Aragorn2002 reacted to TGarner in The patch?
Oh sure I get that and I am not really talking so much about release of the patch but just some communication to the community who has supported them through thick and thin.
That is what really bothers me. I love these game more than any other game I have ever owned and always had big love for these devs but just to put it into perspective.
They released a for money engine upgrade that broke the AI.  Ok that happens, its game development.  Then they say something about it being almost ready or looking good almost 6 months ago and since then not a word. Not a "hey guys we are working on it ran into some issues but we are working on it."  Just a little communication goes a long way.
Unless I totally missed some communication.  It really makes ya wonder if they just cant fix it and they don't want to say it.

    Aragorn2002 reacted to CCIP in Golynki - 2x2 km, villages/marshes (map done/scenario WIP, v0.1)
    Greetings!

This is my first real attempt with the editor - which started out from this real-world Luftwaffe aerial shot I came across for the village of Golynki, west of Smolensk...

...which I stretched to fit more neatly into a CM-friendly grid, and came out with this map:

It is a 2000m x 1792m map, covering a few types of terrain: a peat bog in the northern half, a wooded area and the near-pristine village of Tregubovka to the southeast, and the larger village of Golynki to the soutwest, which has been largely demolished and abandoned under the German occupation. The map is divided in half by drainage ditch running north-south (both it and a secondary ditch on the northeast side are passable 'shallow ford' throughout), and has a major rail line running east-west in the bottom quarter of the map.

At the moment, I have no data on any actions that took place here - all I learned is that this area was recaptured by the Soviets in October 1943 (I originally thought it was part of the CMRT timeline in 1944, but it is not so).

It's a very detailed, handcrafted map - it may still need a bit of optimization as I went very heavy on the flavour objects (so the frame rate might drag down in certain areas, depending on your system). On the upside, it's very pretty in places

I'm trying to figure out what to do with it in terms of scenario - and since I have absolutely 0 experience with scenario building and AI programming at the moment, any help or advice would be appreciated! What would you like to see on this map?

At the moment, there is no AI and all the parameters, objectives, etc. are placeholders only. It's only really usable in the editor right now.

You may download my current WIP version of it here:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hA9cr80cdMmHkGK8mhhbNgZz_LAefsyH

    ...or in the forum attachment.

If you have anything that you'd like to create on this map yourself, or use it or any part of it for your own scenarios - you're very welcome to do so (with credit for map given).

    Thanks for checking it out!

I've got to admit I now have more than two games (as of this evening) on hold because of poor AI behaviour that have stopped play. When veteran troops (and +2), rested and OK are in cover behind bocage but come under pinning fire, they do not run out from the bocage into the exposed field of fire  - unless they first panic or at least become nervous. Pinned does not mean panic, it means pinned! Infuriating stuff!

I must admit that I am getting worried about this. The long silence and inactivity is unusual. Perhaps there is a deeper problem behind all of this that cannot be resolved. That would be a great shame. I find it difficult to explain what we are seeing (or not seeing) as just a bit of a sulk. I can't remember a patch taking this long after the new version release.

I don't see how his comment is a derailment. It's common sense and very relevant to the subject and although our 'freedom of speech' doesn't expand to this kind of logical conclusions, evidence can be seen and found rather easily. The figures about the costs and the increased crime are not published by the German government, but you only have to walk through a big German city nowadays to see the problem. Or talk to Germans (especially the police or civil servants!) when they are not on camera.
I understand this site doesn't want this kind of discussions, but to call everyone who mentions this huge problem a fascist or extreme-right winger won't do in my opinion. There always should be a place for real refugees (I count quite a few of them among my friends, especially from Afghanistan), but what's happening in Germany is indeed lunacy.  It may not be the main reason for the German defence problem, but it certainly is part of it.  It's just hard to prove with figures and facts because nobody dares to publish them or say it openly. That's the state of our freedom of speech anno 2018.

It wouldn't surprise me if part of the German Military's budget is being diverted to pay for the millions of unproductive Third World immigrants that Angela Merkel and the other open-borders lunatics in Germany have imported over the last two decades.

This was posted on FB, and should be of keen interest to many here, both for what CM games already are out and for the much wanted earlier period games.

God help us all if those "experienced combat soldiers" ever have to deal with an actual Russian force, Russia will be at the Rhine in 72 hours.
As @Rinaldi has said, most NATO forces are in pitiful states, but Germany is singled out for being in an especially poor state. I'm pretty sure the spinning corpses of Frederick and Blucher could power all of Europe if they were to see the state of today's German "army."

No, its sign of sloppy discipline and lax grooming standards. There are no 'experienced combat soldiers' in the Bundeswehr; just some geared-up fellows from one of the quietest areas of Afghanistan.
The Bundeswehr is a mess, and has been for a long time. On the one hand its a good sign of a healthy pacifist movement in Germany, on the other hand its a worrying sign about funding problems (beyond the usual) for the military and for piss-poor retention rates for enlisted men. They are dealing with less of what they should be dealing with materially and in terms of manpower; and they aren't getting the pick of the litter.

SpetsNaz, I think, vs muj in 1986. Russians are desperately trying to interdict Stinger shipments and capture a sample. Lots of war toys, including Mi-24V HIND/D. Really well done show, with real characters, not caricatures. Am finding this more than a bit surreal, for I was at Rockwell then and can well recall the electric sense of excitement we all felt in Operations Analysis when we got DOD Betamax footage of a muj downing a MI--17 HIP with a Stinger, We knew this would have a profound impact on Russian ability to use air power, especially helos.

    Bulletpoint,
Pretty much. Guess the Puma was the AC equivalent of a Tiger tank, so when people saw an 8-Rad (with a turret?) it got reported as a Puma. Always thought the Puma was cool, but when the Bundeswehr revisited the 8-Rad during the Cold War, it plumped for the 20 mm auto cannon in a fully enclosed turret on the Luchs. It kept the fore and aft facing driver configuration, too. How my brother and his fellow Bradley CFV Scouts envied their German brethren over that, size, quietness, etc.Besides, if you're not armed to fight tanks, then you won't be tempted to act like you are one!

Aragorn2002 reacted to John Kettler in Grabner's force at Arnhem Bridge
In "A Bridge Too Far," SS-Pz Aufk. Abt. 9 CO Viktor-Eberhard (not Paul) Grabner is made to look the brave fool, but he wasn't. He was a man exhibiting the intrepidity which was expected of the Aufklargung Abteilung COs and was attempting to bounce the Bridge. Had he succeeded, he would've been lionized. Learned the hard way the British were there in strength, concerning which I have another important detail.

Here's the full list of his force, but not all of it participated. Nor was it a slaughter of a few minutes, but a battle which raged for two hours. Contrary to popular belief, there were no Pumas present, but there were some SdKfz 231/1 8-Rad, which, like much German armor, got morphed by those seeing them into Pumas. Of note in the force list are motorcycle combos and Schwimmwagens. And if there isn't already enough chrome in the discussion, Grabner was using a captured Humber armored car! It was a Mark IV, and if you're hardcore, Warlord had one painted up for BA in the paint scheme and markings Grabner's had that day. Image only. Not a live link. This was from August 2009.

Best info on what actually attacked.

    http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=318535
Some recent reading I did in a book called The Mammoth Book of Elite Forces, Jon Lewis, Ed., in an Arnhem chapter by G.G. Norton,  provided additional details on 459. For one, Frost's force was 600-700 menm, vs an attacking force composed of 5 xAC and 6 X HT. Here's the plot twist. The paras had six-pounders, a pair I read somewhere, and these went after the ACs, while the Sappers destroyed the others. That's a paraphrase of what Frost said, but from here, it's apparent  from the above that there was a lot more going on. Frost was being economical with his description, for there was a lot more coming over the Bridge than he let on.

Some background on Viktor-Eberhard Grabner, including what's not in the above regarding disposition of his body. Notice the combat awards he received. Notice, too, what he'd been tasked to do.

Found this little investigation most helpful in understanding the attempt to bounce the Bridge, the forces involved, the man behind it and a previously unknown to me aspect of British anti-armor firepower present.

Since you and some other people here keep repeating themselves, allow me to do the same, sburke. We would already be satisfied with some screenshots. Bud has already been so kind to do that for the new Italy module and the reactions are mainly polite and grateful. Benpark's 'update' is just a repetition of what we are hearing for years now. It adds nothing and his time would be better used if he posted some screenshots. Again no offence, Ben.
I'm not asking for a release date or a complete TOE, although it worries me that simple facts like that are STILL not known. Just some simple screenshots of the new CMRT module, people. Stop making things so complicated.

Aragorn2002 reacted to John Kettler in Anticipatory post for CM:Stalingrad!
After I mentioned Pavloc's house over on the CoC board on FB, one of the guys essentially said the story of Pavlov's house was propaganda. When I asked for evidence, he sent me this link to a massive discourse on the whole situation, complete with photos and Russian CC film clips. The amount of information here is overwhelming, but I thought it would delight the troops. The carnage is sobering (a battalion down to 18 effectives), showing how truly close the Germans came to taking Stalingrad, and there's grog chrome galore, too. Nets on upper story windows on German buildings to keep out incendiary bottles, for example. And did you know Serjeant Pavlov took the house with only three other frontoviki? They were its sole garrison for a time, and the buld-up began from there. All in all, this Reddit is a marvelous resource for what I'm sure is a CM game people dream of (or wake up sweating at the thought of it). There is a great deal more at the link, including a lot of amplifying remarks, corrections to the article's translator, comments about being respectful to the fighters and more. All in all, quite the education!

    Fair use

I have prepared a video AAR of a mission from The Charge of the Stryker Brigade campaign.
I have had some issues with the design of some missions in the campaign, but most missions are masterfully designed, including this one. Enjoy.

    Hi,
thanks for the compliments, but they are not necessary.
This mod was not a great creative work. It was a simple model-swap with available resources.

    @Splinty
Sorry, but I don't think that this is possible (with my abilities).
It would eventually possible to use several models, but I think that they would probably use all the same textures what will look silly...

At the moment I'm reading Panzerkrieg volume 1 German Armoured Operations at Stalingrad by Jason D. Mark, published by Leaping Horseman Books. As all books by this publisher it is very, very good. This volume concentrates on the Panzerabteilungen 103, 129 and 160 during the 1942 summer campaign and the following struggle for Stalingrad. Lots of excellent new pictures and lots of thorough, well researched info. Highly recommended. Volume 2 is in the works and will concentrate on the 16. PzD.
I really hope we will get a Stalingrad module for CM one day. It is such a fascinating period of the war.
