  1. I would think that the specs you posted would handle CMX2. It's overkill for the current CM engine. How much does this system cost?
  2. I finally got around to setting up a test for this. I created a scenario in which a single Tiger I was sitting with its side to a slight crest that was approximately 550m away. Behind the crest were 4 T-34/76's, 1 KV-1, 1 SU-85, and 1 KV-85. There were no terrain features other than the crest which I had created in the editor so the map was boring to look at. I played the scenario in head to head mode so that I could keep the Tiger buttoned up and stupid with its side facing the ridge. I often issued orders to the Tiger to rotate and fire smoke towards the side of the map thereby keeping its side facing the ridge. None of the Russian tanks had tungsten rounds, just regular AP. The results were interesting. Most of the 76mm rounds bounced but a few penetrated. The 85mm faired a bit better at this range but not much. There were many shots fired and I did not count them all but approximately one out of every ten rounds found its way into the Tiger. To be fair, less than 10% of the rounds fired found there way in at 550m. When I brought the Tiger in so that it was 450m away the penetrations increased slightly for the 76mm's and markedly for the 85mm's. I wanted to get the most shots that I could for the Russian tankers on the Tiger. When I created the scenario I selected crack crews for the Russians. The Tiger was a Veteran but in retrospect, I should have made it Regular or Green to slow its response time so that it wouldn't turn and face the ridge so quickly. Anyway, there were penetrations but the percentage of penetrations was small. I think that I may be unlucky as I stated earlier in the thread that I lost Tiger I's to 76mm's on a regular basis. I wasn't embellishing, I'm just not good at CM and probably use the Tiger a little too boldly. But one thing I'm not doing is spreading bull. I have the scenario that I used if anyone would like a copy of it. The ridge is set up so that you could pull the Tiger tank in another 200m if you wanted to. My version of CMBB is fully patched. 3. I will try to get some images up with and without the mipmapping this weekend. I'm having a busy week. Hang in there.
  4. I did a search on "mipmap" in the tech forum and most of what I read suggested that having this set to the highest detail level would improve the visual aspect of CM. I certainly found this to be the case as my mipmapping was turned off and after I turned it on, everything looked a bit better, especially things that were distant. This may just be me, but it also seemed that the turns seemed to calculate much quicker. The initial blue bar went really fast. Anyway, barring nobody posting any details about this, I'm leaving mipmapping set to trilinear.
  5. I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the mipmaps setting on a video card. The possible settings for this feature are none - Do not force mipmaps bilinear - Force bilinear mipmaps which reult in slightly better image quality with a smaller impact on performance. trilinear - much better image quality with an impact on performance. My card is a Chaintech Nvidia GeForce Ti4600 128MB 4XAGP What exactly does this do? Thanks for your knowledge in advance.
  6. I'll double check this tonight. It should be fun to set this up. I'll design a scenario that will put the T-34/76's in a great position to whack the Tiger from the side. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks
  7. Thanks for posting these stories. Very interesting.
  8. Given existing hardware abilities, and the suggested system requirements for CMX2, I would venture to hope that this will be incorporated in the next iteration. </font>
  9. Good choice. Looking forward to these. What style of camo will you be using for these vehicles? Good luck!
  10. Have you applied the patches? I have lost Tigers to 85mm's at ranges greater than 500m and to 76.2's from the side at 500m and closer. If its vulnerable Tiger's you're looking for, play CMBO. I used to lose Tiger tanks to Stuart 37mm's frontally at 300m. All of a sudden that little Stuart would catch sight of the Tiger and start to back off at speed, popping rounds as it went and sure as hell - POP! Penetration at weak point - scratch one Tiger.
  11. I must be in the same cult that you are. I lose Stugs and Tigers to T-34-76's on a regular basis playing against the AI. But then again, I stink at this game. I love it, but I stink at it. I always like to go back to the historical aspect/context of the battles. When I play a QB and I am playing the Germans, and I pick a Tiger, I make sure the Soviets have 12-15 tanks to go against my Tiger. If you are playing scenarios with the Russians and have three T-34's against one Tiger...uhhhh...yeah, you are going to get your head handed to you. Remember, when that Tiger gets knocked out, historically it didn't get replaced with another Tiger. It got replaced by a grenadier with a panzerfaust. When the Russians lost a T-34, it was replaced by a brand new tank, maybe even a better tank. Russian losses never bother me. If anything is overmodeled in the game its the way the score is tabulated when taking losses into account for the Russian player. As the Russian player, if I start out the scenario with 20 T-34's and gain my objectives but end up with two surviving tanks, I WON! Especially in light of the fact that every tank I lost will be replaced. Ditto for the infantry. The same can't be said for the German player.
  12. This is a fine piece of work here Gordon. This King Tiger will be rolling across my 21" Sony Trinitron. Thanks!
  13. If I'm not mistaken, these times are the best.
  14. After my motherboard died, I decided to upgrade my machine. I just tried this benchmark test again and was happy with the results. My times were: 47, 50, 48, 43, 44 for an average of 46.4 My rig currently: ABIT motherboard 400 FSB AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2GHZ Kingston 3200 HyperX RAM 1GB Chaintech GeForce Ti4600 128MB 4X AGP 2 x Western Digital HD 80GB 7200RPM 8MB cache A few seconds better than previously.
  15. What great news! I will continue to keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers.
  16. I think the market they are trying to hit with this type of item is reenactors. Some of the bigger reenacting events have flea markets where companies like Belle & Blade set up tables and sell this stuff. The original poster mentioned a bumber sticker. I've seen magnets, the same size and shape as the Waffen SS divisional insignia painted on armor, being sold at events. Not that white supremacist types wouldn't get their wallets out for a shirt like the one in the link you posted, but I think the primary audience for this merchandise is reenactors.

  18. Great job with this one! This will go down as one of the classic must-have mods. Can't wait to download this one.
  19. Thanks for the info about the new driver. I am trying to download it from the Nvidia website but am having a hard time getting it all down. It freezes up at various points in the download process. I'll get it sooner or later. Thanks again.
  20. Wow! Great job! This one is a real beauty. Can't wait to get it in game. Thanks.
  21. Looks good. I'll be downloading these when they are ready. Thanks for the great work.
  22. If you can get your hands on a movie called, "Men Against Tanks" you see how these magnetic mines were employed. This video is actually a German training film from the war which shows a staged Russian attack on a dug in defensive line. The Germans must have used captured T-34's and a captured KV-1 as well as the Russian uniforms.
