  1. Enjoyed playing this (and replaying) altho' due to work have only got halfway so far. I wasn't sure if I needed to leave units at the "fort" or not, so replaying it. *********** SPOILER ************ Oddly/luckily the first time I played, (playing carefully) I used smoke to obscure the crossing point and my first small teams got across. The rest crossed after the smoke had dissipated and that's when a team got blowed up. (That was depressing as I had been very careful to that point .) I assumed that it was an IED which detonated when the triggerman has LOS to the crossing point. If it is a triggered IED, then smoke is essential when crossing restricted chokepoints. If it's a mine, it hard to see how anyone could accomplish this with 0 casualties as someone posted earlier.
  2. Yeah, I hope you keep the faith on this one. I have to get familiar with Win 10 plus catch up on urgent work after being away for so long. So haven't yet had time or energy to reinstall all the titles. It's killing me not to be able to help you or Koh with his new project. But, life etc...l;
  3. Would have been nice to maintain a list of requests over the years. So, a newbie could simply add his, her or its request like a vote.
  4. Thank you, George. Yeah, I have to catch up on work, so have yet to start on the onerous reinstall of every CM title (since 1999). But, I am downloading all new mods as they get released.
  5. It's the sort of music "Oddball" would like - calms the nerves so the gunner can have a steady aim.
  6. Arghhhh... I still have not yet reinstalled ANY of the CM games (all the way from CM1)... Been away for over 3 months and have to get biz stuff done first.
  7. Are those links at the bottom of your post for the most recent v of the Hurtgen mods and scenarios? Or are there more recent versions at CMMODS and TSD? Thanks Kph.
  8. Just got back and having to reinstall into new computer. Is there a new version for KG Schroif? Date?
  9. "...big community made scenarios or campaigns are going to be no more." Agreed. I hope there is a market for BF to produce good campaigns that feature huge scenarios that we can buy as modules. (And one can always extract the missions and pay individual scenarios if one prefers standalone missions.)
  10. If you can't get anyone else, give me a week to get my new computer running (nightmare with MS tech support currently).
  11. 1) Good that it's a huge map as in the usual smaller maps there is little function for vehicular recon - best to dismount and recon on foot right at the start imo. 2) In your instance, the vehicular recon should scout at high speed (harder to hit) until it gets to a likely ambush point, and then yes, dismount and carefully recon on foot.
  12. Thank you Kevin. So I found 3 scenarios: Railway Station, Restless Night and Anno Domini. Is that everything?
  13. Yes, I still enjoy playing CMSF - perhaps as it's the only CM2 game that largely features long ranges - and forces one to conserve troops. The predominantly short ranges and bloodiness of the CM2 titles and even CMBS makes all those titles tend to blend together so it's hard to tell one from the other.
  14. Motherboards melting and losing your house are extreme altho "realistic" re consequences heh. But, in an online game I could see losing $1 per WIA and $2 for a KIA would be more than sufficient to motivate realistic behavior. I like to think that I take care of my guys, but most/many WW2 scenarios force one to fight to the death to get a win. I very much enjoyed (and still do) CMSF as most scenarios punished even minimal casualties quite severely with penalty points. (Not sure about CMBS.)
  15. Yes I would... But, I still have to reinstall a LOT of software and games, (+ your huge mod sets - really want to play Stalingrad now computer can handle it!) get e-mail sorted out and stuff. (Had nightmare issues already with MS tech support.) Life, computers and game installs seemed to be so simple in the old days... I may be ready to play next week.
  16. Having to reinstall everything into new computer. The Stalingrad map and Umlaut's mod were too much for the old one. Where can I get the scenarios for this? I tried the links to AFGM etc, but didn't see where the scenarios were listed. Any direct links?
  17. I would love to, koh. Have to meet a new computer when I get back in a couple of days that will need breaking in. Should be in a better position to test in about a week if still needed.
  18. man, I love those long range vistas! Have gotten burned out on the usually point blank 200-400m battles that all CM2 games specialize in (other than CMSF of course). All those series now feel the same. Can't believe that there isn't a large enuff market for N. Africa to justify a module.
  19. Thank you. Looking forward to reinstalling when I get home.
  20. Well yes, that was my understanding - that the Germans wanted to have a lot of kinetic material heading downrange in the shortest possible time. Others are saying that is not actually effective and that lower ROF is better. My question to them is were the Germans just plain wrong in their assessment of the need for the MG42's high ROF?
  21. Seems like a common issue and recurring question. I think someone posted that a squad split into teams will fit into a shellhope or foxhole, but not if united as a squad. So, split into teams so they fit. Makes no sense. My assumption used to be that the guys who are not in a shellhole or foxhole are actually calculated as being protected and it was only a graphics limitation to show them outside. However, people tell me that those guys are actually (dangerously) exposed. So, be careful.
  22. Am doing a complete reinstall. Are the above 3 downloads the latest files and everything I need? Also, where do I get your version of zip? Has anyone else used it and can confirm it's safe. (Can't figure out the advantage of using these obscure forms of zip which are not universally used.) Thank you...
  23. Yeah, was about to go to bed when Turkey suddenly flooded the foreign news airwaves (not so much the UK-based news surprisingly). Turned into another late night. /) Re news quality: In Europe I learned to watch RT and Al Jazeera for good international news. The BBC and other UK outlets have become almost useless - last week it seemed like 90% of British "news" was about tennis, football and other sports as if there was nothing else going on in the world. Re your mission, I would caution about creating a scenario that the player will "lose" if you mean the end result is a Victory "loss" with no way of winning. Even if the enemy succeeds in whatever it's trying to do cos the player is in an impossible situation, the player should still have a good (better than 80%) opportunity to secure some sort of "win". It's very frustrating for players otherwise. We players feel we have to keep replaying to get a "win" since we're used to the idea that a "win" is always possible. And replaying missions repeatedly was well-known to the ancients as the devil's route to hades. Am certain that old testament specifically mentions this.
