  1. This idea has some real merit, think of it like the "go codes" from the Rainbow Six games (well, the old ones). You could assign units to a group and give the group a "hold until released" command. Then every unit gets its orders and you hit go. I don't see why you couldn't use this for multiple groups as well. This doesn't make the game less RT it would just give us better tools. In real life a company commander wouldn't order an attack one squad at a time, he would create a plan, and have every squad involved execute the plan at the same time.
  2. There was another thread where Moon suspected that it has to do with the new DRM setup. Doubt we will see a fix for this.
  3. When you click a unit, all of the others in its platoon will have their icons lit up. If you double click it will select all of them. If you select any HQ it will highlight everything under its command.
  4. Didnt those AT guns have a key or maybe just the firing pin that the crew would always take with them if they had to abandon the gun? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
  5. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that your servers are faulty. I was just saying that it was my own mistake for not using a download manager, especially when you guys provide multiple choices right there on the download page. I'm just a Valve fanboy and plug Steam everywhere I go.
  6. Ah that might explain it. Oh well the alt-tabbing with CMBN is very solid so you can still use the chat box in the background, just no convenient ingame Steam overlay.
  7. Hmm I don't have CMBN downloaded yet but I know that CMSF works with it. Hope there is a fix since the chat makes it a lot easier to coordinate MP games. Really odd considering that even CMx1 games work with Steam, BF you didn't sabatoge it to get back at us for nagging y'all about selling CM through Steam, did you?
  8. Yep, should have been using one of the download managers from the start. Guess I'm a bit spoiled by Steam, no fear of corruption or losing download progress, even if its a 10 GB+ game. Not saying you need to put the game on there, just FYI.
  9. Nooo, after 3 hours of downloading, I closed my Firefox window and for some reason it decided that I also wanted to close the download window and killed the download at 80%. Grr, well guess I won't get to play tonight.
  10. Quarter of the way there, at least I will get to play some tonight, if not much. I agree that if the email was intended to be secret, it should have said so in the title or something. When I opened it all I saw was a big mush of un-formated text that I didn't bother to read. If it had had one of those "Loose lips sink ships" propaganda posters, photoshopped to include CMBN somehow, it could have made all the difference.
  11. I can only download at 60 kb/sec anyway, so it doesn't really matter for me how many people are downloading. It's gonna be a while regardless. At least have the Mavs vs Thunder game to keep me entertained for a few hours.
  12. Perfect timing, enroute to my house right now. ...er I mean its just the BF newsletter email, just want to read it on my PC screen. Nothing to see here folks.
  13. Set one up and I bet plenty of people will help flesh it out. If there was one game where I would help with a wiki this is it.* *No guarantees
  14. I'm pretty sure you can't do anything like that currently. I would like to see it by the time we get the Eastern Front game, since by all of the accounts I have read it was pretty common to crush trenches and foxholes with tanks as part of a Russian attack.
  15. I thought that there was an update to CMSF at one point that addressed this, but it doesn't seem to be the case. One time in CMSF I had a team targeting a building and then moved them into it without canceling the target order. When they got there it turned into the 4th of July, I'm not sure if they were shooting at the floor or in random directions, but they put on quite a show. There were grenades and tracers and rockets flying all over that room they were in.
  16. Well I think that's the idea, not that you are just contesting the crossroads but that it is totally secure, and safe to pass through.
  17. I believe the Target command is the only way to see LOS and hull down. Edit: I just wanted to check this before I steered you wrong, but you can indeed check LOS from a plotted waypoint before a unit gets there by clicking on it. The line will still come from the unit itself but the color will indicate the LOS from the chosen waypoint.
  18. Generally I think "touch" objectives will give you a little message and disappear, like the phase lines in the Busting the Bocage scenario. Something like "Such-and-such unit has located Phase Line Blue." Once you get that they are completed. Many other objectives will require you to occupy the highlighted area by having direct control of it with at least one of your units at the end of the mission. Might want to consult the briefing for whichever scenario you are playing, it should give specifics on what you need to do.
  19. After not staying up quite long enough for the demo release, I shall be pulling a late nighter this evening.
  20. Just tried this against a human, did not go so well. My infantry got a bit bogged down and then the arty rain came. That and half his tanks came up that road on the left side. My biggest mistake was that I just hit the whole village with my 105 to make him think I was coming up the middle. He expected the same and had moved his forces over to that edge of the town Had I pasted those buildings I might have been able to rush right into town since my guys made it to the bridge area just fine. Total loss for me although we had similar casualties, he was holding all of the objectives at the end.
  21. Yes this is a real problem, especially when an AT gun ammo bearer is spotted, giving away the position of your perfectly concealed tank ambush. Generic "Infantry" labels are the way to go on higher difficulty levels. One more for "the list"
  22. Seems like most of the naysayers are stuck in the "back in my day our squads of infantry were rendered as 3 lego men, and WE LIKED IT!" kind of attitude. They just need to give CMx2 a chance and they will see how much better it is. Guys like me are just itching to play the game and coming up with things to complain about in the meantime.
  23. At the very least there should be a fix for the instances where a unit gets turned back from an advance and then just sits in one spot for the rest of the battle. Or like in the Barkman's (?) Corner AAR where one of the Shermans broke through and just sat in one spot, doing nothing since it had reached its objective. A reset timer of some sort, or maybe a function where any units in a certain area of the map receive new orders at X time. Just something to give the system more flexibility.
  24. Just give him a "Face" order in the direction you want him to look and he will move right to the windows. Also remember that in CMx2, units can only see and fire out of windows that are actually there. They can also only use the doors that you actually see to enter and exit buildings, which becomes very important in urban combat.
  25. Okay I went and found it and got to that part. I take back that they did it regularly, but in this one case they did indeed start off an attack by climbing right over a full sized 8-12 ft hedgerow. In other places he talks about crawling through and hopping over the hedgerows, without indicating their size, as if they were fairly porous to infantry. Certainly the little gaps we see in CMBN are very realistic, and should be found in just about every line of hedgerows. If only to abstract thin spots if not actual gaps. There is also a part where he talks about his unit briefly engaging a group of White Russian cavalry (yes, on horses), I dare ask, will this be modeled in CMBN? . He also claims to have run into a small number of Japanese troops in full Japanese uniform, surely for the sake of realism they will be in? (once again)
