  1. Dey, Thanks for the advice. No hardware or software upgrade was made. From one boot-up to the next it just did not come up. As I had stated, the machine ran beautifully for eight months and that was after I upgraded to the Chaintech motherboard. Thanks again. I will make sure that I try the things you listed.
  2. My super-fast machine crapped out and neither I nor the local PC repair shop can figure out what is causing the problem. From one boot-up to the next it will not come up. When I hit the power button, the lights and fans start up and the hard drive light and CD-ROM drive lights go on and stay on. The monitor never gets off of the 'No Signal Detected' message. After attempting to fix it for the better part of a day and only succeeding in pissing myself off for the holidays, I dropped it off at the local PC repair shop. To my dismay, they also could not get it to work. I have just purchased a new motherboard, power supply, hard drive, and cables. I bought the same exact board that I had initially and dropped that off at the PC repair shop and that also did not help so I am sending that Chaintech back and I have purchased an Abit board. This time I went with a Seagate drive and Vantec power supply. Have to see how that works out. Obviously with this new gear, I will have to reinstall the operating system and everything else but I have all of my Combat Mission mods backed up so no problems there. The PC repair shop swapped out the video card, ram, and processor and tried them in other machines and said that they worked fine so I'm hoping that these components are ok. They also tried different cables to eliminate the possibility that it might be a bad cable somewhere. The specs for my currently dead machine are: AMD XP 2800+ Thoroughbred Core 2.25ghz Chaintech 7NJL1 Apogee motherboard Kingston Ram PC2700 333 1.5GB (3 512mb sticks) Chaintech GeForce Ti4600 128mb video card 2 Western Digital Hard Drives 80GB's each 7200RPM with 8mb cache Thermaltake XASER Power supply 480 watts Sony 52X CD-ROM drive Sony CDRW/DVD-R drive Creative Labs Soundblaster 5.1 Gamer card US Robotics Internal Modem 3Com NIC Card Hope I haven't forgotten anything. If anyone has any ideas/notions about what might be wrong, feel free to post. It's the strangest thing, it ran like a demon for about eight months and then...nothing. Thanks all! Everyone have a great New Year, especially the folks at Battlefront!
  3. Can you provide a link to the Scenario Depot site? I would like to try this scenario. It sounds like fun. Thanks
  4. Good point. He was a bit of a strategical dope and a thorn in his military commander's sides at that late hour in the war.
  5. Thanks for this one. Very nice. Love the Soviet logos on the sides of the Sherman turrets.
  6. I like large maps using about 1250 points. I usually defend as Germans in mid to late 44. I give the Russians +25% - +50% advantage. 30+ to 35+ turns is usually long enough to get a couple of trench lines in trouble. My one or two panzers are usually in flames by the end of it all. Sometimes I surprise myself and open up a can of whoop-ass on the AI. That happens when the QB lays out a terrain that is easy to defend.
  7. I am very much looking forward to these buildings. Didn't realize that they were in the works. This is a good Christmas present! Thanks!
  8. If you can afford a higher end power supply, try to get one. Many new cases come with a 420W power source. If you have a hot CPU, requiring some additional cooling fans AND you have a hungry video card, Ti4200 or better, a robust power supply is a good idea. Obviously, in the end you will have to weigh what's in your wallet. A beefy power supply never finds itself anemic no matter how many goofy little cards and fans you end up sticking into the case but a whimpy power supply will just cause problems if it gets overburdened. 3GHZ processor! I envy you. My AMD XP 2800+ is clocked at 2.25GHZ and I thought I had allot of horsepower. Good luck!
  9. I have this great video called, "Men Against Tanks". German training video. Pick it up if you can get a copy.
  10. I started playing Combat Mission on a machine that had an ATI video card, I think at the time it was a 7500. Quite a while ago in any case. Once I found out that ATI cards could not handle the fog in CM, I quickly switched to a GeForce Ti4600. I have never regretted the switch. The ATI card worked just fine with all of the other attributes of CM and other games but it did not show the fog. For me, a self professed CMaholic, that was enough reason to go get an Nvidia card. If I were in the market for a card today, I would still buy an Nvidia card, probably one of the higher end FX cards if I couldn't get my hands on another Ti4600. Good luck with whatever card you choose.
  11. That sounds like great reading. Is it still possible to get copies of those magazines?
  12. My solution to this was to buy multiple copies of the game. This way no matter what system I'm on at the time, I'm not without CM. A little zany I'll admit but I'm a CMaholic.
  13. I'll put Matthew on the prayer list at my church.
  14. I have lost unbuttoned tanks to large caliber artillery shell hits. I lost a PZ IVH the other night playing against the AI. The tanks were advancing and suddenly the shells started falling about half way through the turn and I heard the boys in black cry out and then abandon their panzer.
  15. More winners. Just got em. Winter battles are looking better already on the dangerous Ost Front!
  16. Good one. Generally speaking the later Ti series cards like Ti4200, Ti4400, Ti4600, Ti4800 are good bets. There were some driver issues a while back but with the latest round of Nvidia drivers most of the major issues have been resolved and now the FX series of Nvidia cards also work without a hitch. As far as the Wildcat VP990 card you refer to...uhhhh...never heard of it. If you need it for work then you need it for work but I wouldn't expect any smashing results with CM or any other game for that matter. More than likely, companies producing gaming software are making sure their products run on the big two, Nvidia and ATI. In any case, good luck!
