  1. Are you guys using AVG Anti-Virus? Go into the options and turn off "Use Heuristics" Exact same thing happened to me and that was the problem. All I did was turn that off and reboot, problem solved. Hope it works for you too.
  2. Even though CMBN won't be offered on steam, you can use it for one of it's best features. You will be able to run CMBN through steam and just hit shift+tab while in game to instantly pull up your friends list, web browser, chat rooms, etc. Hit shift+tab again and it goes away. It's a pretty handy little feature, especially for setting up multiplayer games or just chatting while playing vs AI. I know it works with CMSF so I imagine it will with CMBN as well. I don't get why you guys are so down on steam anyway, if not for Valve there are tons of indie games that would never get publicity. They also host dozens of mods for free, including mods for games they didn't make.
  3. I think some sort of simple exchange screen would work perfect for this, just two lists of stuff that you can move to one side or the other. Or just a "store" button next to the acquire button, that works exactly the same way, but moves stuff from the squad to the vehicle.
  4. Does this work in CMSF too? What if, say, you have a Javelin team that runs out of ammo, can they stand by a squad with Javelin missiles (who lack a launcher) and use them? I guess while I'm on a similar topic, if you have a squad "acquire" something from a vehicle, is there a way to put it back? There have been a couple times where I figured I would make a two man HQ team into a Javelin team, but I accidentally clicked the 2x Javelin missiles, which meant they were now full and couldn't carry the launcher itself. There seems to be no way to put the missiles back. A "d'oh" moment if there ever was one (and I have done this several times).
  5. Battlefront doesn't want you taking away customers from all of their games involving alternate reality/historical fantasy/parallel universes/dinosaur based warfare. Okay, I'll go back to lurking now
  6. I like the camera controls in CMSF pretty well, one thing I would like is the option to click with the middle mouse (well, mouse wheel for me) to jump across the map (same as ctrl+left click) so I don't have to reach over to the ctrl key (lazy, I know). What I would really like would be a setup where you use WASD to move the camera and hold RMB to rotate, shift to speed up camera, mouse wheel for elevation, and just use space bar menu to issue orders. You would be able to do 95% of things without moving either hand around.
  7. Er, what happens if, say, a patch doesn't install right or something and we have to do a fresh install? I had that happen with CMSF where something went wrong and all my unit names were messed up (some had names like Stug III or Parachute, no idea what happened). And then recently an update to AVG decided that the NATO module was a virus and deleted it, prompting a fresh install. Besides that I plan to install the game on two PCs (laptop and desktop) so you can see where 4 becomes a rather uncomfortable number for me. Will you make allowances for those types of possibilities, or would I have to wait a year to play the game?
  8. Long time lurker here, made a few posts recently though. I actually had stopped coming here last year, but then some instinctive force called me back, where I discovered CMBN mere months from release.
  9. Sooo...I hear they have this thing called youtube on the internets now *wink wink nudge nudge*
  10. While I enjoy the campaigns of CMSF, my heart yearns from some QB goodness every time I fire it up. However, I know when I click the button that there's a 50/50 chance the forces will be unbalanced and not even close to what I wanted (last attempt resulted in one side having three tank platoons and the other not having any at all, despite mirrored settings) So basically yes I will go straight into QB and set up a nice little company sized combined arms battle with mirrored-ish forces. The real question is which side to play as first...
  11. This makes me think of the Dawn to Setting Sun campaign for CMSF, in the third mission you only have infantry and must cross about 100m of open field at the beginning while under fire from across the map. Things went well at first, but despite my cover fire one man in the last group got hit, right in the middle of the field. I honestly felt bad for him because I knew I couldn't send anyone out there in time to help him. Just seeing that one body all alone on the ground was pretty powerful.
  12. Could you guys recommend a good book about armor/combined forces tactics in WW2, that doesn't get overly technical? All of these little nuances really fascinate me.
  13. Yay, I finally have a group worth joining on steam, no more loneliness
  14. Same thing just happened to me, came here fearing I had some kind of exotic problem but looks to be pretty common and thankfully has an easy fix.
  15. Lurker here but I have it ordered and can't wait to smell that 200 page manual. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
  16. A couple weeks ago I decided to play the Afghanistan demo on a whim and was really impressed with how much more polished it seemed than the last time I played CMSF (when Marines came out) so I patched up CMSF and it discovered that it was indeed much improved. It was like playing the game you imagined it would be back in 2007. Long story short I picked up the module pack and couldn't be happier. I have not seen my troops do anything suicidal or defy gravity or any of the other problems from the early versions.
  17. I usually lurk here and haven't been to the forum in well over a year but I just started playing CMSF again for the first time since before the Marines module came out and simply must say it is like playing totally different game, everything works as it should and runs nicely. It really feels like I''m playing the game as it was meant to be from the start. I even picked up the module bundle so that I can get all those new toys and campaigns. Seeing how well the engine runs now I simply can't wait for CMBN.
