I could care less what house you live in or what your job is. You just claimed you were German but your profile say’s you live in the States so I was just curious. I didn’t know if you were one of those who have lived in the States for generations but were so in love with the Nazi’s that you claimed you had 1/36th German in you. You’re right I don’t know you so I can only go by what you post. That’s why I said you were sounding like a Nazi fan boy. I was just giving you a friendly warning so that if you weren’t a fan boy then maybe you would put some thought into your post before you claim some sub par German tank should be superior to an Allied tank because the PZIV was a German tank crewed by German’s. I’m obviously not the only one to get this impression, just read the other’s responses to what you have written. Plus what does your name mean? Just a question. You also claim to be a historian yet you can’t seem to realize that the PZIV series weren’t all that great. Game dynamics are one thing but you’re the one who brought up Normandy so don’t be surprised when people respond to your post with what happened in real life. Plus this game is supposed to be historically accurate so game dynamics and real history go hand in hand when discussing something about the game. Lastly you claim the T-34 was able to take out PZIV’s easily, well sorry to tell you the Sherman 75mm had better anti tank capabilities than the T-34 76mm. So by you saying this, you should know, being a historian and all, that a Sherman would have been just as capable to take out a PZIV as the T-34 was.

I think what people are confusing here and in the other thread when they say that the Allies didn’t like the Sherman, are the accounts taken from Allied tankers about their experience against German heavy tanks. Of course the tankers are going to say the Sherman was rubbish against a Tiger because it was. But I doubt that they would have wanted to be in a PZIV of any flavor against a Tiger either. All the other accounts and books I have read dealing with Allied tank crews fight against other than heavy tank opponents, give the Sherman good marks. You have to remember that they didn’t run into a Tiger every day either. Which in CM you do. I think another reason for this popular belief that Sherman’s weren’t good comes from German tankers. I have read and seen interviews with German tankers who were expecting the Americans to make a tank far better than they themselves had. They thought since America was a great industrial power and away from the everyday war (by this I mean the US wasn’t getting bombed out like England and Russia) that the Americans would have created some super uber tank. Which at the time the Sherman went into production it was better than what the Germans had i.e. PZIII or PZIV. Your profile says you’re from the US are you originally from Germany? Plus I hate to burst your German loving tank bubble but the T-34 was the best tank in WW2 up to mid summer of 42. Just a friendly warning, from your post you sound like a Nazi fan boy. People here won’t take you seriously in historical debate or game dynamics discussions if they think you are a Nazi fan boy. Plus if Allied equipment was so inferior then how did we win the war? Oh and LOL.

Oh, one more thing the skirt's on the German tanks won't protect them from AP rounds. The skirts are used to limit the effect of HEAT rounds. Like from bazookas and HC rounds that are actually HEAT rounds.

Personally the Pz IV series tanks have always disappointed me. Maybe it’s my own bad luck but I’ve witnessed it happen to my opponents as well. The problem is that it doesn’t seem to have an advantage at ranges of 800m plus. For example; there were four Pz IV’s sitting on a hill, down below at 800-1000m where some T-34’s ducking in and out of cover. The T-34’s were using shoot and scoot and pinging the Pz IV’s repeatedly until the remaining Pz’s with drew. This whole time not a single T-34 was even hit all the Pz’s shots missed. I’ve even witnessed in one of George’s scenario’s (that are well know for big beautiful maps) that at ranges of 800-1000m the T-34 performs better than my veteran crewed Pz IV’s. It seems the Pz IV’s would have the advantage due to better optics and gun velocity. Plus and I know this has been discussed before but you’d think that a tank that is hull down at 800m would be hard to hit, yet Pz IV’s turrets seem to be a magnet for enemy shells even though the enemy doesn’t have great optic’s and are shooting at a small target at 800m. The armor issue I don’t think is a big deal. You yourself even said they were accurate when you hit the enter button. You’ve got to remember that the Pz IV’s armor isn’t sloped very much. IIRC only 10 degree’s at most in some spots. So at 500 or even 1000m the Sherman with the M3 can easily penetrate 50mm of armor. What bugs me is the frequency at which they are able to make contact. I also believe that the Stuart’s 37mm gun can penetrate the turret of a Pz’IVH at 500m. Which to me sounds accurate but here you might be affected by poor behind armor effect by the 37mm.

Actually the pic shown clearly shows that the Tiger is considered hull down to the Sherman. Not the other way around. When you aim at something, the info for the thing you are targeting will pop up over the thing you are targeting. If you are hull down then "hull down" will pop up over your own tank.

Maybe he ran out of gas. Bumping does help un bog some vehicles if you are able to hit him soon after he bogs.

Von Lucke, thanks for the response but I'm not looking for any conspiracy theory. I mean I clicked on the link you provided and on the right side of the page there were a list of conspiracy theories. From what I've gathered the changes were due to some budget problems. Like I said before they need to just put this stuff on the web. Isn't there a website for the National Library? If so can you read their books online? Lastly wouldn't the National Library have most of the same stuff as the archives?

I thought you were going to break into a Rage against the machine song. Why are they reclassing documents that were previously released? What are they reclassing them to? Whats the reason they decided to change the hours? I don't want to hear some conspiracy theory, I just want to know what the reasons given were.

Maybe I don't get it but how is this going to keep anyone from looking at the records? It does say they will be open from 9-5 doesn't it? Like I said I don't understand what the problem is so please explain it to me. I've heard that cmbb will be patched for this game. I'm just wondering what the patch will contain? Is it going to be something that we wont notice, like it has to be patched in order to work properly with cmc or is it going to be a patch that includes game play changes? I would love an actual list of changes but if you only have time to say whether it’s interface or that it is game play changes that would satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.

My question is; what changes are they making to cmbb for this game? Maybe they will change the scenario editor to where you could have tanks and vehicles be immobile instead of dug in which is the only way you can simulate immobile vehicles now.

Yea the Netherlands is way better. Why the lame jab? By the way that SF pic is hilarious. I think Blitzkrieg and Axis & Allies are prime examples of why not to like RTS's. But I do enjoy the total war series. Haven't played CC. I have been looking forward to this game for awhile though I expect it to be great.
