  1. That makes sense... Realistic or not, my rule of thumb is to have every (modern) rifleman have 300+ rounds (since they have autofire capability) and have an additional 750-1000 rounds carried by the squad for (each of) its MG(s) for 350m+ range fire. If WW2 era, I want my SMG guys with at least 300 rounds plus extra - the assumption is that the squad will happily carry an extra SMG magazine each. In my WW2 games, non-auto riflemen rarely use more than 100 rounds each.
  2. That begs another question, is it "gamey" to load up with max ammo load? Sometimes I wonder if in RL, troops do go back to resupply rather than have half a dozen guys carry 5K+ rounds. (I know there is a max AT rocket load. But, I don't think I have ever reached the max small arms ammo load.)
  3. And to think I was thinking of getting a boring old boat! And I didn't know it could compete with low riders with pneumatic risers!!!! All it needs is a custom paint job and it would be ready for South Central. Brilliant!
  4. Lovely... But, maybe tone down the relatively bright/colorful markings. Should be barely able to see em.
  5. He did say "out of work" as in no more ammo to carry. Using em as medics makes sense. But, I find it gamey to use specialized crews and valuable HQ units as scouts - did that actually happen with any regularity? That's another good thing about campaigns where replacements are limited - you don't want to lose valuable units to do dangerous duty they were not designed for.
  6. "It seems you and I have similar play styles, preferring a careful advance with few casualties and always in need of just a little more time... " Ditto - I really liked this approach. One can roleplay that it's one's own life at risk out there, and that's how a "human" soldier would behave. Hope that designers incorporate more penalties for losing friendlies - as we had in CMSF.
  7. I was imagining an exciting simulation of rear HQ work in England as one roleplays Patton moving a few units around some fields to simulate a decoy army while the Nazis use drones to spot em. You can use CMBS drones in CMBN, right?
  8. Recon by MG fire is always a good idea. But, it's common that one has limited ammo. How do you balance that? Also, re "RL tactics" vs "computer game tactics", was recon by fire (ie: area fire) used that often? I wait till I see some sort of contact b4 area firing.
  9. Good to hear. I very much enjoyed the first one.
  10. I know this isn't the right place for a discussion about immigrants to the UK. But, am there (UK) right now, and I can assure you many people I know here are very angry that their legitimate concerns about being overwhelmed by immigrants have been ignored for many years by the "cappuccino swilling, au pair and maid hiring class" as some wag put it. Hence the vote to "Leave" regardless of other consequences.
  11. Surely he meant use the combo as a satchel charge. (Can't shoot a propane tank out of a 81mm barrel can you?)
  12. I always position arty fire in set-up phase as it can be placed anywhere - but with a delay. My plan is to get scouts to the target area b4 delay runs out. If there are no enemy, you can cancel or adjust the fire (need to get one or more FO's up front as well). Of course if there is enemy, you have accurate barrage ready to go.
  13. Great camera work, editing and focus technique to make the scenes so RL looking. Maybe the best CM2 cinematic sequence so far. Good job!
  14. Sgt Squarehead: How is this going? Hope you haven't burned out....
  15. One doesn't even need campaigns. We can get essentially the same motivator by penalizing friendly casualties to a much greater extent, so one has to be conservative to get any sort of victory. If you played CMSF, the scoring system persuaded players to be very conservative quite nicely.
  16. "And if you forget to cancel the wedge formation when they get up to the hedgerow, they won't take the good firing positions there if they maintain their formation." That sort of "automation" requirement is exactly what computers are supposed to handle with programming. CM2 troops already behave semi-realistically. The above example would be an extension.
  17. It's unfortunate that the UKR leaders are just as corrupt as anyone else. So, it's a conflict between oligarchs.
  18. That's interesting as I have never been able to recrew a tank with another crew. Is that something to do with a new patch?
  19. Ah yes of course. All those books blend together in my memory banks.
  20. Thanks. So one saves as a bmp and put in Z folder, or are these only for game design use?
  21. It's all a matter of preference of course, but RT also benefits wrist-twitchers. Us oldsters don't have the reaction speeds. I recall loving RT when CM1 first came out in 1999(?). Then fell in love with larger scenarios which require WEGO.
  22. I think it tries to install to the BF default install path. If you have a different path you need to copy the files into the correct folders manually. At least that is what I had to do. Wish BF would give us a choice (ie: able to "BROWSE") of install path with patches.
