  1. Except from what I understand the official demo will probably come out within 24 hours of the full game, so there won't be much point in getting it. I am talking like a micro-demo I guess lol, just begging for scraps here.
  2. Well, obviously they know more about than I do, I was just thinking in terms of large scale battles, where there is a lot going on under the hood. Those battles could certainly use as many processor cycles as they can get. Don't pay any attention to me though, I don't have anything to do this weekend so I'm just rambling
  3. Just give us one platoon of infantry and a tank for each side, just one map even, and we will be distracted for days while you get everything polished and ready.
  4. I would say dual-core is the bare minimum these days for a new PC or laptop. I just glanced over on newegg.com, the only computers not running dual-core or greater are super cheap netbooks, and even most of them have dual-cores. I just upgraded to quad-core myself. Will Bulge, Eastern Front, etc. all be single core, because by the time they come out a game without multicore support will definitely be behind the curve. Maybe with the funds from CMBN you guys can find some way to get it implemented, whatever that entails. I can't help but think that CPU power is the main bottleneck for CMx2 and without multicore support the engine can't reach its full potential.
  5. I used to play paintball a lot in the summer, but haven't in years. If nothing else it taught me an appreciation for just how quickly you can become dehydrated and fatigued on a "battlefield", even if you are in decent shape. I also learned just how effective simple fire-and-maneuver tactics are against untrained opponents. I used the old suppress and flank to great effect on many occasions. My worst memory was when I took cover by laying down in some tall grass, only to discover that that odd tickling feeling on my stomach was a few thousand fire ants, upset with me for crushing their mound. I stripped down to my underwear right there in the middle of a firefight to knock them off. I had 123 (I counted) fire ant stings around my waist.
  6. I'm 23, way down on the young end of the spectrum around here. I started playing CM games somewhere between the release of CMBB and CMAK.
  7. Yes, that step is how do I get it on my Kindle if it isn't a PDF? The Kindle is good for a lot of things but going to websites is not one of them.
  8. Wait, I just glanced at this earlier and now realize there is no option to download as a PDF, unless I am missing it. Don't want to sound like a whiner, but reading small print like this on my PC gives me a headache after awhile.
  9. I just put the manual for DCS: A-10C on my Kindle, but it's going on the back burner to make room for this bad boy. I love my Kindle, it renewed my passion for reading that I lost when I started college.
  10. I'm kinda glad it's apparently getting pushed back a bit, I have finals this week and next so I don't really need the distraction. I have just stopped coming to these boards. Well, I still check once a day for demo/release, wouldn't want to miss out. It's like when you are waiting in class or something, time moves slower if you keep looking at the clock.
  11. CMBO will (the GOG version at least). CMSF and CMA, obviously I have the discs for CMBB and CMAK but haven't installed them since I upgraded to Win 7. Not much help but I'm sure others will be along to add more.
  12. I was bored and started playing IL-2 1946 last week, since I recently upgraded my PC and can now run it maxed out. That was fun and then I saw MS Flight Simulator X at wal-mart for cheap and picked it up. It was much more fun than I imagined. Then I decided my 12 year old joystick (Logitech Wingman, which had seen me through dozens of various campaigns across all known gaming universes) couldn't cut it anymore, what with it's inability to turn left reliably. This all just got me worked up into a flight sim lather and... I now have coming in the mail: Saitek x52 joystick+throttle, Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, DCS: A-10C, and the crown jewel: a Track IR 5 Thanks a lot Battlefront, due to your slowness in releasing CMBN I have dove right off the deep end into flight simulators and blown all my summer gaming funds in one fell swoop. Not that I'm complaining, soon I will be able to pilot an A-10C Warthog, or at least start the engine, maybe
  13. I'm running Crossfire with HD 5770s, smooth sailing across the board in CMSF. Only slowdown comes from my CPU but I have an i7 in the mail so that won't be a problem much longer
  14. I just started the Road to Dinas campaign and it is great, a real change of pace and a decent storyline to go with it. Really makes you appreciate the Javelins. ATGMs are okay, but can't compare to the zero setup time and 95% accuracy of those Javs.
  15. I just tested this in CMSF and here is what happens: 1) You give a blast order on the far side of the wall: They will breach the wall and immediately move through, and set up on the other side. 2) You give a blast order on the near side of the wall: They will breach the wall and then move around a bit but stay on their side, facing through the hole. 3) You give a blast order on either side, followed by a movement order in any direction/distance. They will move to the blast order and wait a few seconds, but then the order changes to a movement order, and they just move to the next point without breaching the wall. I guess this is a bug, since ideally you might want to breach the wall and then immediately pull back. Edit: This was all in RT
  16. Thanks for posting yet another video! I haven't watched it all the way through yet, studying for an exam so I just jumped around it some. Again I am impressed with the variety and quality of the map design, everything feels really compressed here just like you would imagine from descriptions of the bocage fighting, everything is so up close and personal. Can't wait to play!
  17. I always prefer Elite, not being able to see your other units when you select one is just annoying and I don't really see the point of it, since you can just deselect and see them again. What are the actual differences between Iron and Elite besides that?
  18. Looking better all the time! A couple little things though: 1) The artillery request audio is the same from CMSF, kinda breaks the immersion for people who have played it. Is that just a placeholder for beta? I remember a comment saying the Germans didn't have any in the other video because it hadn't been added yet in that build. 2) ..I had something else but I forgot, guess it wasn't too important. Good things: Being able to pick the map for QB, allows for a lot more flexibility since I like to play with small to medium forces but enjoy large maps as well. Avoids the problem of getting the same map repeatedly also. Map looked great as well, lots of variety so far. He said that the attackers can see some of the defender's positions during setup. Can we get a little more detail on that? Like do you just see some question marks where the defending forces are concentrated? I think it makes a lot of sense, in real life you would have some idea where they are, and not just attack blindly. Loved the foxholes and how you can deploy AT guns in among them. The smoke looked really good, the AI made effective use of artillery, lots of other little things.
  19. I have played a lot of CMSF in the last few weeks and can't recall any clipping at all, definitely nothing that bad. Most likely a freak occurrence. The vehicles bumping into each other does happen occasionally but can be avoided if you are paying attention. Usually I only see it when I'm being lazy and give 5+ vehicles the same move orders and the lines get all criss-crossed.
  20. And just to add to this: Your troops can use those craters for cover, in CMSF some of the heavier airstrikes can leave a crater big enough for multiple squads to hide in. I would call that some pretty serious terrain deformation!
  21. Can't you already throw grenades out of, into, and within buildings in CMSF? I'm pretty sure you can.
  22. Don't worry, I came in here and saw your post, thinking we were ahead of the curve and typed up a big response. Posted it, saw the sticky and immediately deleted it. I admit to it, I left a fellow noob behind.
  23. Looks amazing, especially the second map, with all the nice trees, water, and a little village just waiting to get blown away. It looks like you could take maps and photographs and faithfully recreate just about any location in Normandy. I haven't been giddy like this about a game in a long time. It looks every bit as good as I imagined, and the action is, dare I say it, like watching Call of Duty (1 & 2) on a grand scale. The bocage terrain really makes things interesting: big fields mixed with tiny ones and little pockets of cover all over the place. While the vast expanses of CMSF offered a unique tactical challenge, they often limited your overall strategic choices, I don't see that being a problem here at all. For what its worth, I didn't think the tanks rocking back was excessive, even if it isn't 100% accurate, I think we can make an exception here for what ends up being a very nice effect that adds some fluidity to the action. This game is just begging for some multiplayer action, the AI is adequate but clearly a human player could have exploited that vulnerable left flank in the first scenario. But it appeared to be a good match on the second one, with a more central objective. Needless to say, I had been really hoping for some gameplay footage and here we got not just a few minutes worth, but two full scenarios!
  24. I would have to say that this forum has a bit different tone than most and new posters should tread lightly, but then again these games are definitely not targeted at your average internet forum crowd. A mature, polite post will work out, even if everyone disagrees with you. Silly insults and a hostile attitude will not get you very far. Just my observations as a long time lurker, newly switched to active poster mode.
  25. I would humbly submit my name for a possible spot in this tournament. I know my post count is quite low, but I'm a long time lurker. I remember following a couple of these tournaments and reading the AAR's. Alas, I was but a young lad then and too scared to play a single match against anyone for fear of getting utterly destroyed, much less trying to enter a tournament. Perhaps some kind of "new guys" tournament should be organized, with the top players earning a slot? If we are needed at all, that is.
