  1. I am not sure I agree with that - check out my forum join date. The minute I heard about CM I went back to my desk and checked out their webstie. With in the hour I was signed up on the forum and I purchased CMBB and CMAK that night. I was thrilled with the concept but was heart sick that I had not heard about it earlier. If I had discovered CMBO back when it came out I would have been playing CM games for 10 more years. That is 10 years of war-gaming that I missed out on I have no idea where I would have heard about CM games if it was not for the total accident that I happened to overhear a couple of coworkers talking about the announcement of CMBN. There is an excellent chance that had I not happened to hear that conversation I would still not be a customer of BFC's. I am not sure how may of us war-game fans there are who are totally out of the loop on the existence of CM games. It always struck me that I cannot be the only one who gave up on table top gaming long ago and just does not know about CM games.

  3. You might get an answer quicker in the tech support sub forum. At least official BFC support people monitor that forum.
  4. OK sure. I remain unconvinced that it will turn out to be the root case but hey it *is* possible as you say and I had not thought of that.
  5. LOL happens lots including hitting the wrong set of play back controls.
  6. LOL why? Here is what Steve has said before: To me it looks like Steve pays attention to what Steam is up to and he know what he thinks needs to change to make him happy. I say leave him to it.
  7. Ah, well you might have to read the other really long thread to get the answer to the question of "who hit whom back first" but I think @Kauz is triggering a lecturing tone because he started out with one and has repeatedly demonstrated a very closed mind to other peoples experiments and research. IMHO since he has not listened very well he is pretty much only going to get lectured from here on out While I agree that if an HGM was only marginally more effective than an LMG that would be odd. However I see no actual evidence or experiments presented here that legitimately show that is the case. All I see are the same dogmatic statements repeated with no adjustments or learning. Plus the same totally flawed experiments being repeated without listening to feedback from other posters. My impression too is that HMGs are quite useful. I have a couple doing a nice job making my opponents life difficult as we speak. I would not consider swapping them out for LMGs to be a good thing. LOL you have not demonstrated any open mindedness. Sorry we are "harshing your mellow" but it is not a discussion if one side just keeps repeating the same thing over and over.
  8. The on disk file structure of an app has little to do with how it executes. The interaction with some behind the scenes process that might be steeling key strokes would not be a direct result of the way files were placed on disk and only be based on program execution. Please enlighten me as to what I am missing.
  9. Be careful of this course of action. Buddy aid often does not give you all the bombs being carried. Sometimes you just get the round in the tube but none of the others. Plus, you will not be able to shoot him with small arms so unless you have a .50 cal near by you will have to use HE which might also damage the launcher.
  10. Sounds promising - I actually have a problem with <shift>ESC (which pauses / unpauses the game without the Paused notice appearing on screen. But it dose nothing on my new machine. I am still trying to figure out what might be causing it. I also have a wrinkle that I am now using a KVM switch which could be a factor as well. Still <shift>ESC not working is not a big deal but <alt>T no working would be a hassle.
  11. On the face of it I agree that it sounds like something is capturing the <alt>T but that only makes sencse if the problem is in CMBN as well as CMRT. I do not see how a system level process that is capturing <alt>T would do it to one app but not another.
  12. So, if you run CMBN <alt>T works as expected. Then if you shut down CMBN and fire up CMRT right afterwards <alt>T no longer works? Is that correct?
  13. Interesting. But if it never mentions the product or company name what good can come of it? Is there a link or anything?
  14. Actually I could argue that since it had enough kinetic energy to penetrate and exit then it must *not* have hit anything substantial inside the tank otherwise it would not have had enough energy to exit. We have had several threads that show that the internal damage model is pretty abstract so we will be seeing this kind of thing frequently and I agree with Bill 100% we just have to move on. Direct tracking of internal damage is just not a game feature at the moment.
  15. Couple that with the fact that troops actually do sometimes shoot at ? or even enemy that are not even showing up as ? yet. I have seen this several times when watching units up close. You can see soldiers aiming and firing and then a few moments later the subject of their shooting shows up as spotted.
  16. This is really important. If you are having trouble running a game start by turning these settings down. Yes turning them down makes the game look worse but you can still play. I learned this playing Monty's Butchers on my old machine. That map has lots of trees and the scenario has quite a few units moving around. I was getting frustrated with the game being sluggish and locking up for short periods. Once the light bulb went on, I turned both settings down two notches and it was like night and day. So, even though the visuals were not as good my enjoyment went way up. I just had to remember to turn the settings up for my other games.
  17. Help in what way? It is true that CM currently, from statements by BFC, is single threaded. However they have also stated at least once that they are on the lookout for opportunities to help improve performance by using additional threads (which *would* benefit from additional cores). In addition having multiple cores makes the whole system run more smoothly because even if one single threaded app is working hard you can still do other things with your machine. Another factor is that I do not think you can even find CPUs now that are not multi core. So worrying about how many cores is probably not going to be relevant to game play. In my opinion the two most important things you can do in your new machine is make sure it has lots of memory and a good graphics card. My new machine has an i5 processor but with 16G of memory and a Nvidia 760 graphics card. The smoothness of navigation in game and the ease of switching back to the OS while playing the game is such a breath of fresh air. Not to mention that I no longer have to go get a coffee while the game starts - yay I am soooo happy. Granted 16Gb of memory is probably more than needed for game play but I have other needs too such as processing multiple photos in Photoshop. 8Gb of memory would probably give excellent results for game play. The key is you want the OS to be *able* to give 4Gb to the game process and still have memory left over to keep running smoothly its self. I am also sure that an i7 processor would be that much better but I needed that extra memory and the accountant said I had to give something up
  18. Ah, well sorry to offend. And I did not imply it was easy. I was just pointing out that not every wall between buildings needs doors. My experience with map editing, which clearly is much less than yours, is that anything you need to do in the 3D view is *not* easy at all and it is very labour intensive. So I did not state this easy nor was it my intention to imply that it was.
  19. Yeah, I have seen that a lot. But no always there are several maps where the doors match up - or at least there is a door on both sides even if they don't line up all the time. Humm, how to phrase the answer. I think that the answer is that it is supposed to work this way but map makers are also supposed to put doors on both walls so it is clear what is up. I do not have a definitive answer but I suspect this is just for pragmatic reasons. The desire would be for map makers to have doors on both walls so everything seems correct. Yep, This really only applies to the case where you have single buildings created by adjoining multiple buildings together. So even on a crowded urban map that will not be that many buildings where this is needed. Think about it if you go down town where the shops are in a row and share walls the vast majority do not have doors between them. We are expected to go out onto the side walk and then go enter the next store from the street thought its front door.
  20. Yeah, there are several modders that don't bother with the Repository any more since its search capabilities are lacking and there is a size limit too I believe that causes some problems.
  21. I was hooked just hearing my two friends talk about this game Then I picked up CMAK and CMBB and loved from the first moment. If I had to pick a moment it would be the first time I figured out that actual tactics worked in game. I do not remember the scenario but it was in CMBB and the Germans are trying to get convoy across the map and the Partisans are trying to stop it. I tried to push the Partisans out of a tree line and my first attempted failed badly. I just ran a squad across the open ground expecting them to make it. There were wiped out or routed I forget but it was bad. I told my dad and he told me what he would have done. I tried that, suppressive fire leap frogging a larger force all the while keeping up the area fire into the trees. The next force made it in good order and took it to the enemy. Once the CMBN demo came out there was no looking back. I finished the PBEM game from the old series and never loaded the games again. They are not even on my new machine.
  22. Nope you are not missing out. If you are happy with Iron that's awesome. Personally I play on Elite (but I am flexible with opponents - if they want Iron I'll do it)
  23. LOL I heard enough of that song last night: the Habs are out Go Rangers.
  24. Indeed - I don't want to see anyone get into trouble over distributing information:) Excellent thanks just the kind of thing I was looking for. My searches did not take me to that site at all - Google is too heavily weighted towards news sites sometimes.
  25. LOL guys. While I was gently giving Fredrik a hard time about Iron mode there is no way for a scenario author to force a setting like that. I am sure the scenario is a good as any, just play it on what ever setting you want and don't worry about what the author might write.
