  1. This has been one of my big arguments all along. Artillery can shoot over hills; all they need is a grid. If I was a pixeltrooper and saw an enemy fall back behind a ridgeline, I'd want to be able to call a fire mission over that ridge. I guess I never understood the rationale behind having to have LOS to the target.
  2. I've seen many videos of Brits using then indirectly (especially lobbing them into compounds or into/over tree lines), but I guarantee they've been using them so much that they know just how to use it. I would assume that, while they seem like an oddball weapon, they serve a great purpose. That is that the grenade launchers will only go to 400m while hitting large artillery at 400m might be dangerous. There's that kinda naked zone where the enemy can infiltrate using defilade. Since they're so cheap, they can be used a lot compared to weapons like the javelin. It seems to serve a purpose and the Brits use them well. Can't wait to use them in the game!
  3. There is already a HESCO wall mod that you can use! At the moment, cmmods is still there and I think it's up there, otherwise you can pm me and I'll email it to you.
  4. Sweet. I was wondering about that. I have seen it used indirectly; or at least over a 15 foot wall where the shooter couldn't see anything. Since it is aimed by hand it never struck me as accurate. If it's set up to work like artillery, can you set up linear and area fire missions? How long does the preparation take? Seems to me like the Brits just jam it into the ground and fire away. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/07tb5lI8mG4YO/610x.jpg
  5. Thanks Scipio! Your mods are awesome, and I'll never go without your small arms icons again! I had to reinstall a while back and I forgot to load the mod. So I loaded up a game and I was immediately struck by how odd the default glowing green weapons were. I immediately loaded it and it's set as one of my essential mods. Same thing with all 4 on the repository. Thanks!
  6. I'd be willing to put together an ai plan, I just don't have time to make maps with my very busy schedule. AI plans, though, you'll just have to send me a copy of the gazette mission and tell me how you want the battle to unfold. I'm no ai genius, but I have figured out the ai while building my scenarios last year.
  7. WMD's were destroyed and/or moved. No, they didn't have the mobile chemical labs like Colin Powell convinced NATO of, but I still believe (fantasy maybe) that they got rid of what they had. If Saddam was willing to go through the trouble of burying MiG's, why not a few artillery shells and bombs? But still, the real reason imo, was our global strategy, which our mideast strategy is a part of. We were already in Afghanistan, and we could really pressure the powers that be (Iran, Saudi) by also invading Iraq. The geographical locations of Israel, Iraq, and Afghanistan are like setting up for a check-mate on a chess board. The fact that we like the King of Jordan (and his lovely wife) and also kiss the royal ass of the Saudi king, gives us a VERY strong position of power in the region.
  8. Hey r3pent, you can try my z-Bee mod manager 1.2. It can make the whole mod experimenting thing a lot easier. Just a tip. ;]
  9. OK, I already added an "Oh *#&@" moment, but a major one came the first time I heard the new sound effects from 1.1, especially when the choppers came rolling in! Also, the scenario Anderson Ridge is really one of those harrowing last stand type scenarios. I've played it several times hoping to save a few of my boys from death, but never really am able to. It always comes down to the last few guys.
  10. This has happened several times: With headphones on, I'll start a mission and start moving forward. All of a sudden there's a loud CRACK (usually a atgm hitting one of my vehicles) and I jump about a foot out of my chair!
  11. This is a great forum. You'll find all kinds of interesting conversations here, and with a very friendly crowd.
  12. No wonder my Marines couldn't seem to shoot straight!
  13. I found myself writing a large essay just now, so I decided to delete the more emotional parts and keep it simple . I think our guys are the three amigos, and bin laden is El Guapo. At least I'd like to think of ourselves as Knights; the only ones who can stand up to barbarians. And if we have to suck it up and go deeper into recession, then fine, let's give our guys the ammo they need to continue their meatgrinder strategy (taliban being the meat). Rather than telling them to shoot less, let's find a way to lower the cost of the shells! While we are losing the war politically, these taliban guys are just getting hammered. The more troops we have over there, the more they get hammered. Without our full commitment, it's just going to continue being a blood bath. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=787_1239620177
  14. I definitely am pleased that: a) You guys are responsible developers who will push the release date back to polish things up a bit. Good job! You guys are even working on a Brits module! I'd be happy if it took another 8 months as long as I know it's on the way. c) You have told us so we're not completely in the dark. d) I'm not on The List... right?
  15. Came back to check on your progress... glad you got it worked out!
  16. I don't think you can launch artillery without trying to kill the target. Considering the (possible) circumstances, they were hitting pretty closely. The NATO guys may have been firing under fire as well, adding to the slightly less-than-perfect counter fire. And who knows what type of equipment they had, they could have been just a platoon in a small outpost with none of the high tech radar.
  17. Maybe bump you setting up? Your computer seems better than mine, and I have my settings higher than that. Maybe try some different video drivers. I once had to re-install older ati drivers because of similar problems with blackened screens. The older driver worked perfectly.
  18. I think Mord's video is real. These guys love to film themselves attacking Americans, makes them feel powerful having people see them attacking the most powerful country on Earth. I think the counter attack started and they ran away, leaving the camera behind. If that camera was a person, I think he would at least have been injured. In the other video, it's hard to tell what's going on. It's true that they could have been a decoy team, but I think the more likely explanation is that there are several small teams, all firing mortars and anything else they have available from different positions. The air support could very well have been hitting additional mortars, or a squad of infantry. The incoming was very close, though. I would assume that since the rounds were impacting on the far side of the hill (from the counter-battery perspective), that they were'nt really able to adjust accurately enough to hit the enemy mortar. The slow firing of the taliban could have been a suppression mission, just keeping the NATO forces' heads down while the main force moved or attacked.
  19. Wow, I totally meant to post this link with this... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=7ef_1225140389 Here's a great shot of a linear fire mission. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=869_1239409908
  20. Here a slightly more dramatic video of a counter attack on the taliban. If you can get past the demonic chanting, it gets more intense as it goes on. A lot of near hits, but looks like we just couldn't find the target. Lucky bastards.
  21. The British are an amazing force. Watching many shows of reporters embedding with them in Afghanistan, they seem more professional than our US guys. They are very brave, smart, and heroic soldiers/marines/commandos. Look up Ross Kemp's stuff on his (at least two) embeds in afghanistan. Some of these shows, especially Ross Kemp's, it's just like playing CMSF. If you're a CMSF veteran, you know exactly what they are talking about as they go into detail about their tactics. Nice slideshow by the way. Basra has been a tough nut to crack. How many times have the Brits taken Basra?
  22. I'd like to see a wind direction indicator.
  23. Hollywood was ALWAYS mentioned in my training, and ALWAYS in the context of non-realism. The other main reference was John Wayne, which is Hollywood related. Don't wear your gear like you're John Wayne, and your rifle isn't full of Hollywood magazines. The next time I see "The Rock" diving from an explosion, I'd like to see him get up with blood coming out of his ears and his ass full of shrapnel. If they're gonna spend so many millions of beautiful fiery explosions, then they could at least try to make is somewhat realistic. To me, that tells the story better.
