  1. Hi Mr Clark Yes this is the sort of idea I was looking to encourage. However I feel the earthen bank bit of the bocage needs to emphasized (ie larger/deeper) with grass/foliage covering that contrasts with the upper foliage, I just found it beyond my skills with graphics. Your earth colour is very good. Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  2. Hi Crockett BTW how is Tubbs ? For some good pointers on several CM AFVs check out http://www.combat-missions.net/ which has a section devoted to CM AFVs with profiles and strong/weak points and lots of player comments on their use etc Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  3. Hi all In an earlier thread mention was made that Bocage hedgerows actually consisted of an earthen bank topped by hedges/trees and that the Bocage graphic in CM did not reflect this very well. I made up a quick (and rough) mod using the basic hedge (bmp 1217) with a pasted on earthen bank (taken from a winter plowed field version of wheat bmp 702)then touched up slightly herewith is a screen shot of this I think the hedge is DDs but cant recall whose the other mod author was (so many MOds now !) I put this up to encourage all the excellent terrain 'modders' out there to see if they can do a better job ? I think the earthen bank would benefit from having grass along the bottom and maybe some tufts/sods of grass dotted across it. Am afraid such detail proved beyond my capabilities with MS paint. Oops forgot to mention the earthy bit does of course also show up on the low hedge but looks ok. 4. Hi all Please forgive my technical ignorance here but is it possible to connect two PCs via a serial connection to play CM (ie is that = to a LAN) or is a specific Network card/piece of kit needed on one or both PCs ? Yours from blissful ignorance ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  5. Hi Crepitis Hi Sgt Steiner,I inherited a slightly beat-up Johnny seven from an older cousin.Apart from its huge size(The gun,not my cousin!) the thing I remember best about it was the "ratchet"(bolt?)on the right hand side which I pulled back with some difficuilty, but the resulting noise when you pulled the trigger more than made up for the effort. Yes thats the one with a adjustable grenade launcher on top, a belt of plastic MG ammo a Red rocket/bomb fired from front, a bipod single fire etc sheer bliss [Quote}Thanks for reminding me of the Pupchen thing from the 1/72 Airfix Germans. If memory serves me well there was a little guy to sit on a kind of seat attached to it. Yes there was and the set a a very basic looking PzShrek and PzFaust figs (something the later improved sets lacked). I also had an Atlantic wall set with a different emplacement with 2 Guns Of Navarone type naval gins which also fired matches
  6. Hi all another nostalgia thread are lot enjoying making me feel old ! Airfix I truly believe to be 'responsible' in large degree for the foray into realm of Wargames for vast majority of UK Miniatures gamers I cant think of any (at least of those 25yrs +) who did not start out with the little affordable plastic hordes My 7yr old now has his mitts on my collection of HO/OO (or 'midgies' as we knew them) & 1/32nd Airfix stuff. Anyone remember the original British & German Infantry with really naff poses. The Krauts had a sort of little Pupchen included. I remember getting mine in one of the 'boxed' sets that Airfix produced 'The Gun Emplacment' which included plastic Patton Tanks and an M113 with the WWII figs ! Heres a nostalgia test for the 30+ somethings.........anyone own or remember Johnny Seven ?? Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  7. Hi all FATS stands for Firearms Training Simulators and we use them here in RUC. Our scenarios/situations are Police/Law Enforcement orintated rather than Military. But as our system originated in USA it included a lot of US Police stuff and several Military style target ranges. A good piece of kit but only as good as the effort the blokes using it put in, some seen it as a big video game and therby got little of use from it others like myself found it could simulate at least a little of pressure/stress of drawn Gun situations and just how wildly off-target normally good shots could be !! Have not used it in years and it may indeed be defunct for us now ? Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  8. Hi Kitty & Sgt -dot- Steiner I must second the dopplegangers inquiry please no more 'in progress' screenshots its just plain mean Actually I would DL your MOD as is (hint hint) you can always upgrade it later if needs be ? Cheers the one the only ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  9. Hi Michael et al bit of SL nostalgia for you all Note I had to scan in three bits (and middle bit is a tad schewiff and fuzzy but it will do until you get a better copy) Top third Mid Third Bottom Third Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  10. Hi Joshik Ah but I'm not telling Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK [This message has been edited by Sgt Steiner (edited 02-20-2001).]
  11. Hi all ahh the infamous 'edge of the world' tactics a problem for all wargames be it PC Board or Miniatures Best solution I came across was from a set of Miniatures rules. Basically a zone of 50m or thereabouts along both table edges was declared as a 'danger zone' ie your units could most certainly enter this area but ran the risk of casualties from off-table enemy or off-table friendly fire. Risk was quite small but made players think before committing units to sneaking along the edge. With CM I dont know how doable something like this would be or even if its desirable but food for thought. Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  12. Sorry for Bump ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  13. Hi all Commissars and assorted others Sorry for the mix up and to THE Commissar I still have our game file for when you back up and running. Actually there is another Sgt. Steiner (note subtle . which differs from my plain version)who frequents this forum. Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  14. Hi Joe this sounds like a novel idea ! However does placing roadblocks on rubble not stop Inf etc occuppying the rubble ? I supposse one could do it for some rubbled buildings counting them as to badly rubbled or unsafe to occupy..... 15. Hi Commissar how are you by the way ? Have been using the editor a lot today and found that you can edit names if you open a scn in the editor then select 'Units' then highlight a unit on the OOB menu and at bottom of screen you should see an 'Edit' button this takes you to screen where you can edit various items one being Unit Name (default says Standard change it to Special and edit as you want) Note that CM will not allow you to change ranks for a unit. Cheers Sgt Steiner ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  16. Hi Manx I have tried several times this date to email you 4 small scns I have created for CM (3 based on 'boardgame with no name'). However I have tried sending to sub@combat-missions.net and your manx version but keep getting an immediate 'Undeliverable Mail' message back ? have you another email to submit via ? Had to use this board as no other way to contact you Cheers Gary Barr ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  17. Hi all Personally I am looking forward to using all the 1941 kit. PzIIs Pz38Ts BT series and T28s etc I think these Tanks with puny guns (compared with CMBO stuff) will be great fun on CM battlefields just as many enjoy using the Lynx and Stuart In CMBO. Cant wait to face early T34s and KV1s with lowly PzIIIs etc Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  18. Hi all I just completed 2 scns for CM and am looking victims.....er playtesters to give them a thorough going over. Found both ok to do in terms of maps and OOBs but as to wether they are balanced and suitable therefore for Pbem I cant say ? 1. 'Action At Tessel Bretteville' is a conversion of an old tabletop Miniatures scn I played several times with Brit attack vs German defence. Probaly best as Brit vs AI 2. 'Cold Crocodiles' my attempt at an adaption of a scn from 'that game with no name' (ie Scn A25) with Brit attack vs German defence. No idea as ao balance in this one. If you would like to try these efforts please email me at sgtsteiner@sgtsteiner.worldonline.co.uk and I will send them your way. Please feel free to comment on them good and bad as its only way I will learn. Cheers Gary Barr ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  19. Hi all I seem to recall doing this before many moons ago ? Anyhow here is yours truly on duty at Pres Clintons visit to Belfast back in 1994 Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  20. Hi Michael This is very interesting adapation of the system from 'that game with no name' Am going to try it out in my next fresh Pbem game to see how workable and thereby enjoyable it is ? BTW Did you get those aditional Webpages I sent you after the first and did the open and view ok ? Cheers Gary Barr ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK
  21. Hi all Now I wonder from whence came my 'handle' ? Cheers ------------------ Sgt Steiner Belfast NI UK [This message has been edited by Sgt Steiner (edited 02-14-2001).]
