Hi all Just been over to Manx site and CMHQ and been through the stuff on the various Bootcamp/Tactics/Articles/Armour pages. I had forgotten how excellent a resource all this was. Reminds me of the articles in the old AH General and S&T Any other such resources anywhere ? Cheers [ 09-20-2001: Message edited by: Sgt Steiner ]

COMBAT MISSIONS: Quality Control ?
Sgt Steiner replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi Manx To lose your excellent CM site would be a tragedy of similar proprtions to the closing of the ASL2CM site !! Please just try to ignore those causing you the grief (bet very few if any run sites of their own ?). But bottom line do what you feel is best for your own piece of mind. Cheers -
Hi Nice looking grass I think you should definately publish it, looks great from above very textured effect. Cheers

Additional comment re: new features
Sgt Steiner replied to Michael Dorosh's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi Michael
quote:
anyone else have anything to say?[/QB]

Ref the 'map edge creep' you mentioned I recall something about this before and can only offer my previous comment : in a set of Tabletop Minis rules I use (Overlord & Grey Storm Red Steel) the board edge issue is addressed somewhat by having a 'danger-zone' along each board edge wherein troops entering/passing through said zone are subject to possible casualties/damage (simulating off table enemy and/or friendly fire) an abastraction of course but idea has some merit. No idea how 'codable' this would be for CM and if it would lead to a 'Danger-Zone Creep' thread Later Sgt Steiner -

Hi Michael et al Welcome back Sgt Steiner; haven't seen you in awhile. Or maybe I'm just terribly unobservant? I have just been in lurker mode (mainly due to renewed interest in Miniatures Gaming and change in duty shift pattern). Cheers -
Did the Valentine see service in Normandy
Sgt Steiner replied to Hannibal's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi all The late model Valentine XI (mounting same 75mm as in Cromwell) did see limited service in NW Europe. Apparently used as Battery Commanders AFVS in AT Regts (Archers/M10s) and as Artillery Observer OP Tanks. Cant imagine they were very numerous. Later -

Sgt Steiner replied to Franko's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi Franko These scns are very apealing please send a copy thisaway if you please Cheers -
Hi This would indeed be a nice option. I prefer to use ungridded terrain for astehtic appeal but would be nice to have grid at times during plotting phases.

Enemy at the Gates Review
Sgt Steiner replied to CrapGame's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi all Just seen this movie here are a few pros & cons as I see them Pros Excellent sets evocing good atmosphere of Stalingrad. Well done battle/action scenes as per above Some nice touches such as PzIIIs & Sd251s Overall general feeling of destruction of the city and grim conditions of soldiers Tense sniper scenes throughout Top notch acting across the board Cons T34/85s in 1942 (unavoidable perhaps and a minor nit pick) Stereotyped Russians especially Political Officers Somewhat unbelievable/incredulous use of Sasha character Some dire dialogue. .......... Overall more pros than cons for me and I felt I had good value for money. Not a classic (lacked emotional impact of SPR for instance) but a damn fine War Movie lets hope it does well and we see a few more. Cheers Gary Barr ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -
Hi all With regards to Cross Of Iron on Dvd I have 2 versions (along with VHS & Betamax videos !!) A Region 1 version was released some time ago by a company named Hens Tooth however it was in 4:3 aspect ratio and transfer was grainy and generally poor. A new Region 2 (PAL) version has just been released through Warner Bros (& Studio Canal) which is Widescreen (16:9 enhanced) with a vastly superior picture quality sadly the soundtrack is only in Mono. (I got mine thro www.play247.com) Now if they would just release the excellent score on CD (I have an old vinyl LP which just does not cut it nowadays) Cheers [This message has been edited by Sgt Steiner (edited 03-10-2001).]

New HEDGEROW/Bocage Mod
Sgt Steiner replied to Mr. Clark's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi again Mr Clark Yes choosing the 'right' grass would indeed be a problem. And again I agree a bit restrictive what can be acheieved since CM uses this single .bmp to generate the hedges. Can you send me your mod or even just the earthy bit and I will have another try ? Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
