  1. You probably didn't notice that your panzer was commanded by the infamous Herr Friedrich Von Dingeldorf, notorious village idiot of Dumkopf Strasse in Germering. Whenever I fire up a scenario and see this guy sitting in the top hatch of one of my panzers I just end the game and start over. Uhhh...just kidding...
  2. I had the same motherboard and just swapped it out for a Chaintech. I believe the top end on the bus for this board is 333mhz.
  3. I never had the locking up problem but I did have a slow boot-up problem and in the system event viewer I was seeing a similar driver related DCOM error. The problem ended up being the driver that I was using for my video card was not Microsoft Certified. It was a beta release version of the soon to be certified driver. My system specs are similar to yours. Your rig is a little more powerful than mine: AMD XP 2800+ Thoroughbred Core 2.25ghz Chaintech 7NJL1 Apogee Motherboard Nforce2 chipset 1GB Kingston PC2700 RAM in dual channel mode Chaintech GeForce Ti4600 video card 128MB One thing to note, the processor, motherboard and memory in my setup are all operating at the same 333mhz speed. Not sure if that could make a difference. Good luck.
  4. Thanks junk2drive. I have been running for some time with only two modules and have an idea what that is like. I am going to put back in the third memory module and see what difference, if any, there is.
  5. I'm bumping this one again for more input. Another question came to me when I was reviewing this thread. What is meant by matched pairs? Do you have to purchase the memory in matched pairs in order for dual DDR to be enabled or can I buy the same manufacturer, same speed, same memory capacity as individual modules? Thanks
  6. I think the only folks that can answer this question work at BFC. Many a time have I lost a perfectly good tank hunter team to a tank that just turns its main cannon and BOOM...two dead tank hunters. That grenade bundle must be in the bushes somewhere...Oh! Here it is next to the two dead bodies!
  7. Ditto. Still playing it after all this time. In fact CMBB and CMAK are the only games on my $2000+ rig. Set it up just to play these games without any hassles. Really is an incredible game.
  8. Just a quick comment. Just saw this mod and picked it up. MikeyD's mods are great and all most of them need is a bit of weathering and dirt, which is what it looks like you are doing here. Thanks for this and keep smacking that filth onto MikeyD's tremendous work. I can't believe after all this time that this game just keeps getting better!
  9. Great mod. Really liked the partial skirt. Thanks.
  10. Saw some of the pictures on links that were posted. This must have been great fun to go and see.
  11. I don't blame you one bit. I would rather spend the money on an upgrade as well. In my case, the machine was plenty fast for what I'm using it for. I just wanted to cool it off a bit. Just thought I would throw in what worked in that area for me. Good luck with your project.
  12. I just upgraded some of the cooling elements in my machine. I recently upgraded the motherboard and the new board came with a temperature display box that slips into a 5 1/4" bay. The CPU was running at 70C and the max is 85C. I threw in a better CPU fan and a few more case fans and used arctic silver 5 on it. It dropped it down to a range of 50C to 55C when all of the fans are cranked and about 60C to 63C when all of the fans are set to their minimum speed. I would have to say the CPU fan and the arctic silver paste dropped it appreciably. The only problem is when all of the fans are cranked my PC sounds like a vacuum.
  13. Now this is comedy under the big top! LOL! </font>
  14. These are excellent! Thank you for your hard work.
  15. Check the thread with the diagram of how to knock out a Ferdinand tank destroyer. As I pointed out in that thread, the one method that was missing was the "banana in the tailpipe" trick. Although the Russians had a hard time getting their hands on bunches of bananas, the Western Front Allies had them in abundance. Hence their success with dealing with the potent King Tiger. Also I believe following Sergei's line of flawless logic and extensive research, squirrels love bananas. If the banana didn't do it the hordes of banana loving squirrels would be sure to take out the lumbering menace. Whew! Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
  16. You may have hibernated during school biology lessons. If squirrels hibernate, then why do they collect seeds and nuts all the summer into hidey holes? Or why change the colour of fur? So yes, clearly it must have been squirrels that stopped the Ardennes offensive. Another proof of this is that Ardennes is a forested area, and squirrels are abundant in forests. </font>
  17. That's why they used a squirrel with an 89mm nut in the first place! The squirrel was just the right size to fit into an 88mm gun yet too big for a 76mm gun, and the nut (aka. "gun nut") obviously wouldn't get stuck in a 122mm gun. Gee MikeyD, you should do some research before posting! The gun nut squirrels only became obsolete as the Germans learned to cover their tanks with a peanut paste called as "Zimmenut" which was enough to distract the squirrels from the gun. </font>
  18. Yeah I saw that. I wonder what the differences will be vs the civilian version? Maybe they'll tell us (ahem...nudge-nudge). Interesting stuff.
  19. You were dead on. I did not load the drivers that came with the motherboard and that caused the problem. I had actually shut off the native video and sound in the BIOS but not loading the drivers that were on the CD caused this problem. I went home for lunch and loaded up the drivers on the CD and now both games respond immediately. Thanks for your help!
  20. Windows XP Pro was a fresh install to a brand new hard drive. I believe that I did instal lthe mainboard drivers but I'll double check that. This particular board has unified on-board sound and video drivers. I purposely did not put them on because I wanted to use better cards that I had. Should I install the unified drivers anyway? Thanks for responding.
  21. I recently upgraded my motherboard. I had an ASUS A7V8X with the KT400 chipset and went to a Chaintech Apogee 7NJL1 with an Nvidia NForce2 chipset. My machine's specs are quite good. Won't get into the component details but very powerful. I noticed since I upgraded the motherboard that when I start up CMAK and CMBB it takes longer for the main screen to display and the music to start. The screen goes black and there is a "pregnant pause" if you will. Anyone have any input on this one? Figured it was just the way the new motherboard handled it. With the older ASUS board the screen and sound fired up immediately. I'm not unhappy with the upgrade and once the game is up it actually runs a bit better but what's with the delay?
  22. Personal opinion. The stock graphics I feel are pretty darn good certainly from a historical perspective. I also find myself caught up in the "more mods than play" spiral. The modders in the CM community do such good work and make the CM environment so much better looking it's incredible. I don't think too much about once I mod this tank or that terrain that I'll have to start doing everything in the game. Instead, I am content to find a good mod and know that that particular visual will be better than it was. It just keeps getting better one tank at a time or one terrain element at a time or one uniform at a time. For me, there are far too many great mods not to try to make it look better. Take a look at Michael Dorosh's ASL line of mods. Neat stuff indeed. I think they place the emphasis more on the tactical element of the game much like ASL, Panzerblitz, Panzer Leader. I think this is kinda nice as well because if you think about the various units within the game, vehicles seem to be one-for-one while infantry are more abstracted, 3 men shown for a 9 to 12 man squad. Kinda like ASL, Panzerblitz, Panzer Leader in that one counter=multiple occurences of the unit represented. I think there is something to be said for that. I'm thinking about downloading his mod sets and creating an alternate BMP folder just to check it out.
