CM Outpost - MAGUA TERRAIN PACK PREVIEW
Sgt Steiner replied to DraGoon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi DraGoon et al Do we NEED another scenery Mod ? hmm..... Do we WANT another scenery Mod ? Oh most definately YES I use Maguas buildings (PzTruppens are good as well) and I think his idea for Scenery packs for differeing regions in CMBO is inspired. The Normandy terrain shots at CM Outpost are almost photorealistic and he must be encouraged (or threatened if needs be !) to complete these Cheers a still drooling Gary Barr ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -

OT: Where did YOU start?
Sgt Steiner replied to Barticus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hi all ahh dont you just love nostalgia threads Just like 'Firefly' (Hi Mike) I started Wargaming when I was 12 (about 1976) with Airfix figures & Roco Minitanks and a classic set of Miniatures rules called 'Battle !' by Charles Grant. Bought my first Board Wargame that year 'PanzerBlitz' closely followed by PzLeader and then Squad Leader (ahh the memories of opening up that beauty for first time !) First PC Wargames were Steel Panthers in 1997 and Eastern Front (actually bought the PC for this one) Am filling up now......sniff......blub... Hi L4Pilot et al This sounds a very interesting project indeed. I would like to considered as a participant. No real preference as to unit or type just give me anything going. Hi AlfieE Would a couple of gentlement be interested in play testing a game I'm putting together about the first battle of Tilly-La-Campagne in July 1944? I would be most grateful to have a copy of this. Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK

OT - Anybody remember this one?
Sgt Steiner replied to Crank_GS's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hi all I played Pattons Best for countless hours ! I loved the way every German Tank started off as a suspect Tiger I recall playing a Campaign naming my crewmen after Hollywood film stars with Steve McQueen as my ace gunner in a 76mm M4A3 who died with the rest of my highly decorated crew when ammo exploded in their Tank (named 'Bullitt') during A German Counterattack....... Great stuff. Loved B17 as well and in particular the Lancaster Variant in one of the General issues........ AH RIP ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -
Hi all well being a relative PC newbie (1998 vintage) I have not heard of most of the titles named in this thread nor indeed many of the 'platforms/machines' they were designed for ! But my own (exculsively PC) list of favs are in no particular order Eastern Front (actually reason I bought a PC) Western Front and surprise surprise : Rising Sun Steel Panthers Over The Reich European Air War Age Of Empires Close Combat : A Bridge Too Far Panzer Commander Caesar III SM Gettysburg All the Battleground Titles and Blade Runner (played this one to death) Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK [This message has been edited by Sgt Steiner (edited 12-02-2000).]

Best DVD War/History movies
Sgt Steiner replied to Red Devils's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hi all Just got a Dvd player lately myself (and ability to watch on PC) have a growing collection of War Movies (swore I would not replace my numerous Videos but cant resist I have 'A Bridge Too Far' which whilst not the best digital transfer ever is still better than Video and the ability to select specific scenes is a boon. Also on Dvd in addition to those already alluded to by others are : Cross Of Iron Bridge At Remagen Dirty Dozen if you like non-WWII titles I can reccomend Waterloo (currently only R2) Gladiator Apocalypse Now Zulu Dawn The Alamo Spartacus Eagle Has Landed (quite poor standard though) Glory Last Valley The Warlord El Cid Lion Of The Desert there are also several WWII documentaries now available on Dvd among which the premier release has to be the complete series of 'The World At War' (a series of several discs) New stuff is being released all the time on the format Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -

Miniature Wargaming.....Dead?
Sgt Steiner replied to The Oak's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hi all Miniature Wargaming is most certainly not dead (not here in UK at least), Computer Wargming is simply another outlet for gamers (and if anything has reduced Board Wargaming to a shadow of its former self). Personally I am happy to play a Wargame on PC, Tabletop or Board but I do agree PC and in particular Pbem has garnered me a lot more opponnents and an International dimension to Wargaming. Hard to beat the tactile feel of Miniatures and the thrill of physically rolling little plastic cubes with number on Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -
Minefields Best Use of.................?

ot Most complex game of all time
Sgt Steiner replied to Hannibal's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hi all my vote for most complex Boardgame (at least that I attempted) goes to AH Anzio with advanced rules. AH Flight Leader comes a close second as I think it would be easier to fly an actual Jet ?? ASL is certainly complex but no more so than SL + all its supplements (GI Anvil Of Victory is essentially a Beta for ASL) Aahh such nostalgia........... Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -
Hi all have lately been playing couple Pbem games with several Minefields therein, however both my opponnents and myself are having difficulty using/deploying them effectively and would value some wisdom from others Manual states units will avoid mines once discovered and I suspect this could be way of channelling enemy movement ?? However I have witnessed Inf units walk through AP mined areas completely unscathed and other run thro same after intial casualties (usually only 1-2 men). Is the detonation of mines random ? Also what is best way to deploy mined areas ? spread apart slightly or close together ? Yours the real and original ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK

First set of Magua's building mods available
Sgt Steiner replied to McAuliffe's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hi all
quote:
They're fantastic, really remind me of the Europe I saw when I was stationed there! .]

Indeed are truly excellent Mod for buildings and I agree with 'Splinty' that this mod renders buildings that have a much more European 'feel' to them. Kudos to Magua for this and indeed to all the authors of Mods out there who have added new dimensions of fun and immersion to this most excellent Wargame Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK -
Hi
quote:
Had some great recommendations on rules and figures from you guys last time. I am going w/ GHQ despite the cost for figures and Spearhead for rules. Now for terrain. What do you like? Do you buy or make your own.

Personally I use a mix of bought and homemade stuff. Dont know which manufacturers you have looked at but the following all do nice ranges some using resin others metal : Hovels Mainly Military Irregular Miniatures for other terrain types try Scenic Accesories S&A Scenics Keep Wargaming Lichen, rubberized foam, pipe cleaners, plasticard, balsa wood etc are all useful items for making terrain. Most Wargames Shops/Stores Mail Order services include various scenic items. Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK

Hi all I would suggest taking a look at: Major General F.W. von Mellenthin's Panzer Battles. It was just rebulished recently by Ballentine Books and is available at a resonable price.
