F5 F5 F5 F5 Get Your Monkeys Refreshed!!
scottie replied to benpark's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
is it just me that thinks so or is the whole refresh build up the anticipation really enjoyable ... -
Thinking about this , tweaking the full release based on mass of feedback from the demo surely isn't a bad think even if the game takes a few more weeks. Some really good feedback on this forum.

Please Help - Closing the pocket
scottie replied to WillLight's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Tell you what though , the game offers so much more playing it using the Turned Based option it really does. Only way to appreciate the little details , watch what the units do , see what rounds hit and from where. You just cannot get this from the Realtime option IMO , even although Realtime can offer that quick excitement fix. -

Playing as the Allies i really enjoyed this scenario. Managed to keep the Germans out of the village using mortars (105s too) for the most part but cannot remember the victory types sorry. (Keep a platoon in reserve in the gully ready to plug gaps). Keep other platoon in buildings narrow away from direct cannon fire. Racing shermans to the left cross roads (as seen from allied side) victory location i have flanking shot on an german inf attack and the Panthers , then the TDs at the otherside (allied top right) of the map looking for a side shot if they (panthers) take the bait ... works well if they do. If not the shermans chew up the infantry attacking the village. Trouble i have been finding is the Panthers wont move far off the hill , they stick there in overwatch even when the inf attack grinds to a hault. They never move in and attempt to grab a victory location .... maybe the TAC AI assesses the risk as too high with flanking Sherman. -
yeah i didnt last , feel asleep about midnight , but 5am was a nice time of the morning to find a downloadable demo. BF said they were aiming for the 13th , then wanted a few more days to work on the demo issues found after the release. Also said no development of features in the Gold Master , not sure if that means potential bug fixes are covered or not. I was expecting Tuesday/Wednesday this week for the release but you never can tell what is going on.

for me: - pre bombard town - lay smoke using 81mms - rush infantary down centre (2 platoons iirc) - covering fire from armoured cars into flank buildings - mgs on flanks - panthers facing forward from cover , same with SPGs Worked first time , not played as Germans since. Training mission as the US on the other hand i am enjoying ... can play without any loses now .... CMSF esq. -
Regarding LOS (admittedly i have not read the entire thread) i find my armour unit rarely spot enemy armour (even using cover arc unbuttoned) even when i can spot the ground around them. So i tend to target the ground which most of the time gets a hit on the armour unit covering it. I guess you could argue a command unit is directing the fire , its possible to have Line of Fire but no Line of sight in real life and the software reflects that. Could i get tank crew to bail , spot then re-enter the tank then still see the armour ? ... need to test that.

an update cool , thanks

how to you manage pause in multi player though ? player 1 hits pause and waits for player2 to confirm then the reverse to start again ? doesn't sound very manageable or enjoyable imo. Turn based however would be fine.

Thanks for the update Martin, can plan Saturday / Sunday now and stay away from F5 for a weekend at least. -

DEMO hangs when ENDing game
scottie replied to Asmodeus's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Same issue here too. Dell xps 420 Win7 ultimate x64 All patched up (latest ati drivers too) ATI Radeon 6950 4GB ram Intel Quad Core 2 Hangs on exit , process still running , have to task manager end process to continue. Not a big problem to be honest. -
Spot on , i really struggled with CMSF at first due to new style of game play , new UI , took me ages to appreciate the software. If anyone is struggling stick with it and you will be rewarded by the experience honest.
