I hit the forums maybe 25-35 times a day. The home page with Mac logo still makes me giddy. And yes, guilty as charged ... every time I hit the home page I think I see a demo download badge.

Quick update on release status
DaveyJJ replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This week? That's what the gamerswithjobs.com article said (what he'd been told by BF). What day? We'll find out when it happens. -
Upgrading my computer for this game.
DaveyJJ replied to DLaurier's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I use various 23-27" Dell monitors, Samsung, and Philips around the office and I'm pretty happy with all of them. If I had to choose only one, I'd probably pick the nice Samsung I have attached to my laptop at work. -
Round stone buildings in the game?
DaveyJJ replied to mjkerner's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Aren't late medieval two-storey dovecotes also round? Smaller scale than an actual building, I know, but as flavour objects. Or are these only found in the UK? -

2301 Central European Time on May 8 is my guess re: Steve's cryptic remark. -
When will the Demo arrive?
DaveyJJ replied to tiger123's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
As did the author of the gamerswithjobs.com article, who took time to reiterate that fact on these very forums. But what day this week? -
Will Bagpipes make it into Cw module ?
DaveyJJ replied to sonar's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Ugh. They keep piping all of my relatives out at the cemetery ... uncle, grandpa, shudder. Eventually the uncle who plays will kick off and that'll end that tradition. I guess it's replaced having to hire professional mourners who wailed at Roman funerals ... sound's about the same, however. -
This. Most company sized actions from my readings took place in a lot tighter space than the OP seems to think. 400m and under in many cases, so even a 400m-700m square map should present lots of tactical challenge for those us who will be creating smaller scale, historical actions. That's what I'll be attempting to bring my cartography skills to, anyway. Crickey. To even make a well designed map of that scale would take far too long for me to even think about.

Is this the game for seniors?
DaveyJJ replied to Cymru's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
If they did, and they have inherited even a small part of my late-father-in-law's courage (8th British, 2nd Polish Corps, 5th Kresowa Infantry Division ... awarded the Polish Cross of Valour for an act of outstanding bravery on the field of battle in late 1944 Italy), they might manage OK. I hope they never have to prove themselves though, except with a second copy of CMBN in the house against dad. -

Did I miss the pre-order page for the first module? I'm ready to buy that too, right now!

Is this the game for seniors?
DaveyJJ replied to Cymru's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Ha, ha. I do the same with wife my wife and kids in the car. I keep asking my kids, "So, if you had a platoon of infantry in those woods and a heavy machine gun for support, how would you get you guys over that open field and take that farmhouse." My wife just rolls her eyes. Yet my kids always respond with something like ... "Well, fire-fix-flank-finish, dad. Pin them down, and then maybe move two squads along the fence and hedges in the back there and assault the farmhouse. Are there any mortars for support?" I can't tell you how proud that makes me feel. -
A lot of old timers coming back
DaveyJJ replied to Nidan1's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I was going to suggest Sniper! by SPI. -
Mapmakers Report For Duty
DaveyJJ replied to Sgt Schultz's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
For me? Until the Commonwealth forces come out in the expansion I'll be creating semi-historical, small scale battles. A lot of infantry stuff, with the occasional foray into tiny drabs of armour support. Tactics tactics tactics will win the scenarios. After the Commonwealth expansion hits it'll be Canadian skirmishes and battles from Juno onwards, starting with Putot-en-bessin and through to Operation Totalize etc. In both cases using historic maps and photos to generally get most stuff right (again, with some minor changes to maybe makes stuff a bit more fun), as well as unit accounts. -
Quick update on release status
DaveyJJ replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Thanks very much for the update, Steve. So post-May 6. Hmm. I have the 10th booked off work to get my new 6x6 fence posts in the back yard, be nice if I had something to relax with that evening. -
What I'm looking forward to (coming from CMx1)
DaveyJJ replied to TexasToast's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
That's funny. I set my "CMBN" Dropbox folder up a week ago anticipating this very need. -
It's now within 21-69 hours based on my posting time of that cat pic. Right? Right? I mean, purpheart23's gottta be right?

As long as XXX Corps doesn't run into 88s by the side of the road blowing their leads tanks to kingdom come. That would simply turn it into a re-run.

May 8th - VE Day...it gotta be then
DaveyJJ replied to heckler_rider's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yup, Steve (I think) referred to the demo release as "a shot across the bow" and that the real thing would follow very soon after. -
Just wanted to hurry the process along.

disapointing morning......
DaveyJJ replied to G B Scurlock's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I assume it's members starting to drown their weekend away so that the sting of not being able to play CMBN this weekend will be lessened and they can awake groggily Monday morning with fresh new enthusiasm? -
Appears there's no game lobby mechanism
DaveyJJ replied to Johnny Canuck's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
When I get CMBN I'd be up for that sort of game. It'd be 10PM my time but I often have 60-90 minutes then while my wife watches some inane show and complains that I play inane games. -

"To "purchase" a unit doubleclick on it or, alternatively, single-click to highlight ..." Inconsistent use of "doubleclick" and "single-click" Suggest using "double-click" with a hyphen for consistency. (I've found the words "doubleclick" and "single-click" now in a number of places. One or the other need to change to match the other, I'd prefer the hyphenated version, speaking for myself, so a FIND ALL is needed during the next round of editing.) Page 52 ... last word ...
