  1. I find that in such cases part of the problem is that I subconsciously think that, because I can see something, the unit should be able to also. Even when I check LOS/LOF and find them negative, I still keep expecting them to react based on what I am seeing on the screen. This can work at a larger level as well: enemy armor appears on the other side of the screen and I expect my AT guns to swivel in response, even though there is no possible way they could be aware of their presence.
  2. Maybe a compromise solution. If someone could start a blank forum and those with the knowledge could copy relevant material from the CMSF tips forum and leave the rest behind. Then new, appropriate, material can be added over time.
  3. For readers who havee not already found this site, it is a searchable compilation of individual soldiers' memories. http://www.witnesstowar.org/
  4. I asked about this in conjunction with multiplayer large scenarios and was told it was not possible.
  5. "am i really the only one who has seen the "easter egg"?? make a custom scenario with tracks and at least two buildings next to it. if you wait long enough in preview, a train will eventually appear. click on the train operator and you get a first perspective view in which you can control the train and move around the track you have created. i couldn't figure out how to add coal so the train stopped after a while. i wonder if anyone knows how to add coal?!" That's nothing. Find a QB that that has a village with the cafe L'Auberge au Coin Fleuri: go in and ask for Nicolle. Follow her up to the 3rd floor and experience the thanks of a grateful French nation. CM programmers: you are amazing!!
  6. That's because they are printed in landscape mode: duh!
  7. Good points. Having spend time in Normandy I know that much of the bocage has a 2-4 metre solid earth bank that would be impossible for a tank to clim as it is almost vertical. Black: where in Sussex? I grew up in Brighton, but now live in new England
  8. Surely that's only true for Finnish troops?
  9. Maybe an extension of the tutorial scenarios would be useful to many of us. If some dedicated grog could take some of the existing battles and do a walkthrough, pointing out what to look for, explaining why specific tactics were used at key point etc. This would obviously be a considerable amount of work, but could become the start of a BF military academy.
  10. Thanks for the info. The reason I asked is that there is another thread talking about large scenario. If I understand it, it would stitch together many individual battles, each being played by an individual, into a large battle. One drawback that was mentioned was how to ensure that every player kept participating. If one quits you suddenly have a 'hole' in the operation. It occurred to me that, if the AI could take over then this might minimize the problem. It would mean an AI vs Ai battle, which might not be the ideal, but would allow the entire operation to proceed.
  11. I asked this in an unrelated thread. Since it got no answers I wasn't sure if it was ignored as irrelevant, or because no one knew or cared about it. Since each side has specific objectives how much of this is built into the unit behavior. For example, if one side has to attack and capture a village, will the units try to do this, even in the absence of human input? Or will they just sit there unless attacked by the other side?
  12. Hollywood figured out the answer long ago: the first man throws himself on the wire and the rest of the squad run over him. This actually works and was still in the British basic infantry manual in the 60s. You quickly found out where you stood with the rest of the squad when it came to choosing the fall guy.
  13. Obviously, Kelly's heros have been at work with their paint shells.
  14. If there is one thing I have learned in 68 years it is that sometimes, even if you think you are right, just let it go.
  15. Who needs Stugs? If you look carefully you will see the entire attack is led by a guy on a BICYCLE!
  16. Okay, got it. Thanks. Not kidding about small print. At my age I need to put on my special reading glasses under 6pt
  17. But in QB there is no designer, or designer notes.
  18. When defending in a QB, how do you know which side the attackers will appear?
  19. It was this scenario that led me to ask about including contour lines. I spent almost half the game finding the one spot that allowed me to use both the mortar and MG against the hilltop
  20. If we are going to have tea, then corned beef sandwiches have to added as well. It seems almost every account I read of the British involves them wolfing down a couple at every break. BTW these are not deli-type corned beef, but canned (a totally different material that just happens to have the same name)
  21. Compared to almost every other gaming site I know, this one is amazingly non-confrontational (Peng thread excepted). As a result, even slightly brusque replies stand out, but I cannot see that any I have read are offensive. There is always the option of simply not reading postings from those who you find to be rude or patronizing. As for bocage problems, as I said in another post: it is what it is. If it is frustrating to us, imagine what it was like in reality!
  22. CMX1 had an 'ambush' command that was great for antitank work
  23. Any scenario makers want to tackle the other two? The meeting engagement was my favorite.
