Small/Tiny CMSF Scenarios
theFightingSeabee replied to Sitting Duck's topic in CMSF Scenario and Mod Design Forum
Here's a few that I know of... "Afghani Stan" is one of mine and is very small. US Special Forces squad ambushing some Taliban. While not extremely tiny, a USMC campaign called "From the Dawn to Setting Sun" follows a small group of Marines through a really tough day at the office. "YI_USMC_PlTraining1" is a small yet fun scenario. "Scoops Big Adventure" is a tiny one for you... "Only about 10 minutes" is pretty small. (Maybe I'm thinking of "Back for Dinner"). USMC "310 to Yuma" isn't too big. There are quite a few enemies to deal with, but great fun. -
That's why I want to use 1600x900. The native HD resolution is too high for me, so I've had to use large icons and increase my font size. I installed the latest drivers. All seems well now. -And I set up my old monitor as a #2, so I've now got the super-fancy dual monitor setup. It's like Christmas! I'm basically just stuck with the high res.
-
I downloaded a utility called powerstrip and also changed a couple registry entries. I can now select 1600x900, which is the perfect size for me, but in Windows the fonts and icons are all blurry. In windows, I'll either have to go with a stretched 1440x900 or the "too small for my eyes" 1920x1080 HD mode. In some of my games however, I can now select 1600x900 and it looks great, while others still don't look right. Also, I'm afraid to download the newest Catalyst drivers because of the problems with CMSF. Unless, ofcourse, that issue has been fixed where ATI users can't use higher than catalyst 9.3. I don't know what else to do.

Even though my monitor is 16:9, 1600x900 is not even an option I can choose from even with regards to my desktop. It will do full 16:9 HD mode, but won't do any other widescreen ratio. What is the limiting factor? Drivers? Monitor? EDIT: By the way, sorry moderators for tech support question in wrong place! My mistake.

What monitor resolutions work with CMx2? Another birthday, another great gift from my woman... a new huge-screen 23" monitor. I know I can change resolutions in the text file, but which ones are supported that work with a 16:9 aspect ratio? Or should I use a 16:10 and just have black edges? On a side note, my Radeon HD4670 doesn't seem to support 1600x900, which would be ideal. 1360x768 doesn't come in clear at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sound Modding

Ryujin, the sounds are great! I'll be mixing and matching to find my favorites. You're right, sounds do make the most difference as far as mods go. Thanks!!! -
Sound Modding
theFightingSeabee replied to Apocalypse 31's topic in CMSF Scenario and Mod Design Forum
I'll check out the sounds. Having been in a military unit for 6 years and having fired and witnessed firing of many of these weapons, I'll give you my opinion. Barring totally unrealistic sounds, individual tastes will determine the best. For example, firing an M16 sounds much different than actually standing behind someone firing one, and much different still than having one shot in your direction. Being some distance away will actually also make it sound differently. These are due to many factors including the air, humidity, weather, distance, direction, and environment. A gunshot in the woods on a hot and humid day will sound different than the same shot on a cold night in an urban area. Whatever the case, I will give you my humble opinion later. -

Nice sound Ryujin. What I've always specifically been looking for is the clear POP of gunshots. It's cool to hear the linkage dropping and the action of the gun itself, but really only the gunner is going to hear that. The rest of the battlefield will not hear that, only the crisp pop. The problem with recorded sounds are that they are almost always distorted by the microphone. If you watch/listen to a bunch of different videos, you'll notice they all sound different. -
Mortars are going to be one of the most useful weapons. The rest is going to be a lot of shooting, flanking, and gutsy assaults. Using armor will help, but the Shermans are easily taken out, so we'll have to be careful with them.

USMC Circle The Wagons AAR
theFightingSeabee replied to Wiggum's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Circle the Wagons is a great one. I've played it 5 times (or more?), but now I know how to win much easier. I won my first time, but took more than 3 KIA -- good job Wiggum! -

I have one that I use, but don't remember where I got it. I wanted a more crisp sound than what the game offers. If you want it, pm me and I'll email it to you. -
Yeah I agree, Wodin. The Brits module really adds a lot to the game. This game, to me, truly is a classic that I will surely play for years to come.

Field fortification (manual - how to do)

Thanks Alex! This is a very good tutorial. I have an old scenario that I never released because my fortifications were nearly worthless. Next time I decide to work on it, I'll use your ideas. -

Great! I'd also like your thoughts on crew served weapons positions. How would you fortify a position for a .50 cal or Mk19? -
