  1. I'll take your word for it, but they sure seem popular enough in the Donbass (and in Syria they're all the rage).
  2. On the face of it I'd generally agree, but I still believe that with careful design any of the scenario concepts presented above could still be made into an enjoyable mission.....Let's face it, most missions at their core amount to little more than 'Go Here & Kill Everyone', but it doesn't stop them from being fun. Do you recall me building that ODA Team Core a while back? I designed a few mini-scenarios for it (basic scripting on reused maps as proof of concept, nothing coherent) but I reckon it has some potential and will try similar experiments in the new game, where I will have better control of the AI and so on. In the majority of these designs the ODA Team is accompanied by local forces, thus minimising the 'One man with a SMG factor', I'm sure the same could be done with local French forces for your SAS in NWE concept (if BF were to give us WWII Uncons).....Sure it may not always be 100% accurate, but if a little bending of reality gives us a series of novel and entertaining scenarios, is that such a terrible thing?
  3. Yup and his results in the newer engine were as expected, so it's just a legacy issue with CM:SF1, scarcely even a curiosity these days!
  4. No.....He's Ukrainian, so he can do or say whatever the **** he likes, apparently.
  5. A somewhat disturbing take from LWJ: https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2018/11/analysis-us-military-grossly-underestimates-taliban-al-qaeda-force-levels-in-afghanistan.php An utterly fantastical take from SWJ: http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/losing-winnable-war
  6. Well the US controls the western half, so that all seems very equitable to me.
  7. Interesting, and quite a different outcome to my own experiments in CM:SF1, clearly the modelling is rather more sophisticated in the newer games (no huge surprise there TBH).....Your results are about what I expected to see and generally match my own experiences in play (hence my surprise at my own results). Did you get any building demolitions? I used a lot of .50cal in in @MOS:96B2P TOC and blew out the odd building wall, but I don't recall completely demolishing anything with .50cal alone (mostly 'cos when I was intent on demolishing things I used 40mm HE too.)
  8. That's not what happened though is it? The Ukrainian vessels chose not to follow their own procedure and charged straight at Russia's shiny new bridge.....Really, what did they expect was going to happen? It's just lucky for your crews that Russia has rather more patience than me. From my understanding of the new world rules ('Might Makes Right') it seems pretty clear that the Sea of Azov is Russia's pond and that you guys will need to start building some new ports.....Does Poroshenko own a company that builds ports too? That's just cruel.....We all know what 'Western-oriented economy' does to developing nations!
  9. I'd rather see Shilka, ZSU-23-2s & NSVs added to both the Ukrainian & Russian lists TBH.....The latter in particular are a much bigger omission than US AA units IMHO.
  10. Just as Erwin said. Yes the rounds penetrate, yes they moderately disturb the team the other side, but the .50cal levels the building (and commences direct fire) before the enemy team actually suffers any consequences from suppression. Explosions? No.....These are high-density, high-velocity projectiles, apparently passing straight through the building, but they don't seem able to seriously effect the team on the far side before the whole building comes down. Just an observation and one that surprises me slightly (as it's contrary to what I thought went on, and as you know, I routinely riddle my own urban maps with .50cal fire).....But taking the whole building down is fine by me!
  11. I feel much the same, I'm still ignoring the demo, just itching for the full editor. PS - Unless/until the dismounted ammo dump thing is resolved I feel CM:SF1 will still have some novelty value, just for the unusual TOEs you can create with crew-swapping.....Doubt I'll write anything for it though, it's a pain to balance the VPs and the new game will just be better. However the fact remains CM:SF2 won't actually meet it's promise of running all CM:SF1 scenarios OOTB until they do sort the dismounted ammo dump issue!
  12. Oh I don't know, Dubya doesn't seem to be doing that badly.
  13. Sand, sand, nothing but sand..... For some reason I just don't get WWII desert warfare, on the other hand I love CM:SF. I suppose if we could model LRDG/SAS out of the box I might have a change of heart.
  14. Modified my post to cover all my observations.....The Spy/VBIED thing really surprised me, I had to completely re-plan the story for Al Hutumah as a result.
  15. Missed this on the first pass through the thread.....I've found there's a interesting dynamic at play between NVG and Uncons. My testing of Mosul scenarios suggests that Uncons appear to be better than regular units at seeing other Uncons in heavily populated environments** (High or Medium setting in most of my tests), unless it is (getting) dark, at which point NVG equipped units (Syrian SF in my experiments) gain the advantage. Please note the emphasis given to 'suggests' & 'appear to be'.....This was not by any means the main focus of my testing. ** This works both ways as I discovered when my Spy triggered a passing VBIED! PS - Note also the slightly brighter skies in the latest iterations of Al Hutumah.
  16. That's the whole point, this was never about Ukrainian ships negotiating the Kerch Strait, it was about creating a(nother) diplomatic incident with Russia. Actually, the Russians are honouring the agreement. Poroshenko/Ukraine wanted an incident, so an incident we got. Is he aware that there's a BAL-E coastal defence array in the Crimea? If he's not, he's shockingly misinformed, if he is, he has a very low regard for the well-being of the men under his command. PS - It was my understanding that Russia detained two SBU agents?
  17. That seems to be the root of it, a provocation/election stunt has blown up in Ukraine's face, again.....Time to start burning things, again, I guess. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46340283 I'm bloody sure they don't!
  18. ROFL.....So what you're saying is the Ukraine launched this provocation with the specific intent to manipulate the west into punishing Russia for it?!
  19. Don't forget that fighter teams have the lethal RPG-29 as a rule (average or better equipment for a Fighter Command) in CM:SF, TBH I'm hoping this might be toned down a bit in CM:SF2, IMHO they should only become available when equipment is set to excellent.
  20. Lucky for the crew that your provocation didn't earn that little boat a Bal (they wouldn't waste a Bastion on such a puny target), but there's still plenty of time I suppose.
  21. The doorway can be perfectly functional and the silly blighters will still do it, especially when they're controlled by AI scripting.....Overcoming this tendency from the editor can be an absolute nightmare, believe me. (ISIS are not cooperating at all.....)
  22. Just checked .50cal in CM:SF1.....It actually demolishes light buildings before having serious suppressive effect on teams positioned on their far side. I'm actually a bit surprised by that.....Going to repeat the test in CM:A & CM:BS now.
