto PzKw IV chassis, so who knows. Maybe the security forces got hand-me-downs from the army? But, no. I imagine it really is a T62.
  17. While placing units, I noticed one squad was floating 10 metres above the top of the trees. A bit exposed, but with great LOS.
  18. For a comedy, a lot of people died in that movie.
  19. I was Germans in a random QB, defending against an assault. I was given 12 armored cars and one sniper. I set up some of the cars as far forward as possible, to try and find out what I was facing. First turn I spot 6 Shermans and two M10s, so I pull back and wait, hoping to get flank shots as they come up the only road. And wait, and wait, and wait. Time runs out. We go into 20 minutes overtime and the game ends. I get a minor tactical victory for holding the key position. Looking at the final map, all of the US armor is huddled at the far end of the map: as far as I can tell it never moved throughout the entire battle. Obviously the US commander wins the 'chicken of the year' award, but shouldn't the basic plan for an assault pretty much ensure some forward movement by the attackers?
  20. It brings back memories of graphing LOS on topographic maps. With a line between two points you would then plot distance/elevation between them. If none of the intervening points were higher than the straight line between the two end points, then you had LOS. Hah! As many have pointed out, and as the game emulates, vegetation, structures and your posture all play a key role in the final outcome. I doubt if half of the cases where I expected LOS actually provided it when you got to the hilltop.
  21. Related: a “Shoot and Scoot” command. Move until contact, fire and retreat. Great for weak reconnaissance units.
