  1. Totally agree. Confusing, aggravating, slow. The worst download system i have come across
  2. You are right, but found the time needed to replot every unit for each move became too tedious for enjoyment.
  3. They just fired 10% of the state workers here. At least we have time for CMBN
  4. Urban dictionary defines soon as A word that Jared Leto uses when he doesnt have a f*cken clue when somethings going to come out, or when he wants to piss off the fans. I would go along with that.
  5. It is also important to remember that we're not releasing "the perfect wargame", or even "the perfect game". Well, we know what that means! No space lobsters
  6. I tried it back in the CMBO days, but only with small set-ups. Even then I found it hard to keep a mental picture of where everyone was in my head. So, I did what I had done in training: created a laminated map and used a grease pencil to mark locations. At that point I realized I was simply transferring the computer overhead view from the screen to the map and scrapped the whole idea.
  7. I have ben informed that my translation leaves something to be desired and that it should be Sad counsels, disloyal, cunning, Wicked advice, the Law will be betrayed: The people stirred, wild, quarrelsome, In borough as in town, the entire peace hated. I still think it means today!
  8. My experience, in other programming circumstances, is that incremental changes get increasingly complex and buggy. Eventually the better solution is a complete break, even if it means lack of backward compatibility.
  9. Nostradamus, in century XII, quatrain 55 says One year before the Mayan end Ten days before the rapture comes All waiting shall be rewarded The steel box will appear Clearly that means today: or else Nostradamus is a load of crap
  10. And oil drums rolling down the hill towards you
  11. Take it from me: villages are MUCH easier than castles.
  12. One of the significant, though non-quantifiable effects, probably was a general slowing down of all traffic. If you are constantly scanning for FBs, and avoiding whatever actual damage was on the road, average speed was almost certainly well below what it would have been otherwise.
  13. I have a piece of toast with Jesus' face on it: it's yours for a very reasonable price
  14. Can hobbits be far behind? We know Gandalf has a flame thrower.
  15. True: but the experience of a truly distinctive single-malt is incomparable. Blends are designed to appeal to the widest possible audience and, while very pleasant, seldom challenge the senses. On the other hand a single-malt such as Loch Ddu may be overpowering for some, but is perfection for others. I keep 20-30 different ones on hand and pick according to my current taste. But I agree, the waiting is causing my collection to diminish rapidly.
  16. I believe that every so often aliens take over key members of our planet and play with them for a while. The result is a group or society that appears crazy because they are now operating under alien logic and with different motivations. Examples would include the Khmer Rouge, North Korea, Morris Dancers (The Brits will know what I mean), Glenn Beck and now, in our own ranks, the Peng thread. I suggest we all watch the direction that the posts take, and be prepared for truly horrible things starting to happen. Those who have followed this forum for years may be able to look back and realize what hard-to-explain global events can really be ascribed to the actions of this group.
  17. And, as I mentioned in another post, I think this forum shows a general level of maturity (Peng thread excepted) that is pretty rare for gaming sites.
  18. If they have cotton balls then the English can't use the 'funniest joke in the world' weapon, which was so devastating.
  19. There are always those who argue from ignorance and/or prejudice, and trying to reason with them is futile: therefore a bottle or three of your favorite is often an appropriate response. FWW mine is Glenfarclas 105, rather than tequila. Richard Feynmann summed up the problem of trying to argue with or explain things to those who are insufficiently prepared, when a reporter asked him to explain magnetism: "I can't explain it in terms you are familiar with because I don't understand it in terms you are familiar with"
  20. Having just read the Peng thread I wish to withdraw my assessment of the relative maturity in the this forum:D
  21. How about Ent infantry? A match for the Hamstertruppen any day
  22. So, the average age is somewhere in the early 40s. That's about 10 years older than I had guessed but probably helps to explain the tone of this forum. I belong to another (un-named) game forum where the average age is barely 20 and the quality of the posts is significantly less mature. Stratego! Yes, thanks for the name. There were also air and naval versions that were really the same game but with planes and ships rather than troops. Like many of you I went the route: AH, PanzerBlitz (amazing game for the time) and the entire Strategy & Tactics line. Early computer games were frustrating because of weak AI rather than poor graphics: my imagination is good enough to 'see' a red square as a T-34. Tended to stay with games like Wizardry for several years, the Civilization. When CMBO came out it was a whole new day for me, now I expect to spend several more years exploring all of the ramifications of CMBN. Looking forward to future threads on topics as diverse as Goliath tanks and the morale effect of 88mm-equipped Jabberwocks.
