  1. Wow... Life got in the way, and I've been away from the board for quite some time. But I see that with this board, the more things change, the more they stay the same... This looks fantastic. I am really looking forward to it. Keep up the good work.
  2. Got to have positive waves Matt, positive waves... It's a muthabeautiful demo and it will get there. Had three takers. 2 successful deliveries and 1 rejected for exceeding allowable message size by recipient's mailserver. Took under ten minutes to get it the first two, and the undeliverable message took 13 minutes to return to me. And thanks for yet another amazing game. The old lady is really pissed.
  3. My e-mail server is notan ISP, and it isn't serving 1000 people at the same time = No interruptions half way thru.....
  4. As an attempt to "pay it forward", or so to speak, I will check this board at 10:00 pm eastern US time (got to try the demo out myself first, heh heh heh...), and try to e-mail the demo to people who indicate their mail server will accept a 95mb attachment. I can send it, but only in one piece, as I have no idea how to split it up. You can reply to this thread with your addy, and I'll put you on the cc: to my mail. Hope this can help someone out, as I was anonymously helped out with CMBB.
  5. I've had a 20mm halftrack KO two planes in one battle versus the Allies, so I tend to buy at least one AA weapon in every battle. They are a hindrance to accuracy at the very minimum.
  6. I read it, and, recognizing your enthusiasm for the game based on your recent posts, thought I was quite restrained in my response. The only way your technique would work against a human player would be on a flat map, with no terrain features, no fog, and the allied player buying a horde of M8 GMCs (aka the "M8 Horde") hoping he could rout the Volkssturm off of the map. Any competent human player could make this game interesting with little difficulty if there was a way to shield the troops from direct sp gun fire, which most maps have either through woods, hills, cities, or all of the above. He is not going to let his troops stand still in the open and get pounded until the other infantry shows up to wipe them out. He is going to maneuver his units out of LOS of the SPGs and make the SPGs work to get good targets. The process of trying to line up good targets is going to get some of the SPG's killed. Volkssturm have tons of schrecks and open top M8's can die from just a hand grenade.... A battalion of volkssturm is a lot of squads to keep track of and destroy. Not too long ago, someone (Kitty, perhaps?) was entertaining the board by decimating armored assaults with nothing but Volkssturm and some barbed wire and/or roadblocks, I think. She was writing some interesting AAR's and it showed some new tactics. Set up a qb, and pick the volkssturm force with some roadblocks and an spg heavy force for the allies. Then you play as the Axis. Bet you give the AI a pretty good run for its money with just those volkssturm, even if you don't force it to surrender outright
  7. Seems to me that if you are trying to defeat a Volkssturm-only force with sp guns and tanks, you are going to run out of HE shells long before they run out of squads with panzerfausts and panzerschrecks.
  8. Zitadelle, No, that is a seperate beast, according to Doyle and Chamberlain, which was edited by Jentz. According to them, there were 128 L61 units based on the VK 3001(H) Chassis, which was supposed to replace the Pz IV, I believe. Achtung Panzer Link
  9. Doesn't the Chamberlain and Doyle book indicate that two of these were mounted on Pz IV chassis and tested on the eastern front? I remember reading that one was captured intact by the Russians with something like 22 kill rings on the barrel and is now in a museum somewhere over there.
  10. Stuarts and M8HMCs. Hordes of them. 81mm mortar spotters for smoke barrages. See his armor, smoke the hell out of it, and then race in for the fun. You will run circles around him, probably lose a few units in the mix, but at least you'll have a chance to kill some of them. 3 sides of the Panther are soft. You only have to get to 1 of them.
  11. Hmmmmph....... A real Finn wouldn't have needed that many FOs. They would have used rocks or snowballs or wads of rolled up toilet tissue.
  12. Wasn't it OB&G who was beating everybody up in CMBO until he fessed up that he had fog of war set to "off" while whoever he was playing had it "on" ??? Ah, the good old days.
  13. Hello gang, I'm purchasing a new PC in the immediate future, and I have a pretty good idea what I am looking for. It will be primarily a gaming machine, with the bulk being CMBB and the rest being some Battlefield 1942 and MOHAA, etc. I've received some helpful advice from jwxspoon and some other members that have given me a good framework for the basics of what I should look for. That being said, 2 issues keep bothering me. First, I have always used Intel processors. With the cost difference now being little, is there any advantage/disadvantage to either going with an Athlon or new Intel chips? For example, any motherboard issues I should be aware of? I'm not looking for any Intels Suck/Rule or Athlons Suck/Rule comments, just trying to get a better grip on why I should buy DDR or SDRAM or RDRAM, etc. Second, and this is probably the kicker, Radeon or GeForce? I know the Fog issue exists with ATI, and NVidia drivers are a pain in the A$$, but is the Radeon that much better? I rarely play with fog, but does the smoke look good with the Radeon? Is it that much better with BF1942, etc? Thanks for any input, and anyone can e-mail me with their thoughts too. Thanks again. Paul
  14. Are you sure about that? I was messing around with some Sturmtigers and a Russian Battalion or 3, and a shot from a Sturmtiger that was parked about 15 meters behind a house blew up the house as it shot out of the barrel, and then continued on its merry way to immolate a company of conscripts. Can't figure out how it happened. Was it the exhaust gasses from the barrel, or did the flight of the round actually carry the shell path through the house? I don't know. I can tell you, though, there was no russian artillery, no armor, no air strikes, nothing that the infantry carried that could take out a house from 300 meters away. I am positive of this because I picked the forces for both sides. Wish I still had the video from that turn. So, weird things happen in CMBB.
  15. Thanks for the tip. Nice to know it is in there. Mine was in CMBO, but I had yet to see it in CMBB, which is probably a good thing, as every time my evil twin appeared on the battlefield, he proceeded to lead his pixelated pals to their usually quick deaths.
