  1. I´ve played Brit vs Syrian H2H mech infantry (don´t have the exact title at my fingertips) via TCPIP with Elvis. Essentially both sides have light vehicles, lots of infantry and access to one set of off- map Mortars. The game ended in a bloody draw (I was playing the brits). I recommend this one highly. I think there are many tactical posibbilities to this scenario. I´m currently playing the H2H armour clash (Challenger2s vs. T72s) as PBEM. I´ll report when all my T72s have been destroyed ;O)
  2. It definitely doesn´t work with 9.5 + VISTA. It does work on 8.12 + XP
  3. some real world experience: If you are getting vista64 bit, get 8GB of RAM. Makes a hell of a difference. It´s probably irrelevant for CMSF, but Crysis hums along happily with 8GB, but stutters with 4GB. I have both an XP (to be on the safe side) and vista 64 install on my system. I hardly touch XP anymore. XP is slower to start, and all apps including games are slower or the same. I´m sure windows 7 will run fine on the hardware of 2011.
  4. I agree with you as far as online games are concerned. with a 95% single player game like empire, I just don´t see why I shouldn´t be able to play my game if it´s installed and been activated by code just becvause the steam servers are in a temporary funk. it should be the other way round, if they can´t guarantee service they´re copy protection should deactivate for thatb time span. anyhow empire is working now, can´t say whether steam or sega is to blame. turned out that the first install from the dvd didn´t work (over half of the game was missing , according to steam it was 100% installed, doh).
  5. good for you. just bought empire (hardcopy!), installed it, wanted to play and i get: game unavailable, servers currently overloaded, try again later. doh.
  6. the Syrian side surrenders faster in 1.11 than in previous versions. This has made the campaign easier.
  7. Be cool, I wish I was a geek ;O) Don´t read the manual !!!! ) , it´s hopelessly out of date by now anyway. I was in your situation a while back. I´m not a linux pro, but after much experimentation I managed to get DT running. My somewhat short post sums up the main problems I ran into. 64 bit is the big issue here. It isn´t impossible to run DT on 64bit linux, you need the right 32 bit libraries to do so. There is a post somewhere by Toby Haynes detailing how to do that. In my personal opinion (formed by dredging trhough linux forums for hours on end) 64 bit isn´t worth it. Whatever you do you´ll inevitably be running into problems using 64 bit linux unless you are a pro. As I understand it, there is no genuine advantage of using 64 bit except for being able to use more than 4GB RAM. No idea what ELF class is. One other problem I ran into was that when you download files in windows and move them to linux you often have to give yourself permission to use them. you do this using the chown command. chown --h gives you all the info needed how to use it. One cool thing about dropteam ( and probably all other games/programs) in linux is that that once it´s up and running, just backup your dropteam folder. should you ever reinstall your PC or get anew machine, just copy the DT folder back into your home folder, no "installing" required.
  8. for a linux install to be easy: a) it should be 32 bit linux 3d drivers should be installed c) if ubuntu, change dash to bash
  9. Hi guys. Apart from not finding anybody online anymore, I´ve also found it more difficult to free up enough time for computergames other than a quick half our of FPS or trackmania here and there. I think I´ll let DropTeam die peacefully and wait for Dropteam2. I´m considering giving CMSF a second chance now that it appears that online play works. Anywho I won´t erase DT from my harddrive, just in case there is a grand reunion
  10. Syrian buildings are too tough. I find it hard to believe that buildings can take multiple artillery hits without collapsing.
  11. 1.11 did not change anything for my XP install. I now installed CMSF in Vista64 (same computer, 8.12 video drivers) and this works now. weird (the XP install was working prior to changeing to 8.11 video drivers!). hope that helps.
  12. Yes. The corruption of the intro is gone, but the game still crashes when I attempt to start a battle or campaign...
  13. since switching to driver 8.11 on my ati 4870 (1gb) I not only get the weird start screen like wiggum, the game crashes when i start either a scenario or a campaign. i´d also like to note that while using the 8.9. drivers the game runs slower on my new core2duo 8500 + ati 4870 (1gb) system than on my old athlon64 4000 + geforce 7800 gtx. my hopes are on the 1.11 patch.
  14. I hear the Iranians are building air drones with a secret AI pathfinding algorithm codenamed "CMSF". Their unpredictable flight paths will shock the their imperialist foes into such awe that they can be picked off by hand grenade throwing bicycle brigades.
  15. you mean stonewall I presume. or there was a tragic misunderstanding. I was fighting so hard I wasn´t able to concentrate on anything anybody said or that I may have typed
  16. in any case that mesa battle was damn close last minute turnaround by 152&stonewall
  17. can´t make it today, sorry. not feeling well, some f*&/ing virus or something.
  18. Maybe try my settings: I have these options OFF:music, bot voices, particles, foliage, color blind, shadows, hires textures, collision damage othe than that: 4x AA terrain quality 80% view distance max
  19. I tried to reproduce the crash, but couldn´t. I also have an ATI card (4870 1GB).
