  1. I have folders within my mods folder. The neatest way of doing it, is to use rezpack to turn them into .brz files. But that is time consuming (maybe I can make a rezpacker/exploder with the mod manager???). I have a mix of .brz files, .wav's, .bmp's, and some folders. They all seem to work for me. What will NOT work is putting zip and rar files in there. All mods must be unzipped. As far as what Rich12545 said, I never did that and all of my mods still work fine. Glad it's working for you though!!! It takes a little while to get it all set up but once you do it makes life much easier! Take care, and have fun with all the great mods out there!
  2. AHA! Take the ' out of Mord's. In visual basic, ' stops the code. Just rename the files without the '. I know that is one of the problems. If there are no ' in the file name, then I'm not sure. I'll have to think about that.
  3. Does this happen when you click Add, Add All, or Double-click? You can try all 3 ways. Make sure you have all macros enabled and that you trust the app. If you happen to have Access, not the runtime, go into vba mode and make sure you have 6 references checked under the Tools menu. If none of those things work, tell me the exact error message and I'll look it up.
  4. I've played mission 1 many times also. I usually keep my dudes on the berm with my apc's who are just ammo crates with wheels. Then fan my tanks through the gap. I've noticed that some of the tanks near the bunkers are difficult to see. If I remember correctly, without actually checking for sure before posting this, that there may be some lower terrain over there that's hard to notice. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Just manually target the tanks.
  5. I have to agree with MikeGER. In the context of cmsf, it would be lopsided to pit a tank platoon against a bunch of civilians. But... why can't you have a platoon of IDF infantry get isolated from their armor and heavy weapons getting surrounded and ambushed by a company sized element of hamas fighters. You don't even have to make the hamas guys conscripts either; after all, they are trained from toddlers in insurgent warfare. Make them veteran rating at least. You can even give them mortars (which they have). All it takes is a little imagination. Ali-Baba, I appreciate your good nature. I generally feel the same, but these wars we simulate are the same anywhere, any time. Every day there is a war going on somewhere with soldiers and civilians alike getting shot and blown up. Unfortunately, that is just the way it is. The Napoleanic wars caused just as much bloodshed and misery as Israel vs the arabs. War is ugly, whether fought with missiles or rocks, it's no good. But if you ever find yourself leading a platoon of men through the mean streets of some ungodly craphole town somewhere or even fighting off some ungodly troops who are invading your ungodly town, your cmsf tactical knowhow just may save your life! (it could happen)
  6. Maybe I can help you get it to work. What is the issue?
  7. No, this game simulates war. Tons of wars and battles have been recreated in a game environment, whether on boards, computers, historical reenactments, etc. This war is no different from any other. Terrible as ever. If there are any close battles, you can bet it will be simulated in some way. I, in no way, want to disrespect or dishonor anyone, I'm more interested in the tactics and gameplay. It's like a complex chess game. Putting it in a realworld or believable situation makes it that much more tense for me. I wouldn't be so into the game if the soldiers were green monsters tossing flognords and casting spells at each other. I would rather simulate something a little closer to reality. But hey, that's just me.
  8. Every minute of every day, someone's shooting at someone else, so does that mean we shouldn't play cmsf? Since hamas does have weapons, including small arms, mg's, rpg's, and artillery (unlike the jews of the warsaw ghetto), I think it could be modeled in cmsf. You just just have to use a little imagination with the blue forces.
  9. Yes, it's not REAL, but quite good. I challenge anyone to show me a game with better!
  10. Using the tripod helps a great deal. But still, as Apocal stated, can be unstable. The tripods need to be set up properly (we usually sandbagged the feet) in order to keep it stable. One thing though, vehicle mounts aren't always that good. I fired a .50 from a hmmwv a couple times. It actually caused the truck's suspension to tilt back a bit! An armored vehicle probably wouldn't move at all. (If this hummer's a rockin', don't come a knockin'!). Free gunning is a different story. Free gunning a .50 cal is not precision work. Sucker will not stay on target. If you're free gunning, you're probably either getting ambushed or you're goofing off. The SAW on the other hand, has the bipod. Still not as stable as a tripod, but also less recoil than the larger mg's. Either way, I think the mg modelling in cmsf is still superb. You guys are right, they DO traverse the 8mX8m action spot, peppering the whole area (during Area Fire).
  11. My essential mods so far: bright base icons (the ones with the skulls, etc) FacesOfSyria Mord's (hooah!) Allah's army sound mod Mord's syrian fighters Mord's unit portraits MuddyWatersCompleteMod Red tracers/explosions Scipios sihouettes (very nice) Scipios weapon icons (very nice) Scipios weapon icons red cross (very nice) ThereGoesTheSun "Shots" a mixture of someones mods and mine
  12. I'm 100% positive that grazing fire has been effectively employed in every major war and most small wars since ww1. Grazing fire is quite common. Maybe most of them didn't draw up range cards before hand, but it's used all the time in combat. It could be as simple as an iraqi dude set up on a corner in falluja. Knowing the Marines are crossing the street 5 blocks away, he's shooting 3-5 round bursts down the street, creating a wall of bullets down the street that may cover several blocks. I think there are ways of accomplishing this in cmsf, you just have to have a little imagination. You could area fire a building down a road and let the enemy try to cross the road. There are more complex forms of fire, but we don't necessarily need all that in the game. The tools they provide in the game are good enough to be able to use VERY realistic combat tactics. That's why this is my favorite game. Realistic tracer counts would be cool to have (as an option), but I do like seeing all the fireworks! Edit: Hell yeah, colored tracers for each side would be great!
  13. Btw, I'm extremely happy to hear that you're going to try some mods. There are so many good ones. Many of those are essential to making the game visually better and to your liking. Don't give up on the mod manager, once it's working for you, it's much easier to change your mods around. It may take a while to get it all set up, but it works.
  14. Hey MarkEzra, Sorry for the error. The default install location is in c:\Program Files\zBee. Try to trust it and allow the macros. If that doesn't work, try to reinstall the program. (add/remove programs). Edit: Make sure to download v1.1. It's slightly better than 1.0.
  15. Anyone will scatter under direct attack. There are times when Marines will go above that, put their lives in the back seat, and charge ahead. I think that scattering while under direct fire is absolutely realistic. What the game does lack, is the ability for a soldier/Marine to go into situations of certain doom without regard of their own life. For example: in the game, you'll never see a guy run out and grab an injured man and drag him out of the kill zone. You can only wait or run out and probably die or run away. Maybe if we had a one time use Heroic action movement command, we could have some heroism, which is a part of all battles.
  16. Flanker15, I was a .50 cal gunner for 2 years, and worked closely with, and am trained in, the use of lighter machine guns. Mounted or "deployed" machine guns have are clamped down. When you adjust your aim, you turn you elevation knob, fire a few rounds, and adjust again. There is, however, also a Transverse knob, that lets you slowly adjust left and right. Really the only time you want to free gun it is in close quarters or in a narrow valley or something where you need to move the mg quickly. The bullets will naturally fire in a cone shape, a cone of deviation. Since the bullets are flying nearly parallel to the ground, the cone becomes an elongated oval along the ground. This area where the bullets hit, is called the beaten zone. So yes, the up and down adjustments and the elongated beaten zone could be considered authentic. Zero left and right deviation is not authentic. But still the beaten zone is vertically longer. Generally, tracers are positioned every 4th or 5 round. Meaning there are 3 or 4 bullets between each tracer. I do not know if cmsf has this properly modeled, but that's how it is in real life. Also, you generally won't see tracers used with a rifle. They can be, but not likely, unless a squad leader wants to point out targets or something. The SAW is used to spray bullets. For that reason it's good for suppression. It's basically used properly in the game. Think of the SAW as a beefed up m16 with a belt instead of a mag. The tactical usage of larger mg's are not fully realized in cmsf. For example, there is no grazing fire order. This creates a wall of bullets and is extremely useful in defense. I guess you could simulate this by manipulating target arcs. For the most part, cmsf does a great job. It's not perfect, but for a game it can't be beat.
  17. I agree. Just an additional icon and some hellfires.
  18. To ALL, If your using the mod manager, you can use those "extra" pics and readme files in the mod manager! Scenario designers and modders, keep putting those extra previews in there!
  19. Delta228, I just tried it and it works for me. Use Tab to jump your focus until you are focused on the list you want to cycle. Then use your arrows. Otherwise, glad you like it.
  20. Finally got it. Had 8 wounded, 0 KIA. The second mission was tough, buy I managed to make it through finally. Great little campaign!
  21. Webwing, I was having problems with cmmods a few weeks ago. It was showing no downloads and wouldn't let me rate anything. Maybe the problem is there again.
  22. 1) 1 - 5 or more. 2) Yes 3) Yes, for most scenarios. 4) Mostly blue vs red ai, some red vs red ai. I can NEVER bring myself to play red vs Blue.
  23. Sounds like Iraq '91 and even '03. I heard stories of when we took out the republican guard south of baghdad. 50 dudes (not really conscripts, but not great troops) walking behinds each tank. We simply obliterated them. SlapHappy, that battle must have been epic. I think all those guys would be getting medals.
