  1. LOL what @sburke said - give up on RT, stop putting lies into your own head and watch a real news source. You are confusing political disagreement with disunity. It is hard for people who are encouraged to view dissent as disloyalty to understand it but we in the free world disagree about lots of stuff but we agree on much more and when the chips are down we help each other out. You quote various examples of bad things happening during disasters - there is always some jackass taking advantage - those are small potatoes. You don't understand the level that people cooperate and help each other out in times of trouble. Volunteers from all over the place and from other countries come to help out if the disaster is big enough. Plus, you are conflating two things - social collapse and government collapse. I highly doubt that citizens of the US or Russia would suffer from social collapse (Russians are too tough and Americans are to community minded). Governments are another matter.
  2. People have already linked the videos I would have. I will only add don't worry about watching videos on tactics from CMFI they still apply to CMBN. Even though there are large differences from WW2 and Modern conflicts you will still likely learn useful things from the CMSF videos too. They might not be directly applied but the goals and steps will still be valid.
  3. Hee hee. Same here but differ reaction. I'm about to turn 50 but I have kept up well and am still a professional programer and up to date with tech. Self taught from the start so kept right on doing it. Done mobile device and web dev plus multiple new programing languages. Just cause we are older doesn't mean we cannot keep up. And yeah those whankers not paying attention are a pain. But us old guys can own and learn a smartphone and have the discipline to pay attention to the world around us. Back to the OP yeah it would be nice to know by name and not just date what is in our list. But since the store doesn't work that way I have a file with all my keys saved away.
  4. Not a bad idea. To solve your immediate problem you could withdraw tanks with damaged main guns. That's probably what would happen in RL. Note: yeah I'm not doing that either
  5. Each family gets better at this but frankly even if during testing, if as an example, I was happy with the results out in the real world people would likely not be. I have three thoughts on this. One, just choose something and go. Two do the above a dozen times and save the files away. Next month play them . Three, ask someone here to setup a game. Even send them a screen shot of what you want in a force and let them set that up and pick the opfor. Bounus: Four use the auto pick and quickly review it it if looks goofy press select again. If you don't look too closely there will still be surprises. The amount of point advantage to the attacker. Probe has the least and I think assault the most but I am not sure. I really only play probes against humans. In this game they way we fight it is very hard for the defense to come out on top. Probe is the best chance that the defender has to be able to win. Correct.
  6. But, there is no logical way that NATO should be viewed as a threat to anyone. The fact that people believe that it threatens them is due to Putin's propoganda. So, saying "see people think NATO is a threat" is not evidence that it actually is it is only evidence that there are people who have been sucked into the propoganda. It is a laughable circular argument that proves nothing other than it would be good to counter that propoganda with some facts and perhaps some counter propoganda.
  7. Ah I see what you meant. It is definitely not a game breaker and not a limitation persay. The design intent is to make the game behave like real life as much as possible. In real life the tank commander gives fire orders based on what they can see. They do not have the God's eye view that we have. I don't think that they will ever offer switches to pick ammo. The crew picks the appropriate ammo already. Smoke is a different target command but HE, AP, HEAT, APDS, etc is likely always going to be picked by the tac AI. Just my opinion of course.
  8. No, and yes. There is no general roe that say don't damage property but the secenario designer can set an objective to be preserve. If they do that you loose points if you damage buildings on the objective.
  9. I'm on mobile only so I cannot give you the link to the discussions about targeting limitations with buildings. If some one else has them, I have posted them before, they might come along and share them. I have a couple of comments and then depending on how this thread goes over the weekend I can add some more. I am not 100% sure what you are asking vs telling so forgive me if my comments miss the mark, let me know what I am missing: We usually call it area targeting. Tanks will use HE ammo automatically for area targeting, along with the MGs. Bocage will not be destroyed by direct fire HE. Artillery won't either but that is an engine limitation. In your secenario I would expect that you could target just infront of the bocage, not the wall, not the first story of the building (duh, wall blocks LOS), maybe the second story (see thread about issues with targeting buildings with partial Los in links I have not provided:-), you should be able to target the top floor of the building. Yes, shells targeted to the bocage will frequently travel through and strike the wall and then, once the wall is destroyed, the building.
  10. Wow, OK. Oddly enough I feel very relaxed about your post. I knew this kind of self important whining was the likely out come so I guess I was ready for it. In a phrase you reap what you sew. I kept my sarcasm to a minimum but your self righteous ranting, name calling and ignoring of basic facts probably deserved more. Which others delivered. I had been thinking perhaps that the fact that you didn't respond to my post might have meant you actually thought about a few things. LOL I guess not. You really seem to have issues man. I hope you find some inner peace.
  11. Oops I just realized you were referring to an ammo carrying team not a bren or universal carrier.
  12. Oh actually vehicles have ammo that is acquireable. If you load a squad into a truck (or split off a team to get into a carrier or jeep) they can use the acquire command to load up on ammo. That works regardless of the command structure.
  13. And they have to remain in proximity to each other. I believe within two action squares (16m) because you cannot use a command to move ammo between the squads what will happen is when a member of the squad without spare ammo runs out of ammo in their weapon they will automatically borrow a new clip from the close by squad and resume firing. Then when that clip is empty they will borrow another one. etc. So, they will never stock up on spare ammo.
  14. If you hover over a member's name or icon on the left hand side of the thread the Ignore User command appears in the middle of the dark footer in the popup. There is a place on your profile page where you can manage your ignore list as well.
  15. Sounds interesting. Do you need to give them a move command and the pause or is just the pause all by itself enough?
  16. IMHO it is best to ignore all posts from people that post wacky stuff like that (also the haters too). You cannot get your time back from reading crazy conspiracy theories and nor can you get your time back from doing the work to debunk that sh*t either. Life is precious, use your time to live it instead of dealing with crazy. My ignore list is not very long but my enjoyment of these forums is much higher when I don't have to read their stuff.
  17. I would not want to be standing around watching - just in case someone wants to complete the spare.
  18. You cannot. All that you can do is edit them and delete the content but the message stays. Also you can only edit your posts for a limited time after you post them.
  19. No you totally made the wrong choice and should buy CMBN too. Not what you wanted to here? I'm only kidding. The great thing about what BFC is doing is they upgrade older games with features as they improve the newer games. We just had a grand upgrade of all the titles at once (previously the upgrades came out staged) so right now all the games (OK the release of CMFI is delayed) are at the same feature level. So, no there are no different game play or mechanics that will make a difference. CMFB covers a time period later than CMBN so there are equipment differences. CMBN has modules and packs so it has a lot more content. As for maps they keep getting better and better. Some of the maps in CMBN are a bit flat but that is not a function of the game, engine, editor but a function of the map makers are getting better.
  20. Awesome thanks. That should cover me for the day.
  21. Care to share? You can post a drop box link here. Send me a PM for other ways to share. Whatever works. If it needs a password don't for get to say so. There have been and probably still are ways to get a team member to wonder off. Many of these bugs have been squashed as they have been found but they still come up from time to time. When that happens along with a embark or dismount order it will hang up the vehicle as well as the squad and remove the ability to cancel or adjust orders to boot. Yuck.
  22. There are three (no idea what they are really called). Pause, either pauses the currently selected unit or cancels an existing pause order. Cancel, which deletes all orders the selected unit has Evade, works as discussed. They are all useful at times in WEGO but Evade is the most useful by a long shot since it is the only one that cannot be done by other commands or keys.
  23. There is a chance, a small one, that I will regret doing this but I'll bite since some of what you have written is just so far off base that I would hate to have someone read it and think that there was any kind of agreement. I should start by saying, clearly you are frustrated and clearly things are not going well for you when you play. I hear your frustration. In my opinion your experience has more to do with being frustrated by not being able to be successful rather than the game. I am well aware that you will not like to hear this but: this game is hard, the AI and any human opponent is trying its best to kill your guys, this game is unforgiving, the fog of war causes confusion even with our god's eye view and things like relative spotting and realistic spotting can be very hard to understand (and sometimes take). Give your self a break it is hard. Having said that you have to learn to play better and get better at killing the other guys men. I'll comment on each of you points - but heavily clipped just so people can orient themselves to your original post but not need to re-read it. Expectation setting here: CMFI v4 upgrade is delayed but is going to be the same game engine as the others. If there end up being some additional fixes they will be bugs not whole sale redesign. So, don't think that CMFI v4 will play differently, be easier, be more forgiving. That is absolutely *not* true. The AI is bound by the same 1 minute turns just like you are. You can see this if you play in scenario author mode you can actually watch the orders that the AI gives to its troops - just like you. What you are seeing is the Tac AI which controls the men during each minute of WEGO (and during the execution of orders in RT). That Tac AI, which is the same AI that is controlling your men does react to what happens. Sometimes orders are even abandoned. So, in summary you give your orders, the AI gives its orders and then the Tac AI controls all the troops as they execute those orders during the nest minute. Your orders get the same treatment as the AI's. During the turn your men can react, interdict the enemy, fail to execute, abandon orders just as likely as the AI's troops. There is no AI advantage. None. If you think you are seeing an advantage its because you are perceiving things incorrectly - frequently called observation bias. We tend to remember when bad stuff happens to our orders and fail to appreciate the times they went right or the times our guys got the better of the enemy with equal weight. Or the other possibility is our orders suck We have all made bad choices and given poorly thought out orders - and paid the price. Summary: not even real. Yeah, that can happen occasionally. I have to admit that I have see that happen but I play a lot (5-6 PBEM turns per day plus testing vs the AI) and this happens once a month or so. When it does I take responsibility to adjust things. I have a couple of additional thoughts: On not being able to see what you thought you could: Yeah that is a game limitation. What is happening is the target tool shows what your unit can see from the selected way point based on the stance of your unit now and based on a summary of what can possibly be seen from the centre of the action square. For example, if you have a unit that is currently hiding in a tall grass field they are currently prone. If you then plot a way point across a field to a wall and then test what they can target from there you will find they can see nothing. Once they complete that move they will likely take up kneeling positions behind the wall and be able to see and target into the next field even though the target tool said you had no LOS. Or in more complex terrain once your men actually pick their locations in the action square they might not be able to see a target that they could have seen if they picked a different spot. This is the kind of thing that can result in what you are seeing. I now you think that is bad but really choices have made and that is the design. Over the years people have cooked up various proposals for controlling the source height of the LOS too and the target height of the LOS tool but the problem is it makes things to complex and creates a UI that is hard to manage. When you play you have to be aware of this kind of stuff and learn the times it is more or less likely and learn how to tweak orders to get what you want. On not automatically adjusting position to achieve LOF to the enemy: LOL if our units automatically moved even 8m from where we told them to let along further there would the cries of the game is broken. OMG my men exposed themselves to enemy fire when I didn't want them to. Summary: limitation. The micromanagement and UI manipulation requirements to make this "better" are way out of proportion to the benefit for such a rarely encountered problem. Also not going to change. Yeah so. This is our god's eye view making us think we should be able to things that just would not happen. Sure there probably were times when tanks and MGs fired into smoke but how effective would that have really been. This is just such small potatoes and again really does not happen game very often. Not to mention think about the real life orders the tank commanders would be giving. Their gunners cannot see anything, they never saw the retreating enemy even before the smoke arrived so the TC has to give them something to aim relative to. Not that easy really when there is smoke around. You are doing it wrong - don't stick around to see what KO's your tanks. Get them to take a better position while the smoke clears - they they will be the ones doing the killing once the smoke clears. Summary: is this even a real problem - don't think so. Sorry Yes it does. I have run into the same type of story you describe. I have found that applying HE to enemy positions is devastating. Forget suppression I usually kill the enemy. Summary: you must be doing it wrong - yeah more apologies Multi team squads spread out. They do. If you don't want them to you have to split them up. Teams look for the path of least resistance so will sometimes come out of the woods, ditch etc. head into the field and then back at the end. Here is what you do: split the squad. Give them move orders that are short and follow one side of the fence, ditch etc. then they will not wonder off (the odd guy might jump the fence here and there - meh). Summary: its how the game works - you can control it if you use different orders. Not going to change - you have to. LOL I wish my AT gun crews would do that when they get down to one crew member. Sure, it can theoretically happen and clearly does occasionally. This is not average behaviour. This is *not* happening to you every time. Heck it is not happening to you even remotely regularly. Summary: not even real Right. This is the way the game is designed. Sorry it bugs you so much. Summary: long standing way it is built not likely to change. Yeah that would be awesome. This has been requested before. One of the problems of course is that since TRPs are magically available for all firers and all callers. Adding this would be much to powerful. Which means it would need to come after a total rework of the artillery system to address your issues mentioned above. Summary: maybe some day. But don't hold your breath - because you might die
