  1. I'll run another test tomorrow where the preserve zones encompass multiple buildings unless someone beats me to it
  2. Here's the results of a quick test All buildings were worth 100pts each for preserve 1 has a blown out wall 2 took some 25mm rounds to its front but not blown out walls 3 Has the roof caved in 4 is totally destroyed
  3. I'm still not buying it Back in the day PBEM files for CMBB/CMAK would have been "huge" too Personally I don't care if the data transfer stage takes 5 minutes, its still going to be quicker than PBEM
  4. I fail to see why it would take so much coding We already have the TCP/IP protocols We already have WEGO All they need to do is send that file down the TCP/IP protocols, I would imagine this can't take THAT much coding Of course if someone from BF would care to explain why i am wrong . . . .
  5. This depends on equipment quality, it can be 1-3 M32 per squad
  6. on point number 1 its due to the fact that there are no civilian elements shown in game however VBIEDs are basically civilian. All the KO'd taxis and pickups you see in game are essentially still military units, if a game doesn't have them you have to imagine civilian vehicles parked up, this effect we're seeing there is just an unfortunate side effect of not being able to explicitly model civilian units
  7. VIEDs are one of the few units that get a stealth bonus depending on the civilian density. As civilian units are not displayed in game units that are disguised as civilians (spies, IED teams etc) are invisible until spotted (like any other unit really) however in high civilian density scenarios spotting them becomes really difficult. Having said that in that mission really civilian density should be nil so I think you must have just got really unlucky by not spotting it beforehand
  8. An opinion with quite a bit of merit IMO (OT Slightly) I would like to see a to contact option on all the current movement orders and hunt could become the CMx1 style hunt that it used to be Also I think the reload option is a good idea, doesn't seem to matter that much for squads as they seem to time their reloading quite well most times but for GMG, MG teams etc it'd be pretty useful, for example i started a PBEM with some syrian AGLs and they all seemed to start off with a clip of 3 rounds for some reason which meant they had to reload seconds after firing their first shots
  9. Just my $0.02, never really noticed that many survivers after levelling buildings, however I have noticed that airbursts are really ineffective against rooftops
  10. Because you want to start a trade war at the time when your economy is at its worst state in 80+ years, way to bring about the great depression 2
  11. Ok so the main point I seem to be taking away is that CMSF is an accurate enough portayal if the allies decided not to use their air power so overwhelmingly : ) I'd still like my first question answered if anyone know though lol
  12. More like 40 : ) I have premier, I might make it on a shortish mission, I'd need to do text commentary though as i don't have a mic
  13. So i guess this question has morphed into Am I making an unfair comparison between Syria (at least as portrayed in CMSF) and 2003 Iraq?
  14. Also I'm surprised how little you use the target light order, you never seem to run out of HE though which i almost always do even with target light commands Although I will say I learn't to use the target light command with the british, you're forced to learn how to suppress with MGs and not HE with those forces : )
  15. Well in the second mission we came out with about the same WIA/KIA stats, so you obviously play really well even when you're entire focus isn't on the mission itself, although I suppose having to explain your actions might make you think about them a bit more. I'm curious, do you record the commentary as you play or after? I've thought about doing these myself but the editing work for WEGO would be horrendous : )
  16. I guess I'm too much of an information freak, I tend to watch the whole map once, then zoom in and watch again any areas where something interesting goes off : )
  17. Ah yes, I did mean to put in the little caveat of AT-14s, T-90s and BMP-3s aside ; ) But I have had that thought before, that we over generalise by comparing Iraq and Syria just because they are side by side
  18. Yes I was meaning realistic in terms of outcomes than neccessarily techniques. Yes the Illusion of reality is amazing in CMSF but I find it becomes broken when I see blue troops dropping dead left right and centre, perhaps it's due to me being a product of a generation that has only had "clean" wars with very few casualties (for our side anyway)
  19. Well I'll still be playing CMx1 until the last eastern front module comes out ; ) I don't think the CMx2 engine is inherently smaller in scope than the Cmx1, apart from the fact you'd need a beast of a computer to play a battalion level assault mission
  20. Ok so whenever we start comparing CMSF to real life, the natural comparison point is the invasion of Iraq, similar environment, TOE and an enemy which is made up mainly of poor quality conscripts backed up with a core of well trained rebuplican guards. So roughly how many engagements were there in Iraq that would be worthy of being a CM scenario (are we talking tens, hundreds, thousands?) and how many did the ground troops turn up at the scene to find the enemy already blown to smithereens and on fire from the air force and just keep rolling on, maybe firing a few shots to mop up the survivors. This is all bringing me back to the casualty rates in some scenarios, I can't remember the figures off the top of my head (and some quick googleing doesn't shed any light) but even at 10 KIA per mission it wouldn't take many missions to get up to the invasion casualty figures (i'm not of course counting the occupation, just the invasion)
  21. Just to say i'm really enjoying these ones, i've skipped ahead to the later ones as ive only played 2 missions in the german campaign so far so want to have forgot the details by the time i've got round to playing them I must say though your playing style does make me cringe sometimes as I'm a wego player and you set off an assault then move accross the map to look at something else! I always find myself nearly shouting "what if they get massacred!?!?" but it seems to work for you and is entertaining : )
  22. One of the few situations where the warrior excels at, now if only we could get them to carry more than 50 HE rounds they might be good at MOUT : )
  23. I believe that is stated in the manual somewhere, can't really be bothered to go find it though
  24. On a slightly related note, I sent some troops into a building in the first mission of the german campaign that was close to collapse, some errant marder fire was enough to collapse the building, fortunately all that happened was one out of the 4 man team became lightly wounded, until a grenade found its way into the rubble : ( Might be worth testing how building collapses themselves affect troops by nearly demolishing the building, sending troops in and then just tipping it over the edge with a small calibre gun. I remember in CMx1 being inside a building that collapsed was allways bad news
