  1. I have relatives in Finland and I didn't know about it. Congratulations!
  2. Re a new explosion mod, it would be wonderful to have the above version as well as a circular version so players could decide which they like more. If one is going to be using a lot of arty, generally that is an inf-heavy scenario. In that instance the above explosion would be the best mod.
  3. Ok, now I unnerstand... Genius actually...
  4. It's been a while since I played a CM1 campaign vs AI, but IIRC this is how CM1 handled it. The majority of forces were in the new set up zone and the player could reposition as desired. However, a few units which had previously been advanced forward of the player's main force into "no man's land" would be found set up in non-movable starting positions (possibly behind enemy lines).
  5. +1 Even though ones gets hostile reactions from some here whenever one talks about wonderful aspects of CM1, the virtual operational scale of CM1 (8 Km x 4 Km maps and a Regiment + on each side) is what keeps some of us still playing over at WeBoB. At that level, mobility and recon become much more important as one doesn't have a fixed front line and one can get a much more fluid mobile game. We'd need more powerful computers top play that scale in CM2, and due to CM2's greater detail it may not be playable (in a reasonable amount of time) with that many units. But, the moving window effect that CM1 operations has would be wonderful to see in CM3.
  6. "...a choice to commit friendly reserves for a point penalty or fight on with out committing them." So, you can withhold committing reserves to gain additional victory points? Or, commit reserves and lose VP's? I recall hoping this would be in CM3. This feature is available in CM2??
  7. Others have more knowledge than I do re this. But, you should be able to activate all CM2 titles (except for CMSF which has a max of 2 activations) multiple times and no need to de-activate non-needed copies (IIRC). If you are having problems on a 2nd computer make sure that your security software is not interfering.
  8. Really glad someone raised this as I have been very confused about this in other similar "recon" missions. The player should know if he's spotted a target unit just like we're notified by text when we reach a "Touch" objective.
  9. Ah... looks like a Saturday night outside my dorm at Uni...
  10. Thank you, guys. Will delete the Installer...
  11. I have v2.10 installed (working fine) and I just noticed that I have "v2.10 Patch Installer" in my downloads folder. Can't recall if I executed that. How can one tell if one has the patch, or will it not matter if I try to run the patch .exe and I already have done so months ago?
  12. Another fascinating and impressive briefing from this chap about Rommel vs The Desert Fox myth: Am hoping he's done one of modern Russian small unit tactics as am having a hard time with CMBS - can't believe the typical massive casualties suffered in CMBS (when I play) can be correct. So far can't find one.
  13. Good info and some good links to his (many) other useful briefings. Was fascinated by the German AT team tactics. Unlike in the game it seems that the Germans didn't just send out 2 man tank killers. They had a three man security team, a two man smoke team, and a 4 man AT team with the demolition weapons. Makes perfect sense. Always thought that the game's Tank Hunter teams were usually useless. Now one can see how the AT tactics were supposed to work. Also, interesting to find out that Panzershrek used to mean "Fear of Tanks" and took on the opposite meaning later in the war. Love the German accent and good sense of humor of the narrator. Actually have been watching more of his videos and find them fascinating and would be very useful to anyone interested in how small units functioned. Eg:
  14. Saw "12 Strong" movie the other day. Not the greatest war movie ever made, but not bad. Very interesting visuals of Afghanistan-type terrain and lots of beat -up Soviet T-whatevers and BPM's etc. Tells the story of the first 12 man spec ops team after 9-11 sent into the hinterlands to help the "Northern Alliance" fight the Taliban. Maybe inspirational for a designer to do some CMA scenarios or a campaign. Also CMSF2 if you change the storyline a little.
  15. It could be that us oldsters having gotten used to one way of doing thing, then learning a new way... now it's different again - well something about teaching an old dog new tricks. FWIW: I absolutely detest being forced to learn a new OS (Win 10) when I spent ages learning Win7 after Win XP after Win 98 etc etc etc... and Win 10 does nothing for me that Win 7 already does very well.
  16. BTW: Saw "12 Strong" movie the other day. Not the greatest war movie ever made, but not bad. Very interesting visuals of Afghanistan terrain and lots of beat -up Soviet T-whatevers and BPM's etc. Tells the story of the first 12 man spec ops team sent into the hinterlands to help the "Northern Alliance" fight the Taliban. Maybe inspirational for a designer to do some CMA scenarios or a campaign. Also CMSF2 if you change the storyline a little. Actually I'll repost in CMA forum.
  17. Once upon a time, you had to have the original disk in the slot.
  18. What I am very happy about is that BF assures us that the CMSF mods (along with the scenarios - and even more importantly the numerous xnt campaigns) will work in CMSF2.
  19. Hopefully you also feel that cos anything is old doesn't mean it's useless.
  20. It is possible that amongst the mods for CMSF there is a Woodland camo - but almost certainly for the US. I doubt anyone made one for the German troops. If it's similar one could rename the US camo to appear on the Germans. Of course one still has to find the damn thing! Ah... I probably have every CMSF mod ever made and found "Marine SOF Woodland MARPAT". It includes helmet, molle, uniform, vest and a bunch of skins. If you are interested in looking at that, send me PM with your e-mail... PS: There is also a large number of "SYROPE" mod sets that may have additional mods than found in Euroscape. Also: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=select&id=26&orderby=1&page=1 shows a couple "Woodland" mods.
  21. While that is a reasonable POV, one has to realize that nations do not tip their hand by deploying all their capabilities unless they really have to. For example, maybe the west has the capability of destroying ICBM's on launch using all sorts of new fun things orbiting in space. However, we won't use that capability to shoot down (say) N. Korean test launches as we don't want to show an enemy what our capabilities are. When an airport goes down, or a region gets blacked out, or a Credit Agency loses all its customers' personal details, we really have no idea if it was the work of a hacker, or genuine stupidity as no authority is going to say, "Gee we really got screwed by that cyberwar/hack/whatever". But those were scenarios that were being posited a couple decades ago. History over the last century unfortunately has shown that societies are never prepared for the next war. Sincerely hope we never find out...
  22. Gen L is correct in the way LOS works. The challenge is that no matter what the height, you cannot control what posture your inf will have. They will see more LOS when walking upright, but that doesn't help you since they will automatically kneel or take cover at the waypoint - so suddenly the unit will not have the LOS you thought they would. Even more strange is the situation with vehicles. They should always be at the same height, right? But, often a vehicular waypoint will show LOS to a target... Wonderful. But when the vehicle gets to that waypoint - it has no LOS to the target. Frustrating. Walking the battlefield and viewing everything from level one is a lot of fun and one can fully enjoy the graphics etc. However, beware that one doesn't get WYSIWYG. It is common to be unable to see through a forest, but the computer AI can and will find a 1 pixel gap and shoot through dozens of meters of woods to kill you. The good news is that your units benefit from the same AI and your guys are just as able to shoot through what looks to the human eye as "impossible to get" LOS terrain and kill an enemy. In addition, one would think that if someone can see you, you can see them. But not so in CM2. Eg: In a game am playing right now have experienced many situations where an enemy can shoot at my guys, but my guys cannot see or shoot at the enemy. One often finds those anomalies in urban maps: One can see a nearby house that is in plain view with no intervening obstructions but there is no LOS to TARGET that house. That's why it's sometimes puzzling why CM2 offers one the opportunity to check LOS at every waypoint, when that can be very misleading. It's the sort of feature that hopefully will be addressed/improved in CM3. Also JP: Unless it is the initial set-up turn (or one has drones which are currently only available in CMBS) one cannot issue target order to artillery OR aircraft unless a spotter has LOS to the target or area. Hope that is useful, mate. CM2 has a steep learning curve. But, this is such a rewarding game when you get experienced.
