  1. You are of course correct my joke was perhaps only a little bit funny.
  2. LOL as long as re remember what target is about to get hit. I frequently find my self unsure and waiting to see what happens.
  3. Yeah, get those guys back close together and running in lines again. Come on, what were you thinking BFC?
  4. LOL I find that happens frequently with precision missions. The turn ends with the round in flight and the artillery is available again for use. More than once I have said to myself "what happened to that precision mission and who was I targeting, again I forget". Then near the beginning of the next turn a surprise enemy vehicle gets taken out.
  5. The summary of the progress 2 Battalion 116th has made so far. E Company is blocked by the mines and road blocks. Instead of pressing forward they will bring up the engineers and cut the bocage so they can head to the left F Company has taken casualties but will continue to move forward. With one platoon following the farm track to protect the right flank and the other platoon going through the field.
  6. Good question. He definitely did not deploy forward. It took 15 minutes to make contact, I shortened the narrative to catch up to the time when I took the first casualties. As for if the initial units are outposts or not: I'll wait and not spoil the next few turns.
  7. Minute 3:44: Orders Clearly going straight down the road at this point is not going to work for the tanks so the recon teams pull back – avoiding the mines – and proceed to cut a passage in the bocage around the road block. You can see the ? contact on the right where the MG fire came from. Over on the left F Company and their tanks consolidate the fields they control and get more firepower directed at the bocage line that contains the enemy. Minute 3:44-3:43: Along the road the engineers are setting up to breach. On the left infantry move up to the edge of the cleared fields. At the same time they enter the continuation of the farm track on their right flank.
  8. This was a non trivial mistake. One that I frequently make. That field should have been crossed by a scout team only. Even with the large amount of supporting fire the whole squad was placed at risk. They take five casulties in less then two minutes. Even being in command with their Lt. they panic and break. The supporting fire is not enough to save them. So, instead of loosing two men I loose five. The squad never recovers and is my first broken unit. Loosing the two jeeps to the mined road was really painful but I don't feel it was a mistake, after all a half track and the bulk of a platoon plus recon teams had all walked across those mines so there was no warning. But the losses to F company I feel bad about.
  9. F Company F Company is moving through the fields to the West. There are no added recon forces here so the lead platoon (1st Platoon under Lt. Turner) will be doing recon in force. Most of the platoon will take up positions behind the first bocage row and then one squad will cautiously move into the orchard beyond. Moving off into the Orchard The orchard is very quiet and visibility is not the greatest so the full platoon will begin to move through it. Clearing the orchard is uneventful. Once they cross it to the next bocage line the rest of F Company arrives along with the first of their tank support. This corresponds with the arrival of the artillery. With the arrival of more troops 2nd platoon joins the lead by going left around the small field while 1st platoon heads right, down a farm track on the other side of the small field. Heading down the farm track. Second Platoon arrives at the road Since the small field had been flanked on both sides the Rhino tank breaches the bocage and two tanks plus the 3rd Platoon enter the field. The next field has a strong rise in the middle of it so the advance cannot be covered from the near bocage line. 2nd Platoon is going to have to enter the field to get eyes on the other side. So far, so good. With 2nd platoon taking up positions in the next field and 1st Platoon doing the same in the field to the right the lead squad of 2nd platoon will begin to slowly cross the field. They have tank and MG support backing them up. And now this battle is real for F Company too, the lead squad takes a casualty from unidentified MG fire from across the field. Another squad and the attached mortars being firing at the suspected enemy location immediately. But some have to reposition to apply effective fire. And it ends pretty poorly with four more soldiers hit. Even with some pretty nice fire on the enemy position.
  10. Oh interesting. I was not aware and have breached the bocage in a few places with the Rhinos. I'll switch to using the engineers - so far they have breached as much as the Rhino. But that is getting a bit a head of myself - I really need to cathch this up...
  11. That's not how the explanation goes. Hand to hand combat happened rarely. Spending scarce time on rare events might not be the best use of those scarce resources. It's priorities not denial.
  12. This might be the first time anyone complained that hunt was too insensitive. I am not aware of any changes to that and I cannot say I noticed any differences but on the flip side I am not a big hunt command user either.
  13. Yep, empty the vehicle if crew and then hop out and toss a few pineapples.
  14. OK I would recommend downloading the v4 full installer (named CM Normandy 4.00 Full Windows). Then uninstall the old CMBN you have and run this installer. What that will do is install the base game, all modules and all packs upgraded to version 4.00. During that process you will be asked for the v4 key to activate the base game. Then use the activate module short cut to enter your module and pack keys - I think one at a time - to activate everything else you own. That should get you fully setup. If you don't own all the modules or packs then their icons will still appear but will be dim.
  15. I mostly agree but there are limits - use common sense. If you load up a squad with 1000 rounds of 9mm on top of extra other stuff they are going to tire quickly because of the additional load.
  16. I do not experience problems like that. I also don't recall seeing this type of issue reported before. There have been a few people with problems downloading from the BFC store. Those issues have been solved by thier ISP or by having smaller files to download. That does not seem to match your symptoms. By that I mean the files giving people problems were 6 to 10 Gb and the solution was smaller Gb files. I don't think any file on cmmodsiii is bigger than a gigabyte.
  17. We in the CM community use the word mod a bit differently than some other communities. We use it to mean skinning. But the other meaning of modding is to add new vehicles, soldiers, weapons etc to the game. So, you could create a full set of Soviet tanks and vehicles and play what if the US tried to push the Soviets back after the fall of Berlin. Of course it could also be used to make <insert favourite tank here> stronger or <insert hated tanks here> weaker so the uber <insert favourite army here> can crush the sad <insert hated army here> every time
  18. When I visit that link there is a download button in the upper right corner next to my name that downloads a .zip file that appears to be everything.
  19. This post has various trouble shooting advice - including how to get the modules activated: http://community.battlefront.com/announcement/27-special-upgrade-4-tech-tips/ Not sure about your PS are you saying you could not find the v3 upgrade install files? Starting with the v3 upgrade and CMBN they released an all in one installer that means you no longer need to start with your CD and install umpteen things in just the right order to get the game to work. If you already had a working 3.12 installed then the v4 upgrade install would do the job. If you wanted to start from scratch - new machine or older install then I would recommend the v4 upgrade all in one installer which can install the game from zero with nothing else. Other than the above tips here are a couple of additional things to keep your eyes on: When you unpack one of BFC's installers make sure it unpacks into an empty folder. The installer they use will automatically grab other files if there are any extra one in the directory. Virus scanners can do goofy stuff with .exes and short cuts. Set them to ignore the directory where you are installing the games.
  20. Actually a fairly consistently agreed upon set of artillery rules have a little more nuance: Meeting engagement: no pre planned artillery Attack, Assault, Probe: attacker can pre plan whatever they want but the defender cannot. Defender can have TRPs. Basically the above recognizes two things that attacking often follows an artillery barrage and the defender should be spread out and expecting it. In situations where attackers are moving into the field of battle they often have small and identifiable setup zones that makes dropping artillery on them unfun / unfair.
  21. Just in case... If you have any trucks, jeeps or half tracks you would be able to load the squad (or a team) into the vehicle and use the Acquire command to get more ammo for them. In the case of a jeep just load up a team that fits and acquire what you wand then let the teams recombine into a squad again - that will spread the ammo out.
  22. Move to Contact: minutes 4:00 to 3:43 E Company E Company is moving along the road. They are being led by the recon platoon from the 745th. They will start in their jeeps and HT and hunt for most of the way. Meanwhile the lead platoon will take up positions in the bocage around the road. The view from the road. As the recon troops make progress and all is quiet. The lead platoon follows behind them. After a while the jeep borne troops dismount and leap frog in front of the half track. Eventually reinforcements arrive with the first tanks. Still no contact has been made so the new troops advance freely. The first barrage comes down. The rest of the company arrives and instead of following the road and causing congestion they will cut some bocage and move towards the farm parallel to the road. Then the first sign of the enemy, a road block. In the middle of the picture as far down the road as we can see is a hedgehog obstacle. Time to be even more careful. As the recon troops inch closer with the .50cal of the halftrack watching from behind the road block becomes clearer. It gets real. With two recon teams ahead two other teams have gone back for their jeeps and brought them forward. Suddenly they both hit mines and all eight team members are casualties. This part of the road has been crossed by the half-track safely so it is a surprise. At the same time the lead team takes two casualties to MG fire from across the next field.
  23. The Artillery Plan Along with the planned avenue of approach there is an initial barrage and a delayed barrage planned by Lt. Ratynski who also came forward with the initial forces in case the plan needs to be stopped or changed. The plan calls for an initial barrage along bocage lines in front of both avenues of approach at the closes location where the enemy might be expected. This initial barrage will be delayed five minutes. In addition another barrage similar located along a bocage line but this time further in and delayed 15 minutes. Lt. Ratynski can cancel them if the troops progress faster than expected.
